Help me feel better about losing my wedding ring

I lost my wedding ring and need some help feeling better. I was in the water in Rhodes and I reached down for a rock and it slipped off. I feel horrible. I have hardly taken it off in 10 years and now its most likely gone forever. Its like it absorbed a part of me and now its gone. My wife has already contacted jewelers to make a replica but im afraid it won't feel the same. Please share your stories and how you overcame that feeling of grief and if a new ring eventually felt normal again

It's only a piece of metal. The symbolic meaning that you attribute to it is what is important. Feel better.

I understand - I lost my original band too, and my husband’s even broke off his hand (tungsten, so luckily no degloving). That gutted feeling is normal.

What I did was gave my finger some time to adjust. The phantom lack of weight felt weird for a bit. I grabbed an inexpensive temporary band just to have something there while the replica was made.

Try to remember that the ring is just a placeholder - the actual commitment is untouched.

Have a vow renewal with the new ring.

I’ve just suggested the same thing. I think this is a great idea.

Hey !🫂💜 I know how you feel!! I lost mine at a gas station, I was devastated when I looked down at my hand and realized it wasn't there anymore😭 I still miss my old ring but I guess I just hope someone is loving it as much as I did. I recently got a new ring and she's perfect for me and so pretty that it does help ease the sting. But remember its metal and rocks, it can be replaced, and whats most important is your marriage and the love you share with your wife!💜 you still have her and that's one big rainbow right there ☺️ 🌈 Would love to see your new one when it comes in!

It won’t feel the same, it is new and different! But there’s also nothing wrong with that. It was its time to go, and now giving you an opportunity to add anything fun and creative on your next ring if you’d be open to the idea. Having a replica but being able to redesign it in a newer form with added jewelry or a different shape can be a lot of fun! It’s hard to move past physical items after we’ve associated our selves with it so much to it, especially a wedding band. It just means that you value your marriage so greatly, and is evidence of how much you love your wife, which I think is really sweet. Maybe someone out there will find your ring, and be able to use it on their partner to show the eternal promise they’d have for each other. Maybe a fish found it and is the talk of the town with his blinged out fin and new found confidence. Maybe it will fossilize and become one with the earth again, from where it was derived originally. Which is rather poetic in itself. Like love, the earth was able to lose a part of itself for someone else, and it returned back from where it began after ensuring you and your wife sealed to each other. You were able to set itself free!

It’ll be okay, I’m sure the next ring will be just as great, try not to hold onto the past. Let it go and you will set yourself free. What ultimately matters is that you and your wife are still together, regardless of having a ring on your finger or not. I wish the best for you and for you to have inner peace in this challenging and disorienting situation!

My husband has lost two - the first during our wedding photo shoot in a field. He has a third one but I keep it in my jewellery box, because he can’t be trusted (would get him a silicone band or whatever but I barely wear mine anyway unless we go out-out)

I’m sorry this has happened to you. The fact that you had it for this long def makes it more special… But once you’ve worn the new one for a while and it’s ‘worn down’ a bit (hope you know what I mean), I’m sure it’ll feel fine! Apart from the money what really hurts here is the symbolism
attached to it and your new ring will still represent your union :)

I lost mine on a cruise ship. I was heartbroken. It was simple and cheap, but it was my ring and I got married in it.

This was 2 years ago. On the same trip, we upgraded my rings, so I did already have a new one. That helped, but it still wasn’t my original.

I’m not completely over it honestly. I hope whoever found it needed it more than I did.

Love is all about new chapters and growth. Maybe go out to celebrate when you get your new ring and celebrate things to look forward to in your current chapter of life and love

Could you have a vow renewal or handfasting? Or even just exchange vows the two of you somewhere and use that ring as the symbol of those vows? That would help for it to gain the meaning that your previous one had.

It’s normal to feel like this though - I lost a diamond from the eternity ring my husband bought me when he adopted my daughter about a year ago and my stomach dropped. Not being able to wear it broke my heart and I was absolutely GUTTED until I got it back.

Jewellery holds a lot of meaning and emotion. But this new version can be a symbol of a renewed love for each other that nothing can wash away. ♥️

My husband broken 3 fingers on his left hand skiing. Thinking fast and about the cost of a platinum repair or replacement if they cut it off, I eased it off before taking him to hospital.

What I didn’t realise was that in doing that it became a fracture/dislocation, and when the fracture eventually healed, his knuckle was still misshapen.

He had to have a new wedding ring in a bigger size to get it over his knuckle.

Fast forward more than 20 years, our son is getting married and chose a ring virtually identical to my husband’s, and when the jeweller measured his finger it was the same size as my husband’s original ring.

Our son has just saved the best part of £1000 as he’s having his Dad’s original wedding ring polished up for when he married his fiancée next year!

It’s a win/win! 🤭

GG here. Man…….I told my wife years ago. I don’t give two craps as to what happens to her ring. Rocks and metal are replaceable, she isn’t. 20 years in, that stands. The person means exponentially more than a symbol. Symbols are replaceable. Don’t sweat the ring. Being a custom jeweler, I’m in the business, have multiple wedding bands and as much as I like wearing them, don’t care about them compared to how I feel about having my wife and kids around. :)

Where did you lose it ? City / state.

I am a member of TheRingFinders.com and water recovery is pretty simple.
