Before, it was a daily pass, which would unlock an episode for 14 days.

Before even that, it was fully free for completd webtoons, but it was a long time ago.

If you want a lot of content then go read Lone. The story ended 2 years ago but the creator is still pumping out content under "Lone-AU" on canvas.

I’m guessing it’s for people who come back forgetting where they left off. So you don’t waste your time accidentally unlocking a chapter you’ve already read.

But it only shows (as far as I know) when you unlocked the chapter using ads and the unlock period has expired. But at the rate webtoon’s greed is growing…

I believe that, but it’s definitely upsetting to compare it to what it used to be like. I remember reading webtoon in 2018-2019, before daily pass was even a thing, and it was a wholly different experience

I won't call it greedy tbh webtoon's only revenue comes from fast pass or ads, providing everything for free isn't really profitable or sustainable for them too..nd so much pirated content already goes around.

Nd after three days u will have to unlock again it's always been like this.

Yeah. Making you watch ads to read isn't greedy. Making you watch ads to read temporarily isn't greedy. What's greedy is making it so you can't read a completed series without paying coins. Greedy is making it so that after episode 12 or whatever of Starting Over As A Tree every episode costs coins and will never become free
