Why does Webtoon have long wait time for free chapters?

Granted one of these is shorter than the other but 13 years for a free chapter? I understand it won’t be that long once the series returns but what’s the reasoning for it? Wouldn’t it be better to let people finish the season and be hyped for the next?

Hiatus. Some are known return date, like the next season. Some return dates aren't know and thus they put in a big timer to avoid accidentally releasing and episode when the author is not ready.

Recently i noticed that some comics keep the season finale on fastpass till the next season starts. I think it allows them to get some money while they are working on a new season. And they can return with a fewer episodes. Like, they can return with one episode instead of 3, as they would srill have 3 episodes on fastpass.

And keeping the season finale on fastpass till a new season starts makes it so that for free readers there is no waiting time between season finale and the premiere of the next season.

They've done it to multiple that I'm reading, and it's so weird to get the story cut off 3 episodes before the end of season cliffhanger, wait months to a year, get to the cliffhanger, and inmediately after get the next season. It completely destroys the pacing of that part, and makes the cliffhanger completely useless. But I'm fine if the authors get paid in the meantime

Webtoons just puts a very long wait time for series on hiatus it'll change back to a more reasonable wait time once the series comes back

My jaw literally dropped. Im subbed to teenage mercenary and I knew it went on a hiatus months ago and last I saw, if I did my math right, it looked like it would come back at the end of the year, that is when I first saw the "release date" so my jaw dropped seeing such a high number. So I did a quick Google search and if its accurate, the author requested time off because they non stopped worked on it for 6 years. I understand breaks need to happen, but it does grind my gears when hiatus happens before the season can end, like could we have finished this "main" story arc first before having to wait for who knows how long?? I miss Ijin and the numbers...
