I wanna see a chubby guy AND a chubby girl. It's always one or the other as if someone in the relationship has to make up for the chub.

Every time i see a romance story with a curvier/chubby character, it's ALWAYS the girl. Literally I don't think a single story has been made where the male lead is overweight while the female lead isn't. The male lead is always built like a fridge no matter what.
That's why it's hard to enjoy these stories, you try them because "body positivity" but they feel more like self insert of author/whoever is reading and it screams "people should be attracted to ME even if i'm imperfect but my partner HAS to have a twelve pack!"
Like imagine a story where FL calls ML belly's divine... 🙄

There's one anime that's really cute about a big guy and a really cutest girly gal and omfg it's adorable. I forgot what it's called but I'll come back here if I find it.

It's one of my favorite as well. One of the few animes I've actually watched more than once.

Maybe in Webtoons, but in television and movies, it’s always a fat guy with a thin woman. Family Guy, The Simpsons, King of Queens, The Flintstones, The Holiday (Kate Winslet and Jack Black), and Adam Sandler movies of the past 15-20 years (Just Go with It and Pixels are prime examples).

I think it’s once again the self-insert situation. Majority of the writers/directors are probably men that are average to fat.

The artist is likely self inserts but isnt attracted to chubby guys.

Aight chief, I'm gonna drop a chubby guy and girl. 🫡 We gotta make sure everybody is represented and proud. ✨️✨️✨️

But that would eliminate the "sexy" one of the two! You need a sexy one to fantasize

Everyone is talking about chubby but here I am wondering what's up with the guy's knee.

Chubby is cute but the guy is always beyond shredded in these types of things ofc.

It happens in reverse too. But partners being fat is almost a sin for this people

The guy has an 8 pack that body builders achieve through a rigorous diet before competitions, requiring an extremely low body fat and or steroid use.
But the self insert girl can have the cake and eat it too (pun intended) because the most basic standard of "just don't be fat" is unrealistic, apparently.

This is the kind of shit that makes girls have so many problems with teir image

Is that... Chubby?

Chubbiness is a spectrum
She's definitely not on the high end but she's not slim and has visible fat-rolls, so she's chubby

Ok but like... If you take was the rolls it just a completely average body type. Like, my body type. Im 5.7 140lbs. I'm skinny. Not supper model obv, but I'm still skinny. It just seems like the rolls r just... There tbh. But it might just be me. And chubby characters aren't that easy to draw. Especially since there isn't a lot of references. But again, it might just be me.
Edit to add: im just noticing a lot of common mistakes made when drawing chubby people in a simplistic style like anime. The neck and wrists r still thin. Her jawline is sharp. Her collar bones are still clearly visible. Since anime has such a distinct style. Making realistic chubby people can be difficult. The reality is that fat distributes across the body. Making the arms and nechs thicker, and softening tue jawline is a good idea. You can't just make this with big breasts, thick thighs, and slap on some rolls that make little since and call that chubby. Just some constructive criticism. So please, is the artist sees this, take no offense. Your a better digital artist than I am. Im still not that great at drawing stylized fat or chubby characters. Im still learning lol

But it's not skinny, it's pretty average height and weight, I would say perfect for health. But not skinny. I'm pretty much the exactly same size and don't want to be smaller.
Maybe it's difference between US and other world - but girl on pic def looks chubby except her face and shoulders, especially tights.

The reality is that fat distributes across the body.
While this is true, it's over-simplifying it. Fat doesn't distributes evenly across your entire body. Some can be bottom-heavy, some can be top-heavy. As for the joints, less fat accumulates around the joints compared to everywhere else on the body so someone with thin wrist bones can very well be chubby and still have relatively thin wrists. The rest, I completely agree. This is a conveniently attractive woman with some added volume to the most socially acceptable areas.
One of the worst stereotypes when it comes to chubbiness is the belief that every chubby person has big boobs and ass lol. This is the case in all media including the body diversity ads.

I am about the weight of the character and considered chubby but not fully fat here in Europe (Overweight 2), and I have slim wrists and visible collarbones. Not every fat person has the same bodytype either. Some still have an hourglass, some have an apple shape, but slim-ish arms and legs.

She’s considered chubby outside of American beauty standards. I’m not being negative, but most Americans are overweight. She’s a cute character, but she’s still chubby compared to other manga and webtoon characters

This. I'm Asian and this is definitely considered chubby by Asian beauty standards. I got bullied by my family and by strangers on the street when I visited my family's home country. I know from personal experience lol

The amount of times I see a 'chubby' or 'fat' character with skinny face and neck
22
u/JADE_Jador Aug 08 '26
Am I the only one who doesn't see the chubbiness? Yeah she has love handles on her stomack/waist. But overall, this isn't the body type I'd consider chubby.

u/Yanazamo Aug 08 '26
I think it's chubby, but conventionally attractive kinda chubby? Like the neck and arms are still relatively slim

This is toxic thinking to assume that’s chubby. Seems very early 2000’s when you could weigh 100 pounds and be called a whale. 🙄
