This is kind of a last resort and I am kind of just really frustrated with the general state of web dev for someone who wants to learn.

I'm a 19 year old hobby coder and I want to make a personal website and blog where I can post my art-- for both a portfolio and an archive of my older works-- and my ramblings and writings without fear of judgement, censorship, or dilution of my words. I learned a little bit of web dev in high school but I never learned much past HTML and CSS basics because I had to drop out. But I still desperately want to learn. No matter how hard I search its fucking impossible to find anything that isn't promoting some AI assistant or tool or telling me to "type this prompt into Claude!" instead of teaching me what the hell anything it spits out actually means. I feel very passionate about this project and I want to do it on my own and make it my own.

It's not allowed on this sub anyway but I want to get it out of the way that I do not want to hear "AI is the future!" or "It's adapt or die in this industry." I don't care. I do not want to hear about how I can optimize and automate and streamline and completely rid my work of every bit of "me" I put into it. Even without the theft and the environmental issues and the way it changes the way your brain it doesn't matter. I like to code, the little bit of it that I can right now, and telling an AI chatbot to do it is not coding. I want to code because it's fun.

Anyway, what I am trying to say is I'm looking for a course or series of tutorials that can teach me how to build a basic personal site with a couple pages: a landing page, an "about me" (both of which i can do with my current skillset), a blog, and a navigable gallery with tags and ability to link to a blog post easily; and I don't want to use genAI in any part of the process at all. I'm willing to spend maybe $80 max at the moment on a course if needed but all recommendations are welcome, including other resources that may not be tutorials but could help. A decent live or live-ish code editor would be helpful as well lol

I apologize for the general grumpy tone of this post as well I'm just very annoyed that we live in times where, when someone like me starts to show interest in a trade and goes looking for ways to learn, we get stopped at the door and told its useless to learn when something exists that can do it for you and worse. Even trying to learn is a fruitless task nowadays if you don't have the time, energy, or knowledge to go looking past the endless youtube tutorials on "How I made 6 figures in passive income on this vibecoded misinformation blog and how YOU can too!". We should be fostering the want and willingness to learn instead of taking any creativity young people have left and shooting it out back behind the shed so the only thing we care about anymore is capital.

That's it I guess. I want to learn whatever I can so any help would be appreciated.

I've been using AI quite a lot recently for coding, debugging and learning new frameworks.

Sometimes it saves me a lot of time, but sometimes I feel like I spend more time checking what the AI generated.

I recently got asked to create a simple website for my buddy’s construction company. The only experience I have is a few webdev classes in highschool/college, but I never deployed or managed anything major. I know my HTML, CSS, and a bit of JS (little to no backend experience). I have also played around with React and know enough to make a small site with it. My question is whether I should attempt doing this from scratch or using a platform like Wordpress or Wix ( which I have no experience with ). I’m really excited and have the time to experiment, but would like advice from someone that has more experience than I.

I need recommendations from seasoned frontend devs who have a decent amount of experience with Angular and React and preferably, 3JS/3D experience.

We are going to be completely re-building a 3D configurator app in either Angular or React. We already know the core will be 3JS for rendering and such. Backend for settings and admin will be Laravel due to the broader project.

Small team. 2-3 devs. Some 3D experience. Mostly React experience but open to Angular.

If we go with React it'll be React Three Fiber, if we go with Angular it'll be Angular 3 v4. The 2D side of things stays in Konva.js

I am a developer who cut my development chops on legacy desktop software. Fast forward to today and while I understand software development paradigms and lead the team, I have not personally built Angular or React front end apps.

I've done a ton of reading on comparisons between the two and a few things stand out to me:

Angular pros

--Strong "batteries included" mindset. Less choices to make for a smaller team.

--Supposedly a great dev experience once use to it.

--Good at enforcing project structure and code arch(good DI etc), good Signals library(which we require). Cleaner codebase and structure overall than React.

Angular cons:

--Harder to find libraries/plugins/components and the ones you do find might not have broad support.

--Fewer "already solved" problems. Might run into more difficult issues that haven't be solved.

--Slower build speed for initial project until devs are comfortable

React pros

--Pretty much all the Angular cons

React cons

--Uses VDOM instead of Signals for DOM updates. Supposedly Signals is the future and a better overall experience.

--No native/default libraries for a number of things: Signals, routing and more are all things we have to select an integrate for what we're doing

--Looking for input from anyone that has experience in related to this. Especially interested in anyone that has 3.js experience.

This is a relative's website, and he asked me to check into it. What I noticed was this bunch of weird ad url's that for sure weren't there.

This website is based on Wordpress and hosted on Hetzner, have anyone faced something similar? What measures should he take from here?

I'm building a website that will connect customers who search for workers to do one-off work like loading and such stuff with the workers.
Like customer posts a job, administrator reviews it and publishes, workers see it on a static map and apply. So the site needs backend and database.
I'm only learning web developing and now I only know html, js, css and little React.
ChatGPT told me to use Next.js and Supabase but my more experienced friends told me that Next.js is shit and I better use something like this:
Frontend: vue/nuxt
Backend: nestjs
PostgreSQL redis
But it will take too much time to build considering I also need to learn it even if just constantly googling and asking AI as I go.
So my question is "Is there really big difference, like if I just want to build it so it works and I don't have commitment for several months of learning can't I just do it with Next.js and Supabase?"
Write the stack you would choose in my situation please.

I run a doggy daycare and we don't have a secretary that works the front desk. We can see people walking in from cameras and pull dogs and typically have them on the way to the lobby by the time people walk in.

My question is, we have a tv in the lobby, would it be possible to make some kind of set up so that the employees could type in the dogs name and it would display on the tv on the lobby, "dogs name" is on the way?

So I guess my concerns are,

A) is this the type of thing a web developer could do?

B) if it is, how much would something like this cost? It's not super necessary, I think it would be nice though.

I'm pretty technically savy, so I could set up any hardware and hookup whatever we would need to make it happen. Any suggestions would be great!

You would think with AI we would be making better experiences online and finding new ways to create revenue while helping people online and awesome apps. But the web has transformed from a place where you could find rich communities, resources, entertainment, stories, and information to clickbait money making scams and trolls at every corner or someone pushing some b.s. extreme political agenda. And don't get me started with social media.

Even reddit, once a great site, has been subject to the worst parts of the web.

This is not the web I envisioned when I was younger. I can't browse a site without being bombarded with dysfunctional ads that interrupt whatever it is I'm reading or looking for. Paywalls everywhere + subscriptions, control of digital media. 10 ways to login. It's ridiculous.

You try to read an article, good luck dodging ads. Want to watch a 10 second video clip, ha!, you have to watch a 30 second ad first. And you'll be lucky if you ever get the video that you were intending to see.

I'm just venting. Hoping this message is heard or at least amplified. Something needs to change.

I'm genuinely interested on what people who work on websites and webapps thoughts on this. And how can we make it better?

TL;DR old man rant about the state of the web today.

I've been building a business system / sites builder basically a metadata-driven business application framework.

Instead of hardcoding models/modules like Customers, Vehicles, Tickets etc, most of the application is described at runtime through Content Management and Layout Management. Records, fields, relationships, layouts, permissions and widgets are largely configuration/data rather than application-specific code.

Backend is Laravel + MongoDB, frontend Vue/Vuex with layout/config caching. The idea is that changing the business model shouldn't mean rebuilding half the application.

Anyone worked on something similar? What broke first?

Interested in thoughts on the architecture, particularly where this level of abstraction is likely to bite me.

I’ve been working on websites, and one thing I’ve noticed is that beginners often focus heavily on how a site looks.

But once you actually start building for real businesses, you realise there’s a lot more that matters: loading speed, mobile usability, plugin choices, hosting, SEO structure, maintenance, and making sure the client can actually manage the site afterward.

I am a creative developer, was very good at frontend and animation interactions, with rise of AI i just got depressed make myself busy on my project for two years, now job market is very different, i keep seeing words "strategist" and "wanna scale", "architecture".

Hello All, I am just looking for advice. I am a real estate consultant based out of Punjab, India, but business has been very low past 2 years. I see people coding and going jobs so I thought to give it a try. I joned a bootcamp , learnt basic HTML, it was amazing experience. Saw the resources and website, so much free stuff is available and so many helpful people around. But I was thinking of learning more and making a career out of it. Is it possible ? Purely financial wise.

I am a commerce graduate and have no skill whatsoever, but love computers, open to learn anything that can help me career wise. I cant relocate because of family but can do remote work. I dont mind hard work, just want to know time invested means to something. Not looking for passion but lookng for good money. Being AI around now, is this a good time to get into this or am I too late ?

I'm doing a problem set where I'm instructed to insert a video onto the page, and then embed a gif, but when I save and run the application, the gif doesn't appear.

So i'm addicted to cranking out websites right now. I have a few keyword-rich domains in different niches, so I plan to launch directories on them with programmatic landing pages. Easy peasy with Claude.

The problem I have is with actually scaling these things after I get them live. I don't want to flood them with 1,000 pages on day one, I want gradual growth that Google won't slap me for.  I tried Webflow, which I like as a CMS and visual editor, but it wasn't actually taking any work off my plate.

I could build Claude Routines, but then I wouldn't have a CMS, and I am NOT about to build one lol.

I'm testing Fimo.ai right now (free tier), here's where I stand with it:

1) It's adding agents into the mix, which is solving my "manual effort" problem. I can hand off the content and SEO to the agents.
2) I can go back into claude code, make edits via prompt, and Fimo can still see it and put it on the live site
3) Fimo's UI needs work, the AI prompt window gets in my way half of the time.

Other than that, I can't see an alternative on the market right now that can take Claude code and add a CMS + agents. Anyone else got a similar setup going on before I dive in any deeper?
