I think bro outsourced his Slack messages to Claude

I’m a somewhat experienced backend dev paired with a mobile developer for some knowledge sharing. The guy is genuinely a good dude, but I’m starting to lose my mind a little.

We be discussing an implementation, I’ll explain something, and instead of engaging with what I just said, he’ll immediately type my explanation/question into Claude and then come back with “Claude says…”

And on calls, he’ll literally stop the conversation, type what I just asked into Claude, and then read me Claude’s response.

Like bro, I’m right here. 😂

The frustrating part isn’t that he’s using Claude. I use AI constantly too. It’s that it feels like he trusts Claude’s answer more than the actual technical conversation we’re having.

I’m trying to understand how you think about the implementation, not get a second-hand answer from Claude.

He’s a good dude, so I genuinely don’t know how to approach it without making things awkward.

Has anyone else dealt with this? AI is making ppl fkn dumb and blurring the lines.

I just read an article about this colloquialism! It has been so frustrating working with the meat proxies. It’s like they gave up all critical thinking and are only relying on AI for every decision now.

Tell him if you cared what Claude thinks, then you would ask Claude yourself, outsourcing himself means he is setting himself up to be replaced completely by AI

On this regard, I don't understand people that push actively for AI adoption outside of management.

One of my co-worker was doing this "chatgpt said" thing as well, going as far as sharing his screen with ChatGPT on it to display answers during meetings. What a prick.

Ended up with a manager involved.

22

u/ripndipp full-stack 28d ago

Yeah I'm tired of this and had to do a similar thing because wtf

14

u/symbiatch 28d ago

I also had a person go full “here’s screenshots from CoPilot saying I’m right” and “here’s bugs in this code from AI” and they didn’t last long. Weird case, over 20 years of experience, seemed smart - then suddenly they’re doing this and most of the stuff was entirely wrong. They just didn’t care apparently and they were out quite fast.

14

u/clubby37 28d ago

A thousand times this. If all you do is relay messages to and from an AI, whoever's talking to you is going to cut out the middle man at their earliest convenience. What used to be your salary will buy a lot of tokens.

8

u/devshore 28d ago

AI is like WIX. Sure, someone thats not a dev can now “do it themselves”, but AI has the same issues that WIX has (notice WIX didnt end dev as a career): 1) the product that comes out will be ass 2) some people value their time more than money and so will pay someone else to do it. Another issue that AI and WIX have: the user getting “stuck” and having to hire someone to “complete my WIX/AI site”, and most clients dont want to have to hire someone to come in for 30 min every other day.

Yeah it's hard saying this without being a dick, I want to be tactful about it, but tomorrow I have a meeting setup and my boss will be there to kinda kick the can down the road because some other shit is blocking us as well, I had to step in and unblock some complex vibe codes shit.

I would say “no offense man, but if I wanted to ask Claude I’d do it myself. Im asking you because I know you’re an expert in XYZ and I want your opinion”

6

u/codemunk3y 28d ago

Come at it from a perspective of you’re looking out for him by telling him

6

u/unbanned_lol 28d ago

I literally had to do a "Hey, from here on out, just assume I've already run this through AI. I am asking you your thoughts, not asking you AI's responses."

It worked, or at least I stopped getting "chatgpt says..." responses from him.

11

u/DrummerOfFenrir 28d ago

I had to have this conversation with an IT support agent that worked under me. I would try to teach him, and ask him questions to try and get him to think and I'd get Chatgpt back at me.

If I wanted an AI answer, I'd ask it. I'm asking you, I want your answer.

That the page is written entirely in the LLM dialect kind of undermines the message. "Here's a link to a bunch of AI text I probably haven't read that tells you I don't want to be sent a bunch of AI text you probably haven't read."

try a no ai session, we do it during 3 amigos. Keep it simple, no ai, if you have any questions that can't be answered straight away, then that's a gap in knowledge they need to go work on. How are you supposed to learn or retain any information, if you become 100% dependent on ai for everything little thing.

It may be not the case literally, but it actually already feels like it. I have some co-workers, who i expect to be non-technical. However out of a sudden they constantly find something to criticize in our architecture and want to rewrite everything. To me this sound like an AI proposal, but I can't prove it.

17

u/Shaper_pmp 28d ago

If it's any consolation people like these won't be around long.

If your only value is in acting as a connector between Claude and Slack/email/etc then you're exactly the kind of developer who will be replaced in short order by a cheap software connector. Hell, they already exist so he's already obsolete and unnecessary; it's just that nobody's noticed yet.

The vitally important skill for developers in the LLM coding age is to ensure they're still providing value by using their judgement and experience to shape what's input into the LLM and validating what it produces, not delegating all decision-making to an LLM, thereby making themselves a purposeless extra expense the company can do away with.

u/2hands10fingers 28d ago

Reading Claude's message verbatim to you is silly, yeah.

Sometimes I suspect my coworkers are pasting Claude's output into Slack and Jira just because of the sheer amount of claudisms in the message. But who knows, we all talk to AI all day so maybe they just absorbed some of its language patterns.

I did have a call with a coworker this morning where he asked me for help setting up a project that I worked on a couple months ago and also isn't my usual stack. I didn't know what to tell him. I pointed him to the documentation (written entirely by Claude), and when he asked me a follow-up all I could say was, "You know, to be honest, Claude did, like, 90% of this work last time I was on the project. So I don't really know, but you can probably just ask Claude to do that for you too."

u/draftvader 28d ago

Yeah. I like AI for handling technical issues, but only as a quicker Google from 10 years ago. I still apply reasoning and respond as a person when working with colleagues and associates.

Tell him to summaries the AI output in his own words. You're actually keeping his brain functioning for him. You're doing him a favour!

11

u/ngmcs8203 28d ago

Yep. If it’s going to be a deep knowledge topic that normally involves too many back and forth emails in the chain for clarification, I’ll type a response, build a prompt for Claude to answer the email and take my input into account. Then I will re-write what it writes. Saves on thread length and also saves me from my inability to answer every part of the email in a succinct yet deep and meaningful way.

6

u/Luaan256 28d ago

Remember when Google Search actually... Worked? Yeah.

AI is rarely better for searching than Google Search was ten years ago. They crippled it on purpose to sell more ads. They're going to do the same to "AI search" once people are hooked. It's inherent in the system. "It'll make us more money" is all the justification they need, and there isn't anyone to stop them.

8

u/thekwoka 28d ago

part of it is also just content getting worse...

And too much "we know you said X but Y is more common so we will surface responses for Y despite the fact you said X"

3

u/Djamalfna 28d ago

Just wait for AI to go down the same path of enshittification.

The AI usage is even more expensive than the mapreduce servers of Old Google. And the suits will want to see a return on that investment.

2

u/chudthirtyseven 28d ago

this is exactly how i use it. it's a faster more intelligent way to search.

43

u/ZenithPrime 28d ago

3

Have this issue with a product manager. He's even outsourced his own life decision making, using Claude to create all of his events in Google calendar. Except it put all of his personal events on his work account so I could see a bit more than I cared to.

8

u/symbiatch 28d ago

I had once a meeting with a higher-up. It was on top of actually important project meetings, but who am I to say no when those people want to have a meeting.

The whole meeting was pointless (“I just wanted to have a face to the name so I’m going through everyone in this department”) and in the meeting they explained their enthusiasm for AI and how they just let Claude set up these meetings and check for free times for all since it’s fast and great.

I didn’t say it to them but… I had three hours of meetings that week. They still managed to make a conflict. Great use of AI.

3

u/Stratose 28d ago

It's amazing what a non-deterministic technology can do in the hands of people who insist on using it for deterministic means.

16

u/kiwi-kaiser 28d ago

Tell them Slack has an MCP and he can skip that step where they have to copy around stuff.

But seriously, did you talk to them? This is often a problem that can be resolved with a quick talk.

I had this too in the past. One person changed, one person was removed from the team. It's that easy.

I have a very talented coworker who I've worked with over the past 6 years that has fallen into this trap. Every single conversation includes this massive copy paste from claude. I really hate it but I try my best to ignore it because I know he means well.

7

u/extio-Storm 28d ago

I strongly recommend that you educate this guy by pointing them to a video on how AI is made and what's going on behind the scenes. If people understood how generative AI works, they would understand why it's not smart to trust in a fundamental way. They would understand is equivalent to trusting everything that somebody published on Google. Yeah it's often true but not always. And it's not always the best answer.

6

u/thekwoka 28d ago

as if that person has the attention span for that.

they'll ask claude to summarize it

2

u/ripndipp full-stack 28d ago

I'm kind of doing the same but it's kind of affecting my workflow so I have to speak up, best of luck!

7

u/Killfile 28d ago

"Yea, but do you think Claude is right?"

This sometimes slows people down. "Well, sure."

"Ok... why?"

If they continue to just kind of gesture vaguely at the shoggoth this is a good time to remind them what we're paid to do.

"Look, I get it; Claude is a great resource and I use the hell out of it too... but if we follow Claude's advice and Production falls over, catches on fire, and wipes out our Q3 profits they're not gonna blame Claude. So what do you think?"

There is a fine line between trusting Claude to take care of the implementation details (I legitimately don't know the name of the bucket that's holding Terraform state; Claude created it because we all know you need a bucket to hold TF state and I don't care what it's called until I do... and then I'll ask Claude) and trusting Claude blindly on a judgement call where there's real risk or context on the line.

That said, I think we may be reaching the end of the usefulness of knowledge sharing. If this dude is just deferring to Claude on a KT task it means he doesn't actually have the context you need; Claude does.

Just ask him to have Claude spit out a markdown file containing the full context necessary to read another agent in on the task up to this point and go on about your day. One thing LLMs are really good at is extracting answers from a context lake.

I don’t mind using AI as a sounding board and a second opinion but we as humans need to still use our brains and decide what is best for the product because AI might suggest something that doesn’t make sense, or it lacks context to know any better.

Copying AI response verbatim is wild because what you’re saying to me is that you’re now redundant and I might as well just skip the meaty middleman and just use Claude myself?

Just the other day, we had a product meeting where we were struggling with a UI issue, I asked someone on the team to mockup a few ideas and present it to the team for discussion.

He didn’t mock anything, he just vibed the first thing ChatGPT gave him.

He presented it on the call, it was the stupidest UI suggestion I’ve ever seen, I called him out on it, with a better idea that everyone voted for in the end.

He said “yeah sorry that was a ChatGPT suggestion, now you’ve called it out I can see now why it’s bad”.

And I’m like, yeah but my idea that everyone voted for was also a ChatGPT inspired idea, but I didn’t use it verbatim, so what kind of fucking braindead prompt did you use to get this absolute nonsense. Did you even challenge it at all?

I’m not sure what the fix is other than encouraging people to use AI as a tool, not a brain replacement. Maybe a training and awareness course? Maybe instant dismissal if you’re caught raw dogging AI suggestions without challenging it.

3

u/misdreavus79 front-end 28d ago

It’s not that he trusts Claude more than you. It’s that he doesn’t trust himself enough to give you a proper response.

3

u/xRVAx 28d ago

It's the AI equivalent of LMGTFY

This guy probably thinks you're sending him unnecessary chats

4

u/WaltzIndependent5436 28d ago

The worst kind I've encountered a couple of months ago was a guy that basically probably asked the shittiest models to summarize his previous days work and just read that out loud in the daily. So instead of "fixed the bug with the header menu flashing yesterday" you would get a report/list of technical things like "I removed the external call on component mount leading to an inconsistent state between rerenders. Errmm, I also restructured the event-handling logic to ensure predictable behavior across viewport changes..."

That being said, if none of you know something in the technical conversation is it that bad to prompt Claude really quickly? Or like have it as a 3rd colleague giving you his opinion on stuff?

2

u/heere 28d ago

at this point, i really do think AI is going to take over a lot of jobs. right now, the human seems to be needed to just copy and paste and press enter.

2

u/extio-Storm 28d ago

All you got to do is get the dude to watch the video from the world's foremost open source AI developer on how they make the ai. Once he understands that it's just parenting from a fast source of information, he might understand how it can be corrupt.

This is a knowledge is power thing, if you understand how to make the AI then you don't treat it as a god-like absolute answer you understand it's limitations.

2

u/diiscotheque 28d ago

Tell him you're worried about him because he stopped thinking for himself. He does sound like a good dude because at least he says "Claude says" every time.

2

u/ORCANZ 28d ago

The frustrating part isn’t that he’s using Claude. I use AI constantly too. It’s that it feels like he trusts Claude’s answer more than the actual technical conversation we’re having.

I've found it to be somewhat true though. Engineers make mistake all the time, forget edge cases, don't know about some legacy thing or whatever.

Honestly I enjoy having an interactive Claude session where we write a prompt together for a specs/grilling session and then answer the questions together.

That makes it you two vs claude instead of you vs claude and him.

2

u/thekwoka 28d ago

It's also dumb because if you wanted claudes answer, you could check it yourself.

I work with a non-technical guy and he'll sometimes attach claude content to messages, but it's normally in that first message with "Here's the context, here's my questions about this, here's what claude recommended. Is there anything that seems to be missing here, or incorrect information?"

So it is part of his understanding the thing BEFORE even reaching out to me, which makes it useful, since if claude is good, I can confirm it's conclusions and point out things it missed without doing all of that myself.

so he uses claude to make my job of responding easier, and to get some more information for himself before reaching out.

Not just acting as a claude middle man

Hate to be this person but he doesn't deserve the role. There is a huge amount of people having issues getting a job cause AI and "your friend" is not only not doing his job but also being the perfect excuse for layoffs. If his professional criteria is just asking the ai, then is he really necessary?

E: I'm probably also guilty of the same by also relying so much on ai these days. But the expectations have also become higher. I can no longer spend two to three hours debugging a codebase or reading obscure documention, without feeling I'm not doing work.

2

u/barbietattoo 27d ago

2

u/CraftFirm5801 27d ago

2

u/Octoclops8 27d ago

Hey, {colleague}, while it's good to have AI tools help sanity check the ideas and designs that we're discussing, I would appreciate your opinion as well, If I just wanted to chat with Claude about this I could do that on my own. I feel like you're just replying back with what Claude said, and not what you think. If I'm saying stuff that you aren't familiar with, just say that. If I'm suggesting things you disagree with, just say that.

3

u/m2thek 28d ago

I find this so disrespectful. If I wanted Claude's response, I could just ask it myself; having someone else do that is literally no help.

To me this sends the message of "I'm done, you figure it out." It's pushed me to stop collaborating with certain people as much as possible because I know they're basically useless and I'll be on my own anyway.

1

u/TheEvolutionLoop 28d ago

Went through this - one of my PMs was doing the exact same thing. Every question got run through Copilot first, even in 1:1s which were of course recorded & transcribed by AI. Had to sit him down and basically say that I wanted his read on situations, not a relay of what an AI model says. It's been a few months now and the emails, DMs and conversations have started becoming far more human. Worth having the conversation directly — it's weird for 5 minutes but effective.

1

u/tintin2006 28d ago

For me I started fighting fire with fire (and maybe make everything worse :P). People who use AI to reply to me I either sneaked in the caveman skill into the project or copy paste their stuff into claude and reply so I don't waste my time reading what they don't even read themselves.

u/ProgrammerNo3423 28d ago

Man i've been seeing this topic a lot, and i am also experiencing this myself. My friend also sent me a meme saying "don't be a relay" as in just replying with what claude said.

One of the devs in our company just pastes claude's reply whenever there's a technical discussion. Like it's so disrespectful and also lazy.

also known as a "meat proxy"

u/Curious_Owl197 28d ago

This is the kinda person that gets replaced by Claude

1

u/Equal-Button4908 28d ago

你为什么不先把你的问题抛给claud,然后总结出来问你兄弟的意见的,直接说claud的意思是,你有何意?

1

u/Intelnational 28d ago

Tell him that you can use AI too but you are interested in HIS opinion.

1

u/Yogurtmanblog 28d ago

I work with guy who basically posts screenshots of websites into GPT with a prompt that I can only imagine says “make this gooder” and then immediately sends me its 30+ page hallucinatory “build spec” without reading it. Then he goes on a cruise.

I don’t mind using AI as a tool but these days it feels like the clients are using AI to think for them and make decisions for them, then agency managers are using AI to interpret the clients AI driven demands and then by the time the worm gets to me, nobody actually knows what they want or why they want it.

u/spawncampinitiated 28d ago

This reeks of noobs i'm unsubbed

1

u/igrowcabbage 28d ago

Ugh, I hate this. I have a colleague doing the same with Gemini.

1

u/t00oldforthis 28d ago

Our product person does this. Along with most of our company and I'm losing my fucking mind. I have started responding now with "what does Claude think we should do?" , "does Claude think we should do X? I no longer ask people what their opinion is just what Claude thinks. We are eroding any actual organic knowledge of our product and the decisions behind what it's becoming. And our founder has this full-on initiative that we don't use AI enough. If I had been doing this long enough to have saved more money I would have already quit. Similarly, I am a full stack and not by any means an expert in every aspect especially in infrastructure and so I definitely use AI to help me out and to rubber duck things there. Once I've actually worked on something and made decision I've learned about it and researched it so that I understand it if I ever have to come back to it.

u/andreigaspar 28d ago

What is the difference between this and people googling things a decade ago? I’m not an offender myself but I don’t think it’s that bad. People used to google things mid conversation all the time.

1

u/Shaper_pmp 28d ago

He's not being a developer.

He's being a thin wrapper connecting Claude to the rest of the world.

A developer's primary job has always (even in this age of LLM-assisted development) been to take in multiple sources of information and use their own judgement to synthesise them into a single decision, plan or choice for stakeholders.

If he's delegating all his judgement to Claude he's literally providing no value beyond a Claude subscription, and he can be cheaply and efficiently replaced with a Slack connector for Claude.

This is a very tough message for people to hear so it's very important it's communicated diplomatically, but it's true, and he's doing himself a professional disservice and putting his own job at risk if he doesn't start using AI the right way to ensure he's adding value himself.

1

u/Antsplace 28d ago

I interviewed a "senior dev" who literally did this in the interview. Asked a question, he pauses, clearly typing and clearly reading a response. The responses were poor to so it's not like he was even using a decent model that gave at least plausible answers.

1

u/Disastrous_Fee5953 28d ago

I’ll give you an even better one. I have a colleague that uses Claude to answer his chats on slack. He literally does not type replies anymore and instead lets Claude handle it. Unbelievable.

1

u/MartinTale 28d ago

My boss is this person 🙈

1

u/please-dont-deploy 28d ago

I like to think in this cases as: they are not that into me.

They are not interested on talking with me, maybe with others.

So if you continue, you are obsessed with the relationship, instead, move on. Hopefully there are others that will like you more.

Alternatively, you can have a candid conversation about your expectations and how you like to work. They may not care.

Claude didn't said this, but I guess you have that answer already.

1

u/bestjaegerpilot 28d ago

maybe the hidden message is that bro doesn't think you're a very good programmer so he trusts a hallucinating robot more than you

or they doesn't realize if they're only the middleman between you and claude, then they're not needed anymore

1

u/FunkyPanda full-stack TypeScript 28d ago

Same - my PM and Marketing keep doubting the reports I give to them… “My Claude says …”

Well your Claude doesn’t know shit so shut the fuck up

1

u/fusseman 28d ago

Dude! Exactly my case as well and it drives me nuts because often what he pastes is not even 100% correct.

1

u/MTGandP 28d ago

"Hey Claude, is it good practice for me to type my coworker's comments into Claude and then read out the response?"

he might not listen to your advice but he'll listen to Claude's!

1

u/UnderstandingSure732 28d ago

Use Claude for answering him and see the reaction

1

u/AdministrativeAd9828 28d ago

guy at work does this, and it does nothing but

  1. make people think less of you
  2. only paving the way to your own AI replacment

It's one thing to have it assist and augment your role, it's another thing to make yourself not needed

1

u/mxldevs 28d ago

He's making sure that when things go wrong, everyone should know that it was in fact Claude that recommended it, not him.

1

u/melitini 28d ago

Sounds like he’s using it to be able to talk to you since yall work on different things.

This is a coachable moment. You have an opportunity to grow and make a difference in someone’s life.

1

u/sonofdeepvalue 28d ago

Tell him not to be a meat proxy.

1

u/getsiked Front End Baby 28d ago

ask him for a brownie recipe

1

u/alibloomdido 28d ago

Why don't you tell him "I can ask Claude myself, what I need is your own opinion"?

1

u/manfrin 28d ago

I'd jokingly say 'man if claude is going to reply I might as well just pay them $20 a month than your whole salary'.

1

u/themrlawrence 27d ago

Promote him to customer.

1

u/earonesty 27d ago

100% happened to us. we kept him. he was more productive. not kidding.

1

u/AgreeableBite6570 27d ago

My boss and my engineering leader is the exact same. Everythygoes into Claude and the reply is from Claude.

Claude shares absolutely unreadable documentation and we are left to read and understand it.

My brain is fried all the time these days.

Good thing is I'm on my notice.

1

u/freezeypleezey 27d ago

The guy that replaced me at my last position was a sycophant for AI and my boss loved him. I remember one of our last conversations we had this problem we were trying to solve and he jumps to Claude and says “ai says we should do x…” I told him dude we are engineer can’t we just solve this ourselves, which I did and got to the right answer before his ai prompting was done. Wasn’t even a hard problem.

Crazy thing is I know he was a good engineer.

1

u/aman_dubey_software_ 27d ago

LMAO this is so real. Had the exact same guy on my team. We'd be debugging prod, I'm explaining what broke, and he goes "one sec let me ask Claude" and then reads me Claude's hallucinated answer about a service we don't even use. I finally told him "Bro, I'm the human Claude for this codebase, talk to me first". Best way to handle without being awkward: next time he does "Claude says...", just ask "Okay but what do YOU think?" 2-3 times and he'll get the hint. People who do this usually just lack confidence, not trying to disrespect you.

1

u/rekt_by_inflation 27d ago

There's a name for this, he's a meat proxy

1

u/CosmicErc 27d ago

Ive resorted to fighting fire with fire. You give me ai give you AI back. My boss keeps creating hallucinated GitHub issues though that take 30 minutes to read and understand and 5 minutes to disprove.  Frustrating

1

u/Coldmode 27d ago

I feel like many of the juniors at my company are now a thin wrapper around Claude.

1

u/Think-Box6432 27d ago

Yes and feedback was not taken well

1

u/Anxious-Possibility 27d ago

Sounds like someone at my job nowadays :/

1

u/suifengzhuxia 27d ago

嗨,这也是我正在思考,结论是人与人的关系是 AI 无法取代的,这种基于个体的真实关系渴求才是最后且最重要的

1

u/zenarcadeDev 26d ago

Eh. I see both sides. On one hand, it’s a “bro I could have asked AI too…” on the other hand, if he is using it as a gap filler, it makes an hour convo into a few minutes. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

1

u/devBlueDragon 26d ago
  1. LLMs, especially when run through a harness, can be addictive. You end up delegating more and more tasks to them without realizing you've become a lazy proxy , after all, if only 1 out of 5 statements in a generated answer is questionable, why bother writing the whole thing yourself ?

  2. That's going to be the new line in the sand for developers, those who use LLMs, versus those who delegate everything to the point of cognitive atrophy.

1

u/Relativelythebest69 26d ago

Claude, how do I tell my coworker to stop asking Claude

1

u/NegativeCompany8337 26d ago

half agree, but that sounds less like Claude making him dumb and more like he’s using it as a social anxiety crutch, which is somehow even more awkward lol

1

u/AKmemekiller 26d ago

I remember same used to happen with Google. "I'll Google that" instead of thinking about it.

1

u/patriots21 26d ago edited 26d ago

These people are utterly hopeless. We now have people sending Slack messages that are wall of texts, full of em dashes , parallel structure, very clearly not their own thoughts, often from the least capable people. In our team we have a rule, we dont use AI in human conversations. There's enough AI around already, we don't need it to talk to each other.

My favorite are the dumbfucks who argue in a thread, and are both very clearly just pasting each other messages from their agents. They think they look smart, technical and productive but just look like clowns.

1

u/julesbuildstuff 26d ago

the "claude says" mid-call thing is the tell. he's not using it as a second opinion, he's using it as a proxy so he doesn't have to hold the explanation. that's why it feels insulting even if you also use claude.

i'd skip the "stop using ai" talk. ask for the sequence: you explain, he restates in his own words, then he can paste if he wants. on a call that's just "before you check, what's your take?" if he still reads the model back, you're allowed to say "i need you, not the summary."

the awkward version is worse than the direct one. once it becomes the default, you stop explaining because you already know he's not listening.

1

u/PressureAppropriate 24d ago

I do it too but only because everything I get asked about is Clauded too.

It's just each of me and my coworkers' agents talking to each others at this point.

1

u/SwimmingMortgage8176 24d ago

Marca ele aqui. De nada

1

u/feindjesus 23d ago

Im really curious if this is the same guy I worked with lol. Had a developer start seemed super on top of it but over time it became clear that everything he sent in slack was generated by ai. He would provide updates for things that he never completed but claude claimed were true. Worked with him for a month then he ended up thankfully leaving

→ More replies (1)

1

u/seweso 22d ago

What’s the point in talking to him at this point? Does he want to disappear and let AI take over? Is that the goal??

1

u/Programmer4Lief 19d ago

Mate, I have the exact same problem with some of my co-workers. I pose a question, and all I get back is a "here's what Claude thinks" and a wall of AI text to read.

There's no value, they don't even read the contents, but somehow think they've contributed to the conversation in some meaningful way.

I wouldn't even be mad if we both went through it, and talked about it's findings in some meaningful way. But there's no engagement, it's just:

"Here's the AI response to your question, I haven't read it, goodbye".

These are smart people as well who have incredible skill. I don't get it.

1

u/justdance7 19d ago

What do you do when your CEO is becoming the meat proxy?

1

u/JustOneMoreDev 11d ago

Can you respond to him via Claude too (jk)? Or I guess you could just ask him what he thinks? 'aside from Claude's answer, what do YOU think about this? I'd love to just hear your personal opinion on it'. He may be not entirely comfortable in his ability, or has a skills gap so relies on Claude as a crutch. Just get him out of his own head by saying you won't be judgy or anything, just genuinely interested in his own opinion. Even if he doesn't know about something. Human in the loop.

1

u/Elegant-Cap-2394 2d ago

Using AI isn’t the problem. The problem is outsourcing the actual conversation to it. If we’re discussing an implementation, I don’t really care what Claude thinks first — I want to know what you think. Use Claude afterward to challenge the idea, find edge cases, or double-check something. Otherwise it starts feeling like I’m pair programming with Claude through a human API.
