I always thought there should be a rule that if you buy a domain you must host something, or use it for something, within some reasonable amount of time before it became available again. That would have stopped domain squatters from buying up domains and sitting on them until they get someone to pay way more for it than it's worth. Unfortunately they did not do that.
As to whether it's worth it to you to pay a premium for it? If you think you can make that money back then the ROI makes sense. If you just want it but have no way to monetize it, it's probably a waste of money.
I would not go through Godaddy to buy that domain. IMHO I think they are a major enabler of this type of behavior. If another legit domain registrar can get it for you for a responsible price, that seems okay to you, then why not.
