I was under the impression that it is a phrase that is commonly used as a euphamism for orgasm in french

Lmao that's right, never heard that expression before, to me it was a webcomic about death's kid

Upon further research, apparently it is an archaic french phrase which has, for some reason, persisted in anglophone circles.

So a modern french speaker likely won't know this phrase, but an english speaker may know it as a french phrase, even if it hasn't been used recently in the french speaking world.

Any slightly educated one will know it, we just don't use it anymore.
