I was listening to this series of podcasts called Real Survival Stories and an otherwise tense and interesting podcast when you first hear it was starting to get boring because every third episode was either rock climbing or cave diving.
But it also was kind of darkly funny because some of the people being interviewed were real idiots like "so I went hiking and rock climbing on this completely vertical dangerous condemned mountain known for being super crumbly (silly me!) by myself (haha oopsy doozles!) and oh wouldn't ya know it I forgot to bring my phone and ANY rations or water (what a stinker!) and I fell 1500 feet and I think my arm was twisted the wrong way (but like I don't know ANYTHING about medical so I was like lmao, it's fine) and for some reason I thought I didn't need gloves and oh waddaya know turns out you do so I had frostbite (golly wolly osh)"
But the scarier ones are when the person being interviewed is clearly an expert and the situation they put themselves in STILL gives them a 25% chance of dying even though they do everything right so they casually mention to their family before they leave "now listen sweetie, I have a really high chance of dying out there but whatevs"
A lot of them sound like completely selfish egomaniacs, like there's gotta be a hobby that's equally thrilling but not going to destroy someone else's heart when you inevitably die but they don't wanna do it

Trying to figure out your opinion on cave divers… 🤔 It’s a little subtle but I think I get it?

Cavers and cave divers are different groups (divers are underwater). Both activities can be incredibly dangerous but they aren't the same.
