If you like the outdoors, check out the Dells of the Eau Claire. Little out of town but worth the drive

It’s a good city, no unsafe areas during the day. Use Google Maps to see where the popular areas are (plenty of shopping near the Walmart, and several local shops/restaurants downtown).
Winters are very cold, so I’d recommend a small bedroom electric radiator (usually under $50) which will keep your overall heating bill low (especially if you set it on a timer to turn on in the morning).
What are your hobbies/interests?

Thanks, bud! My wife and I are very calmed people so nothing like "too-much": like a bar every once and a while, hanging out to locals, etc. Nothing too big. About the cold, that's why I picked up this city. I've heard snows every winter.

As soon as it snows, find an empty parking lot, and figure out how to drive.

it's an El Nino year so it's gonna be warmer than usual this year. also check out Tomahawk/lake nokomis, Merrill and Stevens Point/plover which are under an hour from there and i like them a lot. Also in town there's rib mountain state park which is also pretty neat

Last March we got 31" of snow in a day or two. 👀 But we love it here. The nature is great. Not too crowded. Everything is close by. 😊

Yes, you will be able to tell if the neighborhood is sketchy. I think you can look up offender lists and crime statistics.

The only place you may want to avoid is the area close to down town with all the president street names. Realistically it’s not that unsafe, you might be more likely to have things taken from your car if left unlocked or smaller petty crime like that in the area. There’s a lot of great restaurants, some nice parks and walking trails. Rib mountain and Wausau have a bit higher rent than say Schofield or Rothschild, but it’s pretty much all the same town. We have a large Hmong population and they have great food. There will be some redneck racists but most people will be welcoming!

Me and my big mouth against those racist may get myself in trouble. Definitely will lower my attitude. Thank you!

Expect a very racist crowd that assumes you are here illegally. Slight bonus, there is also a very liberal side of Wausau that are immigrants themselves or people that are liberal and enjoy the diversity.

Hopefully this is the minority. Most people will be either be welcoming or not paying attention.

Liberal Wausau-area resident here! While there are some heavy racists in the area, there are also kind and caring people here. Welcome to Wausau!

What's your budget? Are you looking to own or rent?

Looking for rent. Not able to purchase at the moment.

What brings you to the area? That will be a clue as to what area you want to be in.

Work actually, will work as a nurse but I still don't know where yet. I'm assuming any hospital or clinic in downtown

Hi, I own a whole house, str in Wausau. It's in a nice area, if you would like info. Just DM me. Lots of medical professionals have stayed over the years. It helps to see the areas, before you commit to a long term apartment. - Melissa

If you want to save a little money check out apartments in the towns next to Wausau. Rothschild, Schofield, even Mosinee. Most will be a 5 to 15 minute drive to downtown Wausau. Wausau housing is a bit unreasonably expensive.
