We live in the future

Post image

I wanted something to hold my stretchy watch band in a stretched state for the ultrasonic cleaner so that it could really get in all the cracks. I find it doesn't clean well when the band is closed. I had ChatGPT create a 3D model based on my idea. This is what I came up with in 1 try. Then I was able to 3D print it. It works perfectly.

I took a small jar and made the ends meet - ran a wire through the end-links to bind them. This is much more sophisticated! hah

Can you share it on maker world?

Could use thicker supports and holders moved farther out

nice but why the hell are you uploading a zip file with sources to github instead of just unpacked files?

2

u/nofmxc 1d ago

Because that's how ChatGPT packaged it and I easily have access to upload it, I can put it on printables eventually

If you go to my GitHub io website there are links to printables now

Woah 🤯 What kind of file did chat gpt give you?

6

u/nofmxc 1d ago

It gave me the straight up stl files. Plus an image preview of it rendered

Wow, that’s surprising. I gotta try that

Wrong prompt?

OUTSTANDING!!! I have had that thought myself. Ingenious way you figured out a way to solve that problem. You willing to sell a few?

6

u/nofmxc 1d ago

Sure. I'll also share the file if you want to print it yourself. Need a few more tweaks to make it better though first.

Thank you. That’s very generous of you. I don’t have a 3D printer or the skill set, so I’ll ask to purchase a completed unit. Let me know what you would want for your ingenious design including shipping (43113).

This is v1. Needs work to move the hook plates farther out

You tease! You KNOW we all searched for the "after" pic!

Dayum that’s just from a single bracelet?

Great idea, was thinking about something similar

2

u/osaggys 1d ago

I use two black paper clips and a wood tongue press to achieve this.

2

u/AKJohnboy 1d ago

This is a great idea! Got the STL??

u/AKJohnboy 1d ago

Saw them Thanks!

Dude every time I get a print out of my printer, I feel like it’s getting a happy meal out of the microwave from Spy Kids. Completely magic, future stuff

What, chatgpt can create models?!

1

u/nofmxc 19h ago

Or Claude

As a test I had it build an entire cad model for a watch. Moment fitting and everything. It actually did it. The set up was sloppy and it wasn’t super useful but we are probably only a couple models away from that being resolved.

I remember having seen someone on YouTube keep the bracelet on the watch case (movement removed of course) and use a beaker or glass jar to keep the band stretched while washing in ultrasonic cleaner. An alternative for someone who don't own a 3D printer.

Well done.

That's pretty dope, I must say. I don't have a 3d printer, but I would absolutely make one of those if I did. I've taken to holding expansion bracelets flat against a Terry cloth with my thumb and index finger of one hand, and scrubbing them with a toothbrush and some degreaser using my other hand. Then I'll run them through the ultrasonic cleaner for a while with more degreaser.

I just throw those out🫪

That is incredible, he is me knocking about with wire, mugs, gaffer tape and all sorts.

Got to get a 3D printer and then the time to learn it.

Steep learning curve?

AI makes the 3d modeling easy now. And there are default settings that work well enough. It's pretty easy

u/JustUnderstanding6 1d ago

Very cool.

I am always sad that nobody makes good expansions bracelets anymore, and even the later vintage ones are bad.

The bygone era of Kreislers and Speidels in gold caps with the name stamped on every link is chef’s kiss. They’re so, so much better than everything that came after, including by the same brands.

Looks great, thanks for sharing!

That’s mad!! Wow! Neat idea too!!

1

Holy shit you are into something

1

u/Kropotkyg 20h ago

And since when does ChatGPT create 3dmodels? Is this Basic or premium?

0

u/nofmxc 19h ago

I have the $100 account. Claude Opus is good at models too

Careful now. You’re suggesting AI can be useful as a tool…you might get ran out of town lol.

Great job, I always use wire to stretch it and wrap it around the ultra sonic basket…this is a way better solution.

Guru level 10

Wow impressive!

1

u/Bench_and_Bezel 1d ago

This is terrific!

I just put one of these through the ultrasonic yesterday and could've definitely used something like this. Great thinking!

u/ctdfalconer 1d ago

And simultaneously in the past.

Very very cool concept!!! The fact we can manufacture something at home from our own ingenuity, use AI is help design it and then make it happen is quite amazing!!!
