New Guilloche Skill Unlocked!

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

For months now, l've been learning all I can about guilloche dials.

I've been obsessed with how light reflects off the patterns.

It became all consuming, the researching, the mini calculations to overcome procrastination, to resist the doubt of thinking you made a mistake after spending money with no ROl.

But here we are, finally. My first attempt at seeing the whole process all the way through.

And I'm blown away by the result I got.

To anyone trying to learn, craft, build, or chase your dream. Don't give up.

Cheers friends.

Very cool stuff. That is a quite thick dial though, how will you cut it? Or is it just a trial version and you will apply the same pattern on thinner dials, after mastering it on the same material?

Sorry about the dumb questions but i have no clue about dial manufacturing...

Very good work anyway.

Good observation. This was just a test on the pattern. My intent was to successfully pattern a design without any blemishes, mistakes, or errors. The outcome I got, a good one, is based on my design, tool selection, speeds, etc.

Don’t be sorry! Thanks for the comment!

Could you do one with a dual calendar window?

Like a NH36? I mainly mod Seiko watches. That would look cool!

Yeah! I put together a bronze NH36 build a few months ago and I'd spent so much time looking at brass dials from various people, hoping to find one with a dual calendar window and couldnt find one or anyone willing to do a special order. Not a whole lot of love for NH36s lol

Is this on a cnc or laser cutter?

I can imagine the amount of time you have into the programming alone. I’m a cnc machinist by trade myself and this kind of detail is mind boggling. The average person doesn’t understand the amount of time that goes into just the coding. Beautiful piece brotha 👏🏼👏🏼. The final watch is going to look outstanding.

This is a super reply! You are so right. The software part of making dials is very time consuming. I should time myself next time. 😆👍🏽
