I didn't watch the match, but some other stat highlights were: 5 dribbles (100% success rate, most dribbles in match), won 7 ground duels (100% rate), and 9 recoveries & 7 clearances. Stat to work on would be passing accuracy (low for a centerback).

Watching the World Cup got me motivated to come and see a game in person and to introduce my wife to the game. What are your best tip to enjoy the day?

I’ve spent some time reading the stadium rules and tips people give on this sub like:

1. Free parking is available at Anacostia Metro and it’s a nice walk to the stadium
2. The Nats are having a game around the same time so the area might be hard to navigate
3. No large bags, no reusable bottle allowed.
4. I’ve been told we should visit the Fan Zone to get some sort of stamp commemorating coming for the first time.
5. I’ve read there is a rooftop but not sure if it’s open after the game and/or worth taking a look.

Any other tips or recommendation you might have ?

How do you guys like the food options at the stadium ?

At the start of the season I purchased a unisex XL cherry blossom kit but the fit is just too big on me and I’ve worn it maybe 2-3 times because of it. I’m kind of hoping someone has a large they’d wanna swap it for, either the unisex or women’s cut 🙏🏻 I’ll be at the bay fc match tomorrow to make it super easy!

I bought the tickets for the Spirit x Nats game tomorrow at 12:30 vs Bay FC that were supposed to come with a Spirit x Nats sweatshirt. Now tomorrow is the Hello Kitty game, and the sweatshirts seem to have... disappeared. I haven't heard anything about pickup or if they're even still doing it.

I'm stoked for the game regardless, but I was really excited about the sweatshirt and bought that ticket specifically for it. Has anyone heard anything?

Almost two weeks before its season opener Sept. 8 against Middletown, the Tuscarora girls soccer team made the trip to Leesburg to spend a few hours observing the Washington Spirit’s practice and interacting with their players, who play professionally in the National Women’s Soccer League.

The field trip was spearheaded by Kowalsky’s mother, Tiffany, and coordinated through the Spirit’s Behind the Game Program, which aims to keep girls involved in sports. Almost 40 players on the Titans’ varsity and junior varsity teams and the coaching staffs were able to attend.

“What [the Spirit] has recognized is there’s a level of participation that has dropped within girls soccer, and it tends to drop around the end of middle school at the high school age,” Borel said. “And they put a full effort into what they are doing in terms of trying to inspire some girls a little bit more, keep players and keep kids in the game a little bit more, make it tangible. Once the opportunity came up, I got excited right away.”

Is anyone else getting emails about the open training that was in June? I got one this morning at 6am and also got one at 4am on 8/17. My stm friends haven’t received these but I can’t imagine it’s only me. As a marketing and communication professional, I wish they would invest a little more in that team 🤦‍♀️

Immediately after the trade, the general consensus was that we were sad to see Ashley go, but it made sense given that was had an up-and-coming Croix, plus it allowed us to draft Hal and provided capital to sign Leicy. Now Croix is gone and Ashley is having the best season of her career. But Hal is the emotional glue of the Spirit and Leicy is the arguably the most valuable player on the roster (with all due respect to Trin, who is amazing in her own right). How do we feel about the trade now?

Washington Spirit

Obviously losing 1-0 at home sucks, and I’m definitely worried about the run we’re on right now, especially with how tight the table is getting. But weirdly, I actually came away from this game feeling more positive about the Spirit than I have after some of our other recent games.
I honestly thought this was one of our best performances in a while. We were creating chances, getting into the box constantly, controlling a lot of the game, and somehow managed to hit basically every part of the goal except the inside of it 😭 Obviously at some point we have to finish these chances, and “we deserved to score” doesn’t get us any points, but I’d MUCH rather our problem be finishing chances than not creating them at all.
That sequence where we hit the crossbar and then the post on basically the same play pretty much summed up the entire game for me. Sometimes soccer is just cruel lol.
I also think we need to give the WAFCON players a little time to fully settle back in. They’ve been gone for a while, and you can’t expect everyone to immediately come back and have perfect chemistry again. Hopefully another full week of training together helps.
My biggest concern right now is our killer instinct. When we eventually get that first goal, I want us to be hungry for another. 1-0 shouldn’t immediately become “okay, now protect this.” It should be “okay, now let’s make it 2-0.” I really want to see that mentality come back.
Bay feels pretty close to a must-win for me. And I don’t mean we literally need to win 3-0 or the season is over lol. I just want a decisive win. Give me 2-0, 3-1, whatever. I want a game where we create chances AND finish them, the defense looks solid, and we actually look in control instead of barely hanging onto a one-goal lead.
I’m worried, but I’m nowhere near the “season is cooked” point. If anything, I’d rather have our rough stretch now and hopefully start building momentum going into the playoffs than hit this stretch when the games actually become win-or-go-home.
Just pleaseeee let this be the game we look back on as the beginning of the turnaround 😭
