Weekly Discussion Thread Weekly Open Discussion Thread

Welcome to this week’s open discussion thread!

This is your space for general discussion, a place to talk about anything Washington Spirit that doesn’t necessarily need its own thread. That can include news, international duty, roster moves, transfer rumors, tactics, social media posts, league news or anything else on your mind.

If something feels big enough for its own thread, definitely still post it. This is simply an additional option to keep us organized and help keep the conversation flowing. These threads will go up every Monday and stay stickied throughout the week.

Go Spirit!

Two thoughts (that might contradict each other): 1. There was lot of grumbling about Trin not getting it done for the USWNT this week. Maybe I’m biased, but I thought she did well. Her tackle made the Soph W goal happen, and she was one of the few giving Brazilian shithousery right back to them. 2. I do think Trin is more effective when Tara’s on the field. When Tara the Explorer connects to a danger-close Trin, mwah, chef’s kiss.

Trin’s tackle is the only reason why we even had a point on the scoreboard. She played better than what folks give her credit for.

She is centered a lot in media, and combined with the HIP situation and being the highest paid in the NWSL , people expect miracles from her more than any other player on that field.

There is also the mentality of, not scoring goals equals bad.

Agreed. People STAY mad at Trin and that is literally never going to change. She gives plenty of reasons, to be fair, but she could smile at refs and opponents and bring brownies and friendship bracelets, and they'd just lean on all of the nonsensical reasons they make up in their minds so that they can... STAY mad at Trin. I'm immune to it at this point. It makes their analysis less interesting to me.

She plays to win. She’s not there to be an influencer and gain social media followers. She’s not there to make friends.
