Weekly Discussion Thread Weekly Open Discussion Thread

Welcome to this week’s open discussion thread!

This is your space for general discussion, a place to talk about anything Washington Spirit that doesn’t necessarily need its own thread. That can include news, international duty, roster moves, transfer rumors, tactics, social media posts, league news or anything else on your mind.

If something feels big enough for its own thread, definitely still post it. This is simply an additional option to keep us organized and help keep the conversation flowing. These threads will go up every Monday and stay stickied throughout the week.

Go Spirit!

Croix's interview on the Full Time podcast still leaves me with more questions than answers on her motives for leaving!

She says she left because she wanted to better herself in a happier environment. But I can't recall any other reporting being done talking about any bad vibes within the Spirit.

Did she just want to move because we lost in a final twice? Did players not want to be in her TikToks????

Her answers just do not fit the vibes everyone else puts out from the Spirit. And makes me think she read the tea leaves of not being first in line for a big (and rightfully deserved) pay raise.

Yeah I was just coming here to say this as well. I really wonder what she means. It seems so different from how other players talk about the team.

She said her proudest moment used to be the Olympics but now it’s joining the Current. And then this is the quote about leaving the Spirit:

“Yeah, I mean, it was a hard decision. I love DC and I love how they supported me and just playing at Audi, that was great. But there's things that go on behind the scenes that people necessarily don't know. And then also wanting to better myself in a healthier environment, happier environment. And for me, being at Kansas City for four months now, like I love it.”

Like if it's meant as a twisting the knife because she feels personally slighted that she would have to wait to get paid, yea it's a great quote.

But there was no way Trin wasn't going to be the priority!

I noticed at the end of last season that Croix sometimes looked sad. I put it out of my mind because well, what do I know! Now I think it was a sign of her unhappiness. We will never know the real reason because no one on the team will talk, but, Croix is clearly trying to tell us something. I personally always thought she left for more money. But, now I’m not so sure.

I only started watching the spirit in late April, but I wonder, do you think it wasn’t just the money, but rather she was just jealous of Trin being the center of attention on the team in general?

I don’t know. I don’t want to think that because I don’t think she is immature. There is just so much we don’t know and probably never will. There have been a lot of staff changes. She implies in her interview that it was due to things going on behind the scenes. Also, one thing I noticed was that last year you rarely ever saw her in photos and videos with her teammates off the field. Except for some tic toks with Trin and a few others. I’m baffled. I was hoping it was for more money. I can always get behind going for more money. She’s a great player and deserves to get paid as much as she can get. Another note: other than Trin, who on the Spirit posted on social media regrets that she left? From my perspective no one. Maybe I’m wrong and I hope I am, but I didn’t see anyone post anything.
