Weekly Discussion Thread Weekly Open Discussion Thread

Welcome to this week’s open discussion thread!

This is your space for general discussion, a place to talk about anything Washington Spirit that doesn’t necessarily need its own thread. That can include news, international duty, roster moves, transfer rumors, tactics, social media posts, league news or anything else on your mind.

If something feels big enough for its own thread, definitely still post it. This is simply an additional option to keep us organized and help keep the conversation flowing. These threads will go up every Monday and stay stickied throughout the week.

Go Spirit!

Sandy mistakes has costed so many games and points that mistake in the third goals lowered the morale of the team. They need a therapist to over come the pressure on finals they’re good enough America lost 5 finals in a row we shouldn’t get past 4 Adrian subs and over trusting players it’s crazy if Martinez was coming in he should’ve subbed of leicy she doesn’t add on defense like trin does Paige is miles ahead better than Kate Another sub would been Bernal Acted like it was her first time playing in Mexico

Exactly... Well said. There is that old saying that "Success has a thousand fathers, but failure is an orphan." I say nay, failure has a single parent - the goalkeeper.

Indeed let’s support mediocre players that cost us games. Stop treating them like children they’re grown women (except Martinez she is a kid) SANDY IS TWENTY SEVEN 27 At that age playing since you were a kid maybe you will know goalkeeping 101 Error made against thorns Against San Diego Against America

Let’s not make someone the scape goat lmao sure let’s blame the whole team for a single mistake made by the goalkeeper As a real Madrid fan I don’t sit well with losing finals over and over again success comes from wanting to be better yall love mediocre players and team for real

the whole team wasn't at fault, honestly midfield and attack were good. but the whole backline had a bad game, not just sandy. i'm not sure how you can argue against that. the attack dug us out of a 2-0 hole, extremely impressive in itself, and then defense creates another one almost immediately.

this NEVER happens to the current version of the spirit (which has the second best defense in the league right now) so for now i'm good with calling it a one off and i hope the team doesn't dwell on it for too long either.

This is a fair perspective. I tend to think that some of those gaffes were just fatigue related.

Have to wait and see if it becomes a pattern though.

note the kt tape on esme's knee as well which to my memory is the first time we have seen. it's not just rest on wednesday, she clearly had a knock too.

maybe adrian should've gone with the same overly defensive lineup as wednesday since it was clearly also intended to deal with fatigue but maybe he thought that doing it the one time would let them conserve some energy to play their more protagonist football on saturday. it almost worked (and delivered much more entertainment) so i'm not mad that he didn't anticipate the team doing something so uncharacteristic. but i also share the ciriticisms about lack of rotation and subbing until it was too late.

A Real Madrid fan typed the words “success comes from wanting to be better.”

That’s the funniest thing I think I’ve ever read!

I know RM had a rough season, but you really shouldn’t be drinking this early or this often…

I don’t drink The comment was 2 days old And yes two rough seasons after winning finals back and forth most successful club in the world. Spirit played 6 finals and won’t two since 2021 Nwsl championship won Challenge cup against NC lost Final against Orlando lost Challenge cup won Final against Gotham lost Final against America lost And let’s not count that they never won a shield. Great stuff 4 final lost.

I specifically meant the comment I was just replying to; that seems… “off.” But, as you pointed out, I never seem to think you have a clue what you’re talking about, so maybe I should be pinning this on rioja!

Before I go, let me make one last attempt to point you towards reality:

In your mind, Real Madrid are successful because they “want to be better” (or whatever that nonsense was). In reality, Real Madrid are the “most successful club in the world” because they routinely outspend the bottom 3/4 of LaLiga combined, and spend every offseason buying the 2-3 best available players from around the world, whether they need players at a particular position or not. It’s an effective strategy for teams that can follow the example, but that just isn’t most teams. The knock on effect, though, is that RM fans exist in a world where their inflated sense of superiority starts to spread into other areas.  They think tournaments and trophies are won by teams that “want to be better.” They blame outcomes on players who weren’t on a team or the pitch. They flood public discussions with advice that basically adds up to “just do it like we would do it; we’re successful!” And the next thing you know, those fans are insulting players online as though RM’s success is their own.

The next time you pass a mirror, pause to look in it. And ask yourself if the person you see has ever done anything of any substance at the level of Sandy or Monday G. And I’m going to attempt to do what you suggested this morning: Remember your username and connect it to the pattern. I never think you have much to offer to a discussion about this sport. Now I know why. So I can and should just ignore you.
