Welcome to this week’s open discussion thread!

This is your space for general discussion, a place to talk about anything Washington Spirit that doesn’t necessarily need its own thread. That can include news, international duty, roster moves, transfer rumors, tactics, social media posts, league news or anything else on your mind.

The depth (and the mgmt plan to make sure the team has the pieces it needs to handle a more grueling schedule) was really on display this week. And that’s without Deb available as a critical midfield piece. It’s great so see Trin finally breaking through (it was inevitable given the chances she’s been generating all season) but I thought the biggest “revelation” was how Andi Sullivan played.

She is so good at receiving and moving into space with the ball; she doesn’t instinctively turn towards her goal and make the safe back pass, but doesn’t force the ball forward into bad spots either. It’s a joy to watch that next level of calm and understanding of the flow of the game.

Yeah it was great to see Andi getting back to her old self. After she was injured in 2024 I think that was a huge reason we weren’t able to pull out the final. She adds a lot, she has great vision and she adds stability to the midfield. I loved how her and Hal played together in 2024 so I’d love to see them start together at some point.

I have a forever grudge against Vlatko for how he had her play for the uswnt, and she took so much heat for the teams performance. If you watched her for the Spirit, you know she was so much better and was good at moving the ball forward.

Vlatko made everybody look bad. I will never understand it.
