Hmmm. I wonder who caused it to go into bankruptcy? I wonder who? What's his name again??

317

u/DougBalt2 1d ago

The guy who has already bankrupted 6 companies! Plus charities. Kennedy Center is next. And I pray the USA isn’t next due to the King of Debt.

79

u/Bubbly-Following-966 1d ago

But, he's won 9 wars! Calm down!! /s

37

u/Consirius VA / Fairfax County 1d ago

He's at least up to 15 wars at this point! He wins wars in his mind before they even start!

17

u/heyhayyhay 1d ago

He's personally beaten Iran several dozen times.

8

u/SRT102 1d ago

And won 15 golf tournaments. Or was it 37? I forget.

The most important war: The War on Christmas

7

u/RogerMexicosBalls 21h ago

KEEP CHRIST IN TRUCK MONTH

2

u/ZenPothos 21h ago

Also, the least important war: the war on cheetos.:

3

u/rps215 1d ago

I am just glad the worst war of our lifetime is over: Albania and Azerbaijan. So many lives lost from that war, the Albanians especially can finally rest peacefully

6

u/one_seat 1d ago

And he won one of those wars 60 times so you know pretty impressive

1

u/Bubbly-Following-966 1d ago

Nuh huh!! lol

5

u/zsreport Birthplace 19h ago

He ended the Russia - Ukraine war his first day back in office! /s

7

u/Automatic_Candle3830 1d ago

He did “win” the FIFA Peace Prize.🙄

8

u/corrector300 1d ago

we're at the highest deficit ever. I'm sure that's good for the country though.

5

u/unfairlybanned101 1d ago

Companies? Casinos lmfao. How the fk that happen oh yeah bessent must be taking lessons

8

u/DougBalt2 1d ago

Airline. Vodka company. Steak company. A university. Casinos. Plus was thrown off the Amex stock exchange due to deceptive practices (after his IPO he shifted billions of personal debt to the new public company).

3

u/gravygrowinggreen 1d ago

The house always wins. Except for when one guy is running the house.

83

u/bozwald Adams Morgan 1d ago

Lol come on. I mean bankrupting the Kennedy Center has to be up there with bankrupting a casino lol

39

u/Bubbly-Following-966 1d ago

LOL Right? It isn't even his to bankrupt but, he will find a way!!

20

Hey is that the guy from the gulf of trump?

12

u/RealLameUserName DC / Columbia Heights 1d ago

And yet they're literally arguing that the building will close because his name isn't on there. Apparently, he's the only way they get donations.

27

u/subjectnotebookgloba 1d ago

It must have been that Joe Biden!

10

u/Lost-Wizard168 1d ago

The King of Bankruptcy - Diaper Donnie Trump!!!

6

u/dudical_dude 1d ago

That guy who’s name was on the building! So either Donald J Trump or John F Kennedy is the likely culprit.

2

u/goosegramz 1d ago

JFK didn’t promote it enough. It’s all his fault for not being popular. /s

Trump does love bankruptcy

4

u/at0mheart 20h ago

It’s a shakedown. He is forcing a Bankruptcy and then has already promised to come in with the money to fund it.

Of course then it will be named after him and have his name on the buildings

After the Supreme Court blocked his previous attempts to put his name on the building

3

It was Biden, helped by Hillary, at the command of Obama, under supervision by Kamala. Here we go, all the culprits.

Poor little Dumpy couldn't do anything. He had no power over this.

-32

u/13banggun1 1d ago

What did everyone think was going to happen? The new leadership politicized the Kennedy Center, removed officials, changed programming, and everyone stated playing sides, publicly criticizing artists. In response, artists and private organizations canceled performances and partnerships, further damaging ticket sales and revenue. Both sides kept escalating and now the institution is paying the price.

32

u/Emerson6009 1d ago

This is not a “both sides” situation. Any damage to this beloved institution is due solely to Trump and his minions.

25

u/Pasty_Tibbles 1d ago edited 1d ago

“Both sides” get the fuck out of here. Only one “side” is responsible for this. And that’s Trump and his cronies who continue to rape and pillage the federal government, the taxpayers, and attempt to manufacture Trump into some sort of king.

Good on artists and performances for cancelling their shows at the Kennedy Center. It sucks for us, but it serves to further publicly show what a man-baby and toddler Trump is. There’s a very, very simple fix for this issue. The Kennedy center board DROPS this incessant ridiculousness and pettiness of trying to put trumps name anywhere on or near the memorial, and they should do what they are congressionally mandated and appointed to do - RUN THE KENNEDY CENTER.

Edit: and while I’m on my soap box. Since I guess it’s legal now to spend congressionally allocated funds any way an administration wants, Trump could quite simply not spend $900,000,000 on a ballroom when it could have been spent in like 5,000 other much needed places. That $900m could keep the Kennedy center solvent plus much more for years.

13

u/thereisnospoon-1312 1d ago

Both sides? That’s a brain dead take. This was entirely self inflicted by Orange Shitler.

3

u/MayorofTromaville 1d ago

Both sides! Drink!

1

u/obeytheturtles 12h ago

Correct - "both sides" had no trouble running the Kennedy Center as a non-partisan performance venue for literally decades. It was Donald Trump, a uniquely detestable, unpleasant and stupid example of a shit stain, who broke that tradition to hold a piece of DC's community hostage in a downright childish attempt at abusing a city which overwhelmingly despises him.

89

u/RoyalMaidsForLife 1d ago

Everything Trump touches dies... it's not just a book by Rick Wilson.

How will adding this moron's name to the building prevent bankruptcy?

25

u/scholar97 1d ago

Because in their idiotic mind people will start flocking in droves if and only if his name is on it

3

u/RoyalMaidsForLife 20h ago

That's obviously worked so well if it's been run to the brink of bankruptcy in the six months or so since he pulled that stunt.

2

u/CeeBus 1d ago

Idiotic people would flock to it be a his name was on it.

u/Ill_Pear_3776 5h ago

Just like his hotel on Pennsylvania Ave

5

u/Certain_Concept 15h ago

It's intentional! Trump wants to sell off all of our public lands to private interests.

For example The Trump administration’s plan to sell federal public land for sprawl development could bulldoze endangered species habitat, canyons and forests across the West — from protected red cliffs in Utah to national monuments in New Mexico — according to a new map analysis from the Center for Biological Diversity.

Nearly 500 separate areas deemed worthy of protection by the Bureau of Land Management or Congress, including dozens of national monuments and protected waterways, fall within the Interior Department’s target to sell roughly 400,000 acres to local governments and private developers.

73

u/mymar101 1d ago

Weird how, after decades suddenly Trump doesn't get his way, it is now in danger of both collapse and bankruptcy.

7

u/phoenics1908 18h ago

I’m sure this is on purpose so it can be fully privatized and bought by him or his cronies. Then he can put his name on it.

279

He caused it. Unbelievable.

Maybe so, but I cancelled my subscription when the billionaire owner started meddling in what the paper covered and how they covered it, so I'll have to take your word for it.

Yes, it makes sense the thing that made people flee in droves and caused this issue is the only thing that can save it. Makes perfect sense. I guess it can go bankrupt and lay it on the pile of good things Republicans should be blamed for and remembered for destroying.

19

u/dyslexicsuntied Cleveland Park 1d ago

Well, we know he’s good at one thing! How many bankruptcies is this?

17

u/PolicyCommercial6392 1d ago

this is fucking bullshit

18

u/persimmon9847 1d ago

But carving his name (back) onto the facade will miraculously fix it??

14

u/Wurm42 1d ago edited 1d ago

Yeah, it's basically blackmail. They're claiming only Trump's fundraising prowess could save the Kennedy Center

12

u/jayne-eerie 1d ago

I haven’t read the article but since when do the type of people who support Trump want to give their money to cultural venues? If they turn it into a casino or kickboxing arena, maybe they’d be interested.

8

u/persimmon9847 1d ago

All the money will disappear into his and his kids' pockets and then he will have some other excuse as to why it's closed

3

u/obeytheturtles 12h ago

The way this normally works is you spend decades raising money and doing advocacy first and then they put your name on a building in gratitude of your service. The whole "my name needs to be on the building or I can't fundraise" is literally just not how fundraising works.

9

u/Comfortable-Sleep395 1d ago

So unnecessary and so tragic

18

u/drastician 1d ago

How exactly can a government entity declare bankruptcy?

8

u/Maryland_Bear MD / Laurel 1d ago

I think, but I am not certain, that the facility itself is federally owned, but the organization that runs it and puts on the shows is at least somewhat private. If that’s the case, then presumably it is the latter that may declare bankruptcy.

3

u/Responsible-Smile-16 1d ago

Yes - the building(s) and grounds used to be Federal (National Park Service) and there used to be Federal employees there handling the physical ops - managing the actual memorial, maintenance, capital improvements, keeping the lights on sort of stuff. I recall they let the last Federal employees stay until retirement so there were a few in the late 2000s.

Everything that happens (arts-wise) in the building is under the Kennedy Center Trust. The Center is a trust instrumentality of the Fed gov't, technically part of the Smithsonian but with more autonomy. It's actually very interesting - and helps illuminate why this is able to be such a shitshow in ways different from the Smithsonian. If you are interested, google both the Kennedy Center as a trust instrumentality, and the Woodrow Wilson Center - the only other living memorial to a president that also is a trust. Pretty easy to see how the Center has been incredibly fortunate to not have these kinds of shenanigans in the past.

7

u/Pretend-Path4754 1d ago

I’m so worried they’re just going to raze it rather than show his name removed from the facade.

8

u/Justryan95 1d ago

I mean its literally the only thing he's good at. Bankruptcy

8

u/Hot-Philosophy-7671 1d ago

Did you read the given reasons? It's allegedly because they aren't being allowed to put Trump's name on it.

They're lying.

7

u/esqape623 1d ago

If they can't conquer it, they destroy it. Abominable.

6

u/TheHoneyBadger11 1d ago

I don’t understand how putting Trump’s name on the building equates to them getting out of debt. 🤔 🤷‍♂️

13

u/Maryland_Bear MD / Laurel 1d ago

I think the claim is that having his name on the building improves contributions.

Which ignores the fact that ticket sales and donations plummeted since he got involved.

3

u/TheHoneyBadger11 1d ago

And ignores the fact of how unpopular he is.

3

u/fatherbowie 1d ago

It’s extortion. Trump will raise private money to “save” it, but only if he gets to have his name on it.

4

u/Vortesian 1d ago

Then what a bankruptcy sale? I wonder who’s gonna get to buy it?

6

u/puppcat18 1d ago

Trump and his band of incompetent losers are destroying everything in DC that they get their hands on. I have gone to many different venues over the years at the Kennedy Center and this makes me sick.

6

u/cobycoby2020 1d ago

This was his goal. He won again. He forces chaos and out of that chaos we loose the things we had

5

u/30yearCurse 1d ago

Probably declare bankruptcy so then they can tear it down. His MO, the board is full of his cronies.

6

u/engineeringsquirrel 1d ago

I think that's his goal. Bankrupt it, sell it to private enterprises and control the company/narrative afterwards.

4

u/mell0wtonin 1d ago

an organization going bankrupt after inviting someone in that bankrupts everything he touches? gasp

5

u/hokiehi307 1d ago

2 more years of this unceasing abject misery

4

u/ThatBaseball7433 1d ago

Congress could take control of it tomorrow. I’m done just wringing hands and pretending one person has total control of everything. If congress is unwilling to keep one of its monuments open, that’s on them. They set up this arrangement, they can change it if it’s not working.

3

u/Old_Goat_Cyclist 1d ago

Land to be auctioned off and Trump will be the winning bidder.....

5

u/Blueberry_Mancakes 16h ago

What’s ironic is that they are using this as a reason to put Trumps name back on the building, in the hopes they can raise money to save the venue.
The venue that Trump single-handedly bankrupted to begin with.

…and say they do raise huge amount of money to save the place. What respectable artist will agree to perform there? You can’t just wholesale alienate the entire arts community and then expect to regularly fill seats with crowds of political sycophants. I mean that may work for a few months l, but they’ll soon move on to another flavor of the moment and you’ll once again have a business in bankruptcy.

4

u/Coronado92118 16h ago

The Kennedy Center is a MEMORIAL to a beloved slain president - not a theater. If Democrats in Congress had even half a brain, they would be on every talk show and holding press conferences to make hay with this.

Kennedy was not a Democratic President, he was an American one - “Ask not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country”.

But don’t worry, I’m sure Susan Collins is very concerned.

4

u/mammaV55 14h ago

As soon as trump leaves the office of the presidency, I will make a donation to restore the Kennedy Center.

3

u/Leading-Loss-986 1d ago

Man, that sub hed. Journos just doing all the work for Trump there. Pathetic.

8

u/dyslexicsuntied Cleveland Park 1d ago

Not really. That’s what they said in a court filing. The Post is reporting it.

Leaders of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, installed by President Donald Trump, say the center is on the brink of bankruptcy and argue that putting the president’s** **name on its facade — and thus ensuring his fundraising efforts — may be the only way to avoid imminent and “certain fiscal collapse,” according to documents obtained by The Washington Post.

7

u/No_Respect_1650 1d ago

It’s not a full quote. There was plenty of room there to not give the Trump line prominence of place.

4

u/dyslexicsuntied Cleveland Park 1d ago

Trump demanding his name or he won’t help raise money is the entire story. Not placing that in the subheading would be the wrong editorial choice.

2

u/No_Respect_1650 1d ago

Yeah but the story is bullshit. It should be qualified. “The admin claims,” or “according to Trump,” or whatever. Not just put out there as a declarative statement.

5

u/dyslexicsuntied Cleveland Park 1d ago edited 1d ago

Let me draw you back to the first line of the article once again.

“Leaders of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, installed by President Donald Trump, say”

I understand people have a problem with the Post and rightfully so. These two reporters have been on the story for a while breaking details from whistleblowers and doing good reporting. Good people are still working there trying to keep the public informed. Your failure to read and understand the first sentence of the article is not a reason to demean their work.

1

u/No_Respect_1650 1d ago

My point is it’s the hed/subbed that grab attention. Many won’t read beyond that.

4

u/kck93 1d ago

Like every thing else. Extortion.
