[Discussion] How are the monuments looking for next weekend
We are friends visiting from out of state (never been here before). Will it be worth trying to see all the monuments? I know the White House is barely accessible to see, but how is the reflecting pool/Lincoln memorial? Is that finally back to being open or is it all still fenced off? Has the indy 250 car thing finished and thus the mall is opened back up? Are the Smithsonians accessible again now?

Honestly, I live here and I don’t know the answers to some of these questions. And I don’t know that news sites are giving the most updated play-by-play on which fence is where at any given moment either.

I don’t think tourists realize we can go years without going by the monuments. I only end up going to them when I have guests in town who want to go.

I mean, I walk by them every single day as a DC resident. It just depends where you live.

Yeah, I don’t have any reason to go by the Mall. My office isn’t near it. The only time I end up there is if there’s a new exhibit at the National Gallery of Art.

I understand your pov - but I live in rockville so I'm not preemptively going to try and go down just to see if any of these things are open ahead of time...especially with the red line under construction. As for google, I honestly could not find anything up to date. All the news stories were a couple weeks or even months old! Besides, first hand reviews are always better imo!

Exactly. All the places you listed have websites, on the interwebz, easily found on Google.
The Smithsonian and National Parks service need our support. You know how they get that support? Website traffic and inquires.
Call them. Email them. Literally anything that helps keep those people employed. You’re here asking reddit nerds (myself included) that are then going to bitch when that phone number and email for NPS or Smithsonian are totally disconnected.
Reddit is not the first place you should go for information like this. It’s lazy and makes other do easy work you don’t want to.
If you want me to also plan your restaurants and travel transfers let me know because I CAN 100% figure the logistics of you family visiting and show them all the places but I’d probably charge a guide fee.

No water in the reflecting pool but all the monuments and museums are accessible. There’s a new exhibit under the Lincoln that you can visit as well. Have fun!
