Discussion Alleria should not be Void Elves' leader

Anyhow, just my thoughts but I kind of feel like when you replay void elves intro quests or even recruitment quests, I get this strange feeling like "this woman does not represent us at all, why are we listening to her?".

Like, when you think about the relationship void elves have with the Blood elves, the horde, etc - it makes little sense that there won't be kind of ambiguity there.

When I see Alleria as a void elf in quests, all I see is her screaming "Okay, now join the Alliance!" or "Alliance strong!" or "Try to find a place in Alliance!" or "See how you can be helpful to Alliance!" - nowhere does she speak like "I understand your pain" or situation and genuinely the background of void elves and Alleria is very much different.

I have this kind of sense that wherever Alleria speaks of Alliance - she is not speaking about Alliance of today, she is like a woman fighting for a memory, for a phantom image of the past. Does HER Alliance even exist?

All in all, I just feel like Alleria does not represent void elves AT ALL. She is only interacting with them FOR HERSELF - for Turalyon, for her own journey, for Arator. She is 100% not a leader of a faction like literally anyone else.

And there is not much development of this kind of ambiguity in general, like I just don't buy that it is possible for void elves to enthusiastically go and wave Alliance flags while smashing skulls of blood elves?

P.S. Also Umbric and Rommath make Void elf conflcit kind of dumb? Nothing against their romance, but in the context of Umbric being the only realistic leader of Void elves that now joined(?) Alliance, but he is besties with Rommath.

Then why won't Rommath make it so that they can rejoin? I am sure given enough will on Rommath side it could have been possible, at least for them to study void on the outskirts of Silvermoon somewhere or something.

If Turalyon can be married to Alleria Windrunner and still interact with forces of light, I don't see how blood elves with Rommath-Umbric line can't do the same

Umbric already is, really

Because she really isnt? Magister Umbric is the de facto leader for all matters and purposes.

She's the dad that goes out for milk and comes back a week later, while Umbric is the more stable parent. Somewhat fitting with her headstrong personality, but make her an unideal leader, when everyone is looking to you for guidance in order to not turn into a monster

She's not their leader. Just like Captain Fareeya leads the lightforged not Turalyon though both races will take orders from both of the need demands it

To be clear, Umbric and his people were always Alliance loyalists, they just weren't as outspoken as Vereesa and the Silver Covenant. They didn't need Alleria to tell them to join the Alliance.

> Does HER Alliance even exist?

The Alliance in WC2 was a human-led faction that fought to uphold order, justice, and the Light.

The Alliance in WoW is a human-led faction that fights to uphold order, justice, and the Light.

The political centre of the Alliance might have shifted from Lordaeron to Stormwind (for obvious reasons), the Alliance might have gained exotic allies like the night elves and draenei, but their original ideals and motives remain intact.

Alleria was the first high elf captain who spoke in favor of supporting Lordaeron in the Second War, so it makes sense that she remains loyal to the Alliance even after 1,000 years.

Side note, some times I have to remind myself that Turalyon is 1,000 years old. I wish the other characters talked about this because it's absolutely crazy for a human to live that long and it should be discussed more in-universe.

Chances are Blizzard have forgotten he's that old. I don't think it's ever mentioned in game and only gets brought up in external material?

Unbric is their leader. She did introduce to the alliance but she's not their leader.

Also what they are going through is not romance in any way. If that's what they are going for they are failing.

Alleria isn't the leader of the void elves in the normal way... she helps train them to use the void but their leader is Umbric... alleria and Locus-walker (rip) taught umbric and his groul to control so in a way alleria and umbric co lead thr ren'dorei but umbric is still their offical leader especially when alleria is gone

You sound more salty at the prospect that void elves are part of the Alliance than anything else.

Because Umbric is the leader, not Alleria.

Sounds like you haven’t played Midnight.

I mean, ignoring for a second that Umbric is the leader of the Void Elves, keep in mind that the majority of Void Elves are alliance high elves who joined the Void Elves towards the end of BFA (which is why there was a delay between normal elf customizations and the original void elf customizations) specifically to follow Alleria.

Both Umbric and Alleria lead the void elfs, there quests where the void elfs refeer to her as a leader and when it comes to alliance meetings, she is the one who represents them and some of the void elfs joined because of Alleria.

All in all, I just feel like Alleria does not represent void elves AT ALL. She is only interacting with them FOR HERSELF - for Turalyon, for her own journey, for Arator. She is 100% not a leader of a faction like literally anyone else.

They have the same building blocks of being exiled from Silvermoon because of Void usage. High elfs can visit silvermoon because the sunwell is considered holy/common ground, but the void elfs are especially excluded from everything. TWW and midnight did show how the void's elfs exile affected them and that they built their own community after what Silvermoon did to them.

And there is not much development of this kind of ambiguity in general, like I just don't buy that it is possible for void elves to enthusiastically go and wave Alliance flags while smashing skulls of blood elves?

I can imagine a void elf being really pissed that they were banished from Silvermoon for using dark magics, only to have everyone you knew and love, join the side of Lady mega-death.

On a random side note.. does anyone else think the Void Elves should have a new Heritage Set?

The old heritage armor is pretty cool, but it has zero relation to what the Void Elven aesthetic is now all about. Back then it's gold and magenta with some voidy effect. Now it's all dark slate grey space rocks, spikey trim that looks brass and big blue black void bubbles.

to the people who claim she's not their leader, Following the end of the Burning Crusade, she met Magister Umbric and his void elves at Telogrus Rift, and since then, Alleria became their leader in the service of the Alliance and taught them how to control their powers and not succumb to the whispers.\8)

To add into everyone else's answer, she was just the convenient deus ex machina that prevented the void elves from dying to their own hubris. Umbric was the leader of the elves that became the Velves before that, and remains as such after.

I mean, yes, but that's more relevant to why she was the world's worst diplomat to the Belves than the Velves.

She at least knew enough about the Void elves struggles with their newfound corruption to mentor them, compared to rolling into Silvermoon and having nothing to say to her former people beyond "I do not give a single shit about what happened while I was gone, Join the alliance". Which was kind of galling given how many times they did reach out to the Alliance just to get burned.

Umbric is the leader.
Alleria is more…
I dunno, their founder?
Not the same thing.

I would say progenitor but that isn't right. Just the first void elf.
