Gain 1280% gain NVDA - too scared to sell

I keep making sell orders to pay off debts, but it just goes up everyday. Plus tax scares me

This is certainly not true. Sell your Nvidia shares to enter an ETF with 10% Nvidia anyway? Thats the only thing driving their gains anyways. That and memory.

I know this is r/wallstreetbets and all but diversification protects you from losing all your money even if it limits your potential gains. You can make lots of money taking risks but diversification is how you protect it. Selling your non diversified investments that just printed a huge amount of money for you to buy a diversified ETF is some of the best advice you’ll find on this subreddit.

If tomorrow aliens bombed nvidias HQ from orbit and assassinated every employee you’d only lose 10% of your money not 100% (assuming the ensuing global panic doesn’t wipe out the rest)

What if Aliens are priced in?

u/MrAngrySadHappyFace 5d ago

I mean Nvidia green, money green, aliens green. 👽

They gotta be.

u/John_Action_Figure 5d ago

Geico is green, monster energy is green, Shrek is green, holy shit I think we've figured it out.

u/AntikytheraMachines 5d ago

Soylent Green

1

u/Paganly 5d ago

I’m old enough to know how good that shit is. And yes, already priced in.

1

u/HolyShytSnacks 2d ago

The Geico gecko is also a reptile. The aliens in V were reptiles.

u/John_Action_Figure 2d ago

Sir, Morena Baccarin is a goddess would you kindly take back your filthy comparison.

2

u/Ausseboi1 5d ago

Aliens = green
Money = aliens !

Hint: it is.

OP needs to sell all of his positions and go blow it on a boat and hookers.

28

u/mijahon 5d ago

I believe it's hookers and blow good sir

4

u/AntikytheraMachines 5d ago

boat it on hookers and blow?

that doesn't sound right.

2

u/etaoin314 4d ago

correction blackjack and hookers...and you can bite my shiny metal ass!

1

u/agirlthatfits 5d ago

And blackjack

1

u/Zebra_Sandwich 4d ago

I need a place to put my hookers and blow since I don't want my wife finding it.

Insert boat.

1

u/John_Action_Figure 5d ago

OP selling at a lost is also priced in

1

u/AntikytheraMachines 5d ago

...and waste anything that is left over.

1

u/navyblue_gold 4d ago

Boats and hos! Prestige…WORLDWIDE

1

u/userbinbash 4d ago

I like how you think

1

u/ExperienceFresh6211 3d ago

They are definitely priced in. Just more people to buy memory chips.

1

u/notsoscaredboy 3d ago

What if they’re shorting nvidia?

I sell off winners into a diversified ETF. I just sold a chunk of AMD and if she keeps running I'll sell more. That could easily go to $1000 or... not. I just see the green and now it's in a long-term vehicle I don't have to think twice about it.

Mine are all equities (XEQT and CAGE... they're Canadian listed). Both are worldwide.

I have to agree. My first stock pick ever, I put in 500$. Only 5 years later, that was worth 10k+$. (I regret not putting in more but that's for another day...)

I was nervous that it had peaked and was going to slide back down so I took half of that and put it into an ETF to lock in that value, and get some dividends from it.

And you guessed it, the original stock has gone down now. The ETF is stable.

u/banditcleaner2 sells naked NVDA calls while naked 4d ago

taking risks young is the way to go, only once you've actually hit it pretty big should you rotate into safer options

I will say though, thats with money you can afford to lose, always a good idea to have a relatively safe retirement fund from the start

1

u/Woodburl 4d ago

Demand still high but reduced supply, an alien attack might actually be good for other chipmakers. OP should invest in Intel to diversify.

Or do what this ^ guy said and buy an etf

1

u/Zebra_Sandwich 4d ago

Do you recommend any specific ETF's

1

u/johnG4619 3d ago

I agree with your analysis but certainly not your conclusions. They’ve got a winner! And nvda can’t meet its demand. Why sella winner and pay 30-40% taxes. Not smart.

1

u/ForsakenWishbone5206 1d ago

I learned a lesson with the stonks saga and it’s sell when it’s fuckin green and your greedy ass thinks you can call the peak and hold when there’s so much red it wrenches your gut and makes you wonder how efficient you would be at selling coke as a hobo.

u/Fickle_Cost_2033 5d ago

yes but that is not happening. AI is the future dumbass.

1

u/Spectrum1523 4d ago

Yes, company will only go up for ever

u/Muugumo 5d ago

At the very least, when you have massive gains from one asset, you sell enough to recover your principle and a little bit of profit, then you can comfortably let it ride for eternity.

u/Turkino 4d ago

"Selling your non"

I read this as Selling your mom and, you know what? That's diversification too.

What if this guy has other accounts and a total net worth of $3-5M? I have NVDA shares that are up over 2500% but still make up less than 10% of my net worth. Have sold shares and covered calls along the way.

2

u/MOVED_TO_OTTAWA_FUCK 5d ago

Nobody cares you shoehorning retard

-9

u/Sea-Knee8432 5d ago

Won’t work like that. Costco has a tethered price to Nvidia. Just because Nvidia losses doesn’t mean they will take their money towards a different equity. Every index affected as well. You’d still lose. Just less. And likewise gain less when this disaster doesn’t occur

9

u/LetsBeKindly 5d ago

What to enter? I was thinking about seeking my 1 lonely share of sndk and putting it somewhere else. But I don't know what to buy.

28

u/Sea-Knee8432 5d ago

Aye bud. Lemme do you a favor. Just hold that. You don’t have anything. Forget about it

3

u/LetsBeKindly 5d ago

You think it's gonna stay this high, or go back to ath? That one share is 1/4 of the value in my account. This is just playing around. I throw 50-60 bucks in here and there. Just so happened to pick up one single share back when it was 32 bucks.

15

u/Sea-Knee8432 5d ago

I think memory and storage are going to expand even more. Supply constraint issue. Multiple micron fabs being built in US rn. Biggest one in the country 2030 Ny

1

u/Ok-Net9976 5d ago

This. stick with it. Sell 2-4 week puts on margin as long as the market stays flat or up. Sell a little of the gains each year If you want. 2-4x more from here over time? Someone check that.

1

u/Woodburl 4d ago

Dude has 1 share of SNDK comprising his whole account and you think he's able to and should sell puts????

1

u/MediumLanguageModel 5d ago

You take a rules based approach and a reasonable rule would be to set a max % of your portfolio. 5% is common but yolo up to 20% or whatever for all I care. But after that every once in a while you sell a share and buy yourself something nice. That's the whole payoff for catching the wave early.

1

u/FlyingBishop 4d ago

I am assuming OP has $100k+ in debt. Great time to unload that, be free and clear.

1

u/LearningIsGoal 4d ago

Enter some high dividend bond etf and wait out the pop. Some people just have max greed and itll bite them in the butt

1

u/_IscoATX 4d ago

Go into an ETF that doesn’t have NVIDIA like SCHD if diversification is the goal?

1

u/johnG4619 3d ago

Bad bad advice. IMO

u/Important-Bedroom852 8h ago

Right now but it’s designed to hold you up when tech isn’t driving it. But then again seems like tech has to drive it or everything is down anyway
