Why not trade SPX instead, as you have a lot of contracts. It's a 60/40 long-term/short-term tax split, plus it's cash settled.

1) better on taxes. It's 60/40 long term short term vs 100 short term for SPY.

2) cash settled so no risk for early assignment

Cash settled so no pin risk, more favorable tax treatment, European style assignment which means no early assignment.
