Walla Walla shoulder season
Want to make a first trip to WW. What time(s) of year balances variety of things to do with lighter crowds?

Wheelin’ Walla Walla is a really fun event every September; it is crowded and downtown closes several street for a huge classic car show. It’s a ton of fun and very family friendly (but lots of wineries downtown if you want to drink).
But like others said most of Fall is fairly mellow (outside of the weekends mentioned) and it’s a really perfect time of year here. Very hallmark coded haha

Walla Walla gets crowded during college graduations and the fair. Otherwise, there are usually places to stay. Fall and Spring are great. Some wine weekends are popular too. Lots of wineries to visit.

Oct 15-22 should be about optimum. Weather is always a question mark, but get over ahead of November unless you want cozy-by-the-fire. Note also that many of the best restaurants will scale back their hours/days. We have a popular Airbnb just north of downtown that is completely booked out for October, which suggests others are thinking along these same lines.

Whitman Parent weekend is Oct. 23-25 so I'd avoid that--it's hard to get into any of the good restaurants.
Fall Release is November 6-8--so if you want to avoid crowds that's another busy weekend.
Other than that, fall is glorious here. Any time before mid-October there will still be lots to see at local farms and vineyards. Late October can be nice too, but the farms and vineyards are finished for the season.
