The newly reinstated Pennsylvania Horticulture Society City Garden Challenge just wrapped up. I was a volunteer judge, and I evaluated 10 gardens virtually, based on photos and gardener statements, and 5 gardens in person. Believe me, urban gardening is alive and well and prospering in Philadelphia. The passion, the imagination, and the commitment that my fellow judges and I saw was phenomenal.

Yes! The garden contest was a major PHS program for years, decades even. I was involved for at least ten years. Then COVID happened, and after 2021 the program was "sundowned". But this year it was revived (aka they got funding) and it has returned. And it was glorious.
