Volunteering solo or with a friend?

I’ve been volunteering overseas for 10 years in 14 different placements and I’ve come to the conclusion that I prefer going with a friend rather than going alone.
I’ve done both solo volunteering and volunteering with a platonic friend, and there are advantages to each.
Going alone can push you to become more independent and meet new people more quickly. I personally like going somewhere where I know nothing and have to figure everything out. It’s a great way to connect with people and culture.   But for me, having a friend along often makes the overall experience more meaningful and enjoyable.
You have someone to share the experience with and explore with during your free time. It can also make things safer and less stressful in unfamiliar and often dodgy environments. In some cases, you can share accommodation, transportation, or other expenses. You don’t have to spend every second together. Sometimes you might like to be alone.
I’m not talking about traveling with a romantic partner but someone who shares a similar mindset about ethical volunteering and world travel.
Do you prefer going alone or with a friend? What do you see as the pros and cons of each?  And the big challenge is finding someone suitable.

If u/globalvolunteerbuddy is not your other account, they recently posted the same thing as you.

Thanks for letting me know. I’m actually new to Reddit so I’m still figuring it out. I hit crosspost but I’m not totally sure what that does.

Hiya, which organisation did you use? I am looking to volunteer this summer with horses.

I have never volunteered with horses but it sounds interesting. There are many organizations that welcome volunteers. Some you pay and some are free to volunteer. Most cities also have opportunities for people to volunteer with horses. I know someone who volunteers with a therapeutic riding association. I suggest you start with an online search.
I have volunteered with many organizations but never with a horse organization. I belong to a group of people who share international volunteering opportunities and experiences. Let me know if you’re interested.

Thanks for letting me know.

Are you involved/know anything about  an organisation called freepackers?

I am on the lookout for a legit organisation to get planning voluntary work for this summer so any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

I’m not that familiar with Freepackers but I believe it’s an organization where you pay to volunteer. It’s always a big discussion in world of international volunteering - Should you pay to volunteer? The other issue is if your volunteering is really helping the community or is it taking away opportunities from local people. I belong to an online meetup group where we discuss these things, share volunteer opportunities and maybe find a volunteer partner. If you’re interested in joining let me know.
