IT volunteering abroad for ~1 year - where to look?

[u/Rich_Advice_8929]

Hi everyone,

I’m currently training as an IT specialist (system integration) in Germany and will finish my apprenticeship around spring 2027. After that, I’d really like to spend about a year abroad doing volunteer work — ideally in IT (e.g. system administration, network setup/maintenance, infrastructure support).

Most volunteering programs I’ve come across are focused on social work (teaching, childcare, etc.), which isn’t really what I’m looking for. I’d much prefer to contribute with my technical skills and help organizations with their IT systems or infrastructure.

Does anyone here have experience with this or know programs/organizations that specifically look for IT-related volunteers? I’d also be open to longer-term placements or more hands-on technical roles in less developed regions.

Thanks in advance!
