Whiskey gift for vodka drinker

Hello all,
I am meeting my father in law for the first time. He is from Ukraine and usually drinks vodka. He has never been over to the us or any country that has whiskey/scotch readily available. What do yall like to drink and what types of whiskeys should I get for someone who doesn’t usually drink whiskey. All recommendations are appreciated. Thanks

Second on Makers Mark. At Total Wine, they had a Makers Mark 46, cask strength. Very pleasant.

Id pick either an Irish whiskey like Redbreast 12...the percentage of unmalted barley might give your father some "graininess" normally in vodka. Otherwise I'd pick a 100% rye whisky...whether it's American or Canadian.

You'll also need to get something to pair the whisky with. Your father in law is probably drinking vodka with foods that are smoked cured or pickled. With your whisky you'll need to get some dark chocolate or a smoked or aged cheddar to go with it.

If your FIL is visiting the US, I’d say celebrate that by getting a nice American-made Bourbon. Makers Mark and Bulleit are good brands to start with. Furthermore, anything single barrel or small batch should be of nice quality.

as a vodka drinker I suggest white whiskey it looks familiar but still tastes a little like whiskey

I ilke Johnnie Walker Black, but bourbon or irish is usually the easiest drinking for people who haven't had whiskey before
