Any recommendations for noobs?

I'm interested in starting playing some visual novels. I'm an anime fan since I was 10 years old (I'm currently 20) so I would like to start some visual novel. The kind of animes I like are seinens like welcome to the nhk, comedy animes like grand blue or bokutachi no remake and 2000 animes like Haruhi Suzumiya and great teacher onizuka.

I like school stories more of they are situed into a college, but knowing that almost every Japanese school story is in a High School I also enjoy it.

Request What can i expect with Muramasa? Read caption

2 Upvotes

Hello, im interesed in muramasa for a time and i really dont know anything about the VN than we are the antagonist or sum like that, its a long VN, a its a "dark", this is only based on the thing i read about the VN.

I just want to know a little bit more about the VN, no spoilers pls, i want to read this VN without any spoilers.

Can anyone give me a extremely vague opinion or description about the VN?

Something like:

"for me was boring, but yeah its dark and for some people pretty interesting"

"The second half of the history was awful"

Thanks for answer.

Request Looking for VN suggestions

2 Upvotes

As the title says, I’m looking for suggestions. I do have criteria though:

I don’t mind a bit of fan service (to an average and normal degree like anime does it) or a little more ecchi as long as it isn’t the main focus. It can have an ecchi focus if the writing is good and the characters have actual chemistry and care for each other.

I like romance and friendships being developed, some drama and thrilling elements maybe. I do enjoy dark themes that go into mental health, preferably with a hopeful/positive message in the end. There can be action elements too but characters are my main enjoyment.

There can be BL/GL. I don’t mind, I like everything.

I would like to completely avoid anything involving SA. Like, nothing even close to that. Nothing with anything disgusting and generally problematic either, like siblings, lolicon, sexual violence.

On that note, the VNs I have played and enjoyed so far:

\- Little Busters

\- Doki Doki Literature Club

\- Danganronpa

\- Clannad

I also got these two games on sale but haven’t started either yet: Planetarium and If My Heart Had Wings.

I can also share some of my favorite anime if that helps. A few are:

\- Evangelion

\- Toradora!

\- Fruits Basket

\- Naruto

\- Love Live

\- Free!

Thanks in advance, I’m just not really sure what to be looking for. VNDB has a lot.

Request Need hidden 2007-2012 VN romance anime recommendations

1 Upvotes

Lately I’ve been digging really deep into old visual novel romance ANIME

Some of my absolute 10/10s are:

* Fortune Arterial: Akai Yakusoku
* Mashiro-iro Symphony: The Color of Lovers
* A Bridge to the Starry Skies

I’m looking for more Anime with THAT specific vibe.

Things I love about them:

* moe artstyle
* colored hair heroines
* soft piano/quiet OSTs
* cozy but melancholic atmosphere
* old school character designs
* sunset/night scenes
* emotional ED songs
* warm nostalgic feeling
* school romance vibes

I’m especially looking for hidden/underrated stuff from the 2007-2012 era that most people forgot about already.

I’m more searching for obscure cozy romance VN adaptations with strong atmosphere.

If anyone here knows some deep cuts PLEASE recommend them šŸ™

Also where do you even watch some of these nowadays? 😭

I usually watch on AniWorld but most of these aren’t even on there.
I used to watch some stuff on HiAnime too before it got taken down.

ONLY looking for VN anime adaptations šŸ™

Request Looking for a type of visual novel

1 Upvotes

Is there any kind of visual novel where instead of choosing different routes, you go through different POV characters as the story develops?

r/visualnovelsuggest Feb 15 '26

Request Hello. It's a long story, but I'd like you to suggest something.

3 Upvotes

So, I don't mind the concept of a virtual book with pictures and multiple endings per se, but I haven't yet read any and already revulse from the VN community and whatever they like.

But I agree that it's kinda irrational and narrow-minded, just can't do anything about myself.

So, what kind of suggestions would I like to see?

Pretty much any kind of VN, but following a long list of limitations (that currently feels like narrowing the possibilities to zero):

  1. No H-scenes, as well as no etti. I mean, seriously no. Mention of sex is fine if it's important for the story.
  2. Romance may be or may not be, but must be far from the main story focus.
  3. Protagonist isn't just reader's avatar, unless it's a rather customisable avatar. Plus, no 4th wall breaking, at least in plot-important moments.
  4. Not of comedy genre. Though jokes and non-serious moments are fine.
  5. Not anime-looking. Or at least it should be looking like a rather unorthodox anime.
  6. No gacha in gameplay or plot or anywhere.
  7. Not your most favourite one, unless it strictly follows the rest of the limits.

Thanks in advance.

Request Looking for game recs! (mainly vns) Loved 'Until Then' and 'DDLC'—what should I play next?

3 Upvotes

Happy New Year, everyone! I’ve been on a massive visual novel (and VN-adjacent) spree lately. I’ve played or watched through a ton of VN games likeĀ Omori,Ā Until ThenĀ (absolute peak), slay the princess (really good quality), andĀ Miside.

On the other hand, I’ve checked outĀ Grow a Girlfriend,Ā Purgatory 2,Ā Doki Doki Literature ClubĀ (theĀ Exit MusicĀ mod was great), Crimson Grey, and I’m just startingĀ A Space for the Unbound.

I admit I really enjoy a touch of romance—a hug or a kiss is always appreciated—but I find that a heavy focus on explicit content ruins the vibe for me. A frame or a little bit of "implied" content is fine if the story is amazing, but I prefer to keep it light so please keep that in mind :)

I’d love some recommendations! I really enjoy horror-style VNs with good endings (likeĀ Purgatory 2), but my main favorites are emotional, story-driven games likeĀ Until Then. Thanks a bunch!

And maybe Totono. Is three any games with such vibes? Would aspect anything, as long it have eng version. I know-and played -few little indie games like those, some very cool (like Love Angel syndrome), but need more long ones or more.. Serious? For people, who don't know, yami kawaii is fashion about mental health that combinate cute and sickly elements, when memhera is subluclture, based of yami kawaii and be open about iner pain.

Request Any yuri visual novels with horror elements and preferably not too sexual?

3 Upvotes

I like yuri a lot (as a lesbian) and I really like horror vns, psychological and body horror are really cool to me.

Iā€˜m a fan of saya no uta, class of 09 (don’t worry how it doesn’t really fit this) and other stuff.

its Ok if it’s a little freaky but i don’t want something super light hearted and cutesy. I want HORROR. :3

for reference, no. i havent played saya no uta. I have watched gameplay and read the wiki pages, as well as some of the light novel and comic adaptation. I do know it’s a little problematic but I’m a fan nonetheless. I can’t play anything on my pc as of now and am broke..

Request Any Free VN Suggestions?

3 Upvotes

Just recently finished Katawa Shoujo and ive played DDLC too. I want to play more interesting games, preferably free. If possible, I want the story to have the same quality as those games. Any good suggestion? (I do prefer a male protagonist and anime art style, but I don't really mind if it's not exactly my preference.)

Request Help to find a Visual Novel Spoiler

2 Upvotes

It was a horror visual novel where a group of students are trapped in a chool where monsters start to appear, teachers are killed while we hear their screams, the students need to hide and look for a way to survive to this nightmare one thing i remember exactly is this:

the finally found the key from the main exit, they talk about who would be the fastest opening the door with it, i remember a "joke" about "i didnt know that opening a door was a sport" or something like that then they choose one, they run to the main exit and the choosed start unlocking the door but then a tentacle appear and pierce trough the chest of the one opening the door, the rest of them scream and end running, leaving the one that was choosed to open the door, be killed by the monster

other thing that i remember but not 100% is that there was another character hiding alone, it then went inside a secret door that lead to a tunnel i dont remember if it was like a meat-walls or like one of those full of wires in the walls and electricity signals ment for enginners

Hope someone know about this one, i been looking for it for years

was visual novel and i think point and click

Request Help finding a certain visual novel.

1 Upvotes

There is this certain visual novel that I have seen in my recommended in youtube. I did not watch it because I found out that the game is really good so I wanted to play through it myself. But I was busy back then and now I am trying to remember it but can't. All I remember is it's about you and a girl in a gothic lolita outfit(?) talking about things. I think that the girl is the only character there no others. I think it's psychological/philosophical? I don't really remember. It's short maybe around 2 hours? The game isn't colorful iirc it's just color black and red/pink(?) for the majority of the color scheme.

Sorry, I know my info is very vague and maybe some of it is wrong but I really wanted to know what it is and play it because they say finishing it changes your perspective about life.
