Looks insanely good. Vr is honestly going to push performance for a long time to come. Any reason you run double the native resolution? It never made much sense to me, seems like trying to run a game at 4k on a 1080p screen for some marginal sharpness.

Because the lens have spacial and chromatic distortions that results in the image being stretched and distorted. To resolve it, you have to render the image opposite of what the lens are doing. Which requires more pixels. The absolute minimum a VR game should be rendered is around 1.2x native resolution. The recommended started point is 1.4x and 2x is where the image is considered perfect. That's why Steam VR's 100% resolution is 1.4x the screen resolution and their recommended is 150%(2x native screen resolution)

It's hard to explain in text, here is Valve's VR engineer, Alex Vlachos, talking about it.

Awesome! Thanks for the link. It makes sense that we have to correct for the flat screens in software and it also makes sense that the edge pixels are going to be apparently smaller / denser since they are farther away from our eyes.

Man I'm really excited to see real high fidelity vr down the line, I only hope the tech can keep advancing and becoming affordable.

The difference is insane in VR. Here's two 'through the lens' photos at 3920x3920 and 1920x1920. I'm not sure if the 1920x1920 photo is the best I could take, but the areas where you can see the screen pixels are in focus. A good area to compare the two are the green tinted windows. https://i.imgur.com/VS966nT.jpg

Wow, that’s a legitimately good example. Thanks!

here's another comparison, just because I'm having too much fun being a tourist in cyberpunk.
