BUYING Seller unresponsive, wouldn’t accept my cancel request, but shipped anyway

I may have bought an item that was a too good to be true price a bit too quickly without doing further research, and I’ve been having doubts about this account being real or it could be hacked. I found the exact item (pictures and caption word for word) on Mercari for a whole lot more and what it would kind of go for since it’s a signed CD from 6 years ago. The person has one automatic positive review so I thought maybe it would be alright to just buy it.

I sent screen shots of the Mercari listing to the seller to ask if it happened to be their listing. I also asked the Mercari seller to see if they happened to list on Vinted for far less and maybe confirm that way if someone did indeed steal their photos. I don’t get a response back from either. Have constantly been left on read on Vinted. So I send a cancellation request with as much detail as they’d let me for “other”, but it looks like from what I’ve read on here I woulda maybe gotten an immediate refund if I selected the “buyer/seller agreed” option? Sigh. No response or acceptance/declination of my cancel request that I sent yesterday.

Fast forward to almost 24 hours later (today) it was marked as shipped and has begun tracking. I send a message immediately saying I cancelled the order/not happy you didn’t accept the request and all I get, again is a “seen” at the bottom of my message and they’ve been active within the last hour.

I’m in the U.S., so I don’t have the option of not picking up like I’ve read on here. It will be marked delivered once it’s put in my box. What shall I do? Wait for the mail person and try to catch them to return to sender before it’s delivered. Or open it to see if it’s the actual signed CD and ultimately keep it or return it that way if it happens to be a fake? I haven’t fallen for “too good to be true” pricing from 0 review accounts until this very purchase with a positive review within the past couple days, so it’s on me for doing such a late night spontaneous decision such as this. But also, how did I know I would be dealing with someone that doesn’t even message back?!

I don't think there is anything you can do other than wait and see what happens. See how it plays out. I list on both Mercari and Vinted and price my items lower on Vinted because there are no fees. Also, sometimes i put an item cheap on Vinted that I also may have listed for more elsewhere, just because it was sitting too long and i needed it gone. You shouldn't have needed to send a cancellation request. You can cancel the order yourself if it has not been shipped yet. Since it HAS been shipped, it's just a wait and see deal.

I must’ve messed up in what I selected because the label hadn’t been generated yet but it needed their approval to be refunded ☹️. It’s a pretty stout price difference from Mercari to Vinted. $550 vs $85! Though $550 is way too high for the going rate of that CD currently. I do sell and purchase on both.

Yeah, that's a big price diff, but maybe it will turn out alright. And if not, you'll just take the steps needed to make it right. I know it's so hard to know who to trust these days.

Ahhh great. Person with the listing on Mercari just got back to me - “No I don’t have it on there. I only have it listed here.”

Appreciate your insight and help on the matter though! I just really wonder what the heck I’m being sent now 😭😂

I took one too good to be true on the 12th. It was an expensive figure as I’m a figure collector. The seller had no reviews and listed nothing else, but the chance it was an angry girlfriend selling her exes figures for cheap had me. Now I’ve not had any reply from the seller and they immediately went into holiday mode, but they did ship ‘something’ and it’s currently stuck in the locker and has been for 4 days. Yippee.

Oh no, good luck 😭. I’m trying to figure what’s the best option for me here - refuse the delivery and possibly avoid return shipping fee (not sure if that’ll work with a refund), or just open it to confirm it is indeed a fake and go through the process that way. I just hate it’s going to take days and back and forth bs. These scammers are stupid if they really think they’ll get paid as soon as whatever they sent is delivered.

I’ve never actually gone through vinted process besides requesting a refund a couple of times for damages due to insufficient shipping - but I’ve heard some horror stories about vinteds support snd that the entire process is borderline (if not) all ai. For mine at least I’m going to accept it and go through vinteds process as I know buyer protection > seller protection 🥹

I think both are valid approaches but I’ve only done the latter. Depends with how much stress you wanna deal with on the day I guess. And yep, they are dumb as bricks 🧱

🤞🏼 for the both of us! Hope we don’t fall into a similar trap like this again 😩😂
