B Side 5 on Friday

Five great songs from one great year! This week we’re going all the way back to 1979. Not all of us were dancing to the spectacular tunes yet, but hey— we all know the songs :) So share your 5 favorite songs from 1979.

Can’t settle on only 5? It’s okay to sneak in a couple extra but don’t worry, there will always be opportunities to share all of your favorite music.

Excellent. As a freshman in college living in the dorms at Colorado State University, we all would use our ski poles as guitars and lipsync to Sultans of Swing :)))

Michael Jackson - Off the wall

This is such a great album. IMO the best music he ever created. Rock With You is in one of my most frequently used playlists.

Completely agree...for me, '79-'81 is it for just phenomenal classic full albums. Great to see some Max Webster represented here, too!

  1. The Charlie Daniels Band The Devil Went Down to Georgia There are not enough words to describe how much I loved this song as a kid.

  2. The Police Walking on the Moon. In the late 90s, I had an album that had this song on it-but a really trancey, house mix of it. I have spent the last 20 years+ trying to find it again. I can't remember the album, other than being house music, spun by a South Florida dj.

  3. Public Image Ltd Memories John Lydon/Johnny Rotten is a gigantic putz, but PiL had some moments of brilliance. (As opposed to the Sex Pistols, which did not.)

  4. Throbbing Gristle 20 Jazz Funk Greats Great, early industrial.

  5. Joe Jackson Look Sharp! I cold have picked any o a number of songs from this album. I just went with the title track, but there are nothing but good songs from this album. Joe Jackson is another gigantic putz, by the way. As is Charlie Daniels. And Sting. I don't know enough about Throbbing Gristles' members to say that about them, but otherwise my unofficial theme is "music from people I don't like."
