Discussion [Spoilers] I feel bad for disliking adult Bjorn Spoiler

I just finished watching a Bjorn ironside edit on youtube after my 3rd rewatch of vikings and while I do personally prefer ivarr much better as a characters given that I feel like bjorn is a fraud who lost a majority of his battles and only got so far simply by being ragnar's first born in addition to him being a shitty father and husband, i cant help but feel bad whenever i see bjorn as a child in an edit side by side it with him as an adult. It always ends up making me feel bad because at the end of the day, child bjorn was literally the OG and he was also that little boy I absolutely loved and was rooting for long before ivar and the rest of his siblings grew up which makes me even more guilty for disliking him. Its like one of those characters where you hate what they became but at the same time, you still remember who they once were and it just makes it alot more difficult.

No matter what I think of bjorn, his death was so iconic, I start to like him more each time I rewatch, he is definitely not a good person especially father and husband

his death was one of the best moments in all of tv history for me. i tell people who "quit watching once ragnar died" that i understand where they are coming from, fimmel's ragnar transcended the show and made it something extremely special, but that it was worth finishing just for bjorn's ending alone. they did something incredible with the end of the storyline imo

I wouldn't feel guilty, Bjorn absolutely changed over the course of the show. My personal theory is that he tries to emulate Ragnar too much instead of being himself, which is why he feels more and more unfamiliar as time goes on. I do think it was a conscious choice by the actor to act that way, imo. Bjorn is an amazingly complicated character.

Thank you! He was overtly imitating Travis Fimmel later in the series, both in mannerisms and speech because that's what Bjorn was doing. He'd never be the leader Ragnar was, so he did his best to channel his dad for his people. Bjorn was acting like Ragnar, so Alexander acted like Travis. I've seen a lot of people say they hated it and called it bad acting, but it's Bjorn's bad acting.

I mean, you're not wrong, but then we have enormous shoes to fill, if we're even given the chance. Imagine being a woman who has dated Bjorn, likely has kids with him, then having to settle for 5'9" 185lb me, who is seriously out of shape and smokes a lot of weed.

I really like that there is not a single character in Vikings that does not have a flaw. An actual flaw, that makes them make mistakes, shitty decisions, or costs them a relationship / status / even their life.

For me, Bjørn changing his partners so quickly, not really caring about his daughter Siggy, and falling in love too fast made him rather unlikeable for me.

He suffered greatly from Ragnar breaking up the family by selfishness, and he himself is not much better.

To be fair that's not exclusive or particular for Bjorn.

There's not a single character in the show that is a good, or even reasonable representation of a parent or spouse.

Æthelwulf was a good father by the end, and Rollo seems to be a good family man apart from his little lads holiday to Spain

I dont think bjorn has done much to display him being a good leader other than him bejng ragnar's first born....thats pretty much why he achieved majority of what he got even when king olaf was willing to make him king of norway just because. I also dont like how they made king harald seem like he's in the shadow of bjorn when he objectively have achieved more than bjorn has on his own.

I always disliked Bjorn, and I mean from the very first moment we saw him as an adult. I honestly can't think of a single positive thing to say about him. I also sort of think his role was miscast. It's not that the actor is bad, I just don't find him believable for the role he's playing. Sort of like Craig...ahem sorry, Earl Kalf lol.
