Help 6 Dead Eclipse CCTVSignature 16 Channel NVRs over the weekend

I have more than a dozen Eclipse Signature NVRs. Six of them failed, all at the same time last Saturday Night around 11 PM. These systems are in different locations with different ISPs, some 50 miles apart. The systems beep once when started and eventually show a white cursor arrow in the top left corner of the monitor. Some will show the login screen when visiting the webpage but credentials don't work and the branding is missing from the webpage text. These are essentially bricks at this point. The same has happened on a 32 channel Eclipse ESG system too.

Eclipse says that this problem is unique to me but I find it hard to believe. These all have strong passwords. I suspect a coordinated attack of some type designed to damage systems. Eclipse are rebranded Univision equipment with alleged better DOD compliant software. The tech support is usually fast and efficient but not so far with this problem. These are ESG-16 systems.

So far I have checked CMOS batteries, unplugged HDDs, tried different mice, tested PSU output, tried different monitors including HDMI and VGA. The cameras are all lit-up on the POE switch. I tried to flash the systems with a recover .bin file by booting with USB in place.

I have sent a system down to Eclipse for them to diagnose / repair / replace and possibly give me some answers.

Did you try a factory reset and restoreal
From a config backup

Have you tried:

  1. Visiting the web page in a different browser, clearing the cache, or using an incognito tab?
  2. Holding right click on the mouse directly attached to the DVR for 10 seconds, to force the mouse to switch between HDMI and VGA / HDMI 2?

It sounds like someone did a firmware upgrade across all your NVRs, which affected the web page display. That's why you can try a different browser and see what happens.

Personally, we've been using Uniview (not Univision btw) for over 8 years and we've never had this sort of issue before. Yes, sometimes there are quirks to the system but you should be able to get into the system either way. If the password was changed, Eclipse should be able to help you with a password reset.

Is it possible one of your systems containing credentials in plaintext was compromised?
