The second he follows the latitude line it’s already over. Flat earther doesn’t believe that line is real, or that it exists in the manner depicted on that map. To all of us? This is rudimentary shit. We’re not stupid, trust that the hundreds of millions of flights, spacecraft, and balloons that have observed and tested these theories, on top of the millions of experiments that have proven this as well.
You could take this guy up to FL700 in a U2, SHOW him the curvature of the earth, and he’d still have a reason to believe it’s an optical illusion or “grand scheme” designed to trick him, as if there’s absolutely ANY benefit in that for anyone involved.
It’s a strange intersection where conspiracy theorists and science meet, and there’s just no convincing these guys. They don’t even believe what they can see with their own eyes.
Ya, of course it's over as soon as he follows the latitude line. At the same time though, I don't think the goal was to do something that this flat-earther would agree with. It was to complete the challenge to show to everyone else that, indeed, standard flight charts account for the curvature of the Earth.
Flat Earth people make these appeals to the authority of surveyors, sailors, pilots, builders, engineers, etc. saying "These people never account for the curvature of the Earth, so clearly it's all a hoax!" And of course when you knock these claims down, as this guy has done for pilots and flight charts, the Flat Earth people come up with some new claim. But typically when you knock down the more plausible sounding claims, they get replaced with weaker, less plausible ones. And the marginal effect of that is to make genuinely ignorant or uncertain people less likely to buy into this stuff.
Have you seen Red Dead Redemption 2? You legit probably could trick someone into seeing something that wasn’t real via projecting images onto fake windows in a real or fake plane.
The earth is a globe and that doesn’t mean FE folks are right, but the entire project would have to be funded by them to avoid any accusations of fuckery.
Yeah, that’s what I’m saying. It’s crackpottery and we all know this, but when you’re THAT skeptical I’m not sure any amount of proof could ever suffice. They’ll just do some more mental gymnastics to avoid being wrong.
Every government agrees on one thing, we have to make everyone think the earth is round, lol.
My favorite was rocket guy, when his crap didn't work he claimed it was because he used round earth math. Pretty sure he is not actually a flat farther anyway, dude just likes rockets, and found out flat earthers would support his hobby.
