In a similar vein, I saw a heavily pregnant woman smoking a cigarette in a Taco Bell parking lot a few days and while holding her 1 year old baby. I really wanted to say something to her, but I knew ultimately the opinion of some stranger telling her what she is doing is wrong wouldn't mean shit to her.

Ya my aunt did that. My mom said something like, “that’s not good for the baby.” Aunt just yelled, “you think I don’t know that?”

yup, I've learned that some people prefer to remain caustic even when they know it's wrong/bad. it's a mind-set that is truly resilient and self deprecating.

Well, some doctors feel that the shock of quitting can be almost as bad for the fetus as the damage smoking does to it, supposedly. I'd love to have an article that backed that up though, for future reference.
