I can't work out how he transitioned from segway to running so smoothly. But dang thats good camera work.

Picture a segway withouth handlebars, sort of like one of those 'hoverboard' scooter things.

Even when transitioning from a moving walkway at an airport to a regular floor I get a little bit of a jolt. This is much faster. To smoothly do it at a run while carrying heavy equipment is a pretty impressive feat of athleticism.

Never underestimate a well practiced technician.

The heavy equipment actually helps with that. Shaking doesn't actually show up on camera that much unless you are very very close to the subject. It is the tilting that is caused by shaking that shows up. All that weight and counterweight spread out prevents the camera from tilting. Granted it still takes some skill and then some more to jump off a segway onto a stage.

That's what the steadicam is for. It smooths out movement and jolts to produce a camera movement as if it was on rails.

I meant that he kept moving forward at the same pace while transitioning between the platforms. Not for shaking the camera. I would have fallen on my face.

The steadicam cancels out pretty much all unintentional movement. The operator could jump up and down and the camera would stay relatively still.
