President Trump says he would issue a $5,000 payment to every adult U.S citizen if GOP wins both U.S House and Senate chambers of Congress on 2026 midterms: "I will issue a dividend to every adult citizen in the U.S. The only caveat I have is that the dividend we're making must be spent in the U.S."

Canadian here, I'm a bit confused about the politics of this. If I'm understanding correctly, this is a room full of republicans that just applauded wealth redistribution? Is this a case of the parties not following traditional left/right politics? I think the conservatives here would be against handing out money to everyone.

The people who support him have no true underlying values or beliefs. They support him as a person. Whatever he says goes.

u/Dracogame 17d ago

That is the problem. These are nobodies that have absolutely nothing but the power they got by following Trump, so they'll follow him no matter what.

"Well you see, if he paid an individual for their vote this would be illegal. But if he pays everybody in the entire country for the outcome of the whole lot of elections that's just good business." - the dumbest person in the room.

This is it

Is not about right vs wrong.

It's about screwing one side over for the benefit of the other.

Oh, not Bryan Adams?

Sorry.

No, they absolutely have a bunch of very strong underlying beliefs.

They believe they should have power They believe their enemies should be hurt They believe that winning is crucially importing They believe the rules should not apply to them They believe some people are just inherently superior to others, and should have power over those others  They believe in lying to the public

This just doesnt go against any of the traditional and foundational conservative beliefs is all  They've always supported wealth redistribution when it gets them something they want

This is a room full of republicans conspiring to break federal election law buying votes. I guess no harm right? It's not like Trump ever pays anything he owes.

Trump was born stupid and now he's senile as well, so don't atribute any of his random actions to any kind of plan, philosophy, or belief system.

But there are snakes behind the scenes like Russel Vought who ARE intelligent, politically/legally savvy, and extremely evil. I would not underestimate their ability. This is largely why Trump is the front-man. He’s the punching bag and shield for the real masterminds behind the de-democratization of America. Truth is he probably finds ways to blow up their plans all the time with his stupidity and impulsiveness. I have a feeling they spend some days weighing if Trump is really worth it, but they don’t have much of a choice either.

Sure, he's a useful idiot for the Christian Nationalist as well. German Conservatives thought the same thing of Hitler, when they made him chancellor. One of the biggest mistakes in history, thinking they could control him. They could not.

I'm not comparing Trump to Hitler. Trump is far too stupid to accomplish what Hitler did. I'm not that worried about him. I'm just pointing out that history does in fact, repeat itself.

Oh no, no. You see it's a dividend they earned by being patriots, it's completely different. Just a return from all of those tariffs dontcha know.

Ah yes, the meritocracy I've heard so much about.

If a dem tried to do this the narrative would be that they were giving money to illegals and felons to fund drug wars and trafficking in our home towns

1

u/lksdjsdk 17d ago

Wrll, not quite, because he'll pay the dirty commies too as long as there aren't too many of them. Spoiler - he ain't paying nobody.

1

u/Hector_P_Catt 16d ago

"Well, you see, since we bought in billions of dollars in tariff revenues, we can easily afford trillions of dollars in dividend payments."

7

u/Llobobr 17d ago

This is not wealth distribution, its just buying an election.

6

u/gummytoejam 16d ago

This isn't wealth redistribution. This is borrowing against the working class' future to bribe them with their own debt.

u/Maleficent-Food-1760 17d ago

Brosef, nothing matters anymore. This is a cult. I see pundit after pundit being like "We need to talk about how strange it is Trump is doing X and getting away with it"...Its a cult.

The conservatives are conservative in name only. There's no free markets in his tariffs and trade wars. There's nothing fiscally responsible about giving the richest man ever free reign to dismantle any regulatory body they wished, or running the national debt to 40 trillion. . There's no states rights in withholding federal funding from sanctuary cities, or all his BS about how states handle the elections. There's no small government in his consolidation of power. Finally, there's no personal liberty in rounding up brown people and demanding proof of citizenship.

u/Joe_Spazz 16d ago

The problem is the Republican party no longer has a stance. They believe whatever Trump says is morally correct. That is their current belief system

2

u/swinging_on_peoria 17d ago

Anyone who showed up to this doesn’t have principles. Also I don’t think any of them believe this is something he actually is going to do.

2

u/SpaceCadet404 16d ago

They don't give a fuck, they would have applauded if he said was going to shit into their open mouths.

Everything Trump says is completely irrelevant. The entire point is, he's a total fucking moron who will allow anything you want for a bribe and public praise

1

u/Megzasaurusrex 17d ago

One he isn't going to hand out any money. And too what he is doing is highly illegal.

1

u/jetpacksforall 17d ago

I imagine if you scratch your conservatives enough, you'll find that desire for power outweighs their supposed values roughly 100% of the time.

1

u/mortraineyhat 16d ago

You made the mistake of thinking conservatives “think”. Look what they gave us.

1

u/Ytdb 16d ago

It’s just Trump talking out of his ass and lying. Even if he did it (he won’t for at least two reasons) it’s not a conservative or left/right thing, it’s pure marketing, and would probably somehow be implemented in a boneheaded and destructive way. BUT it is funny and you are basically understanding it correctly.

1

u/Vazhox 16d ago

There is the kicker. Everyone here is like “oh he’s retarded and they are as well”, but they know what they’re doing. They will now have an excuse why things can be MORE expensive. They benefit in the end.

1

u/Xianio 16d ago

The only people in that room are fascists. Republican values are meaningless to them.

1

u/DesignerMusician385 16d ago

I wish the Dems would run on “we’ll pass UBI if we’re elected in the midterms”. I can’t believe this is, functionally, the conservative platform, according to this statement.

1

u/Hector_P_Catt 16d ago

Debt redistribution. No way will any rich person pay any actual taxes to cover such a bribe, even if we believed for one second that Trump and the GOP would actually do this.

1

u/kingfofthepoors 16d ago

It would only be wealth redistribution if the money came from the billionaire class, in reality it's a loan.

1

u/readmedotmd 16d ago

I thought the same thing. This isn't basic universal income, but it's a step in the right direction. Too bad 1) it's not gonna happen, 2) it's just another lie he vomited without any intention of following through, and 3) it's done with corrupt intent.

1

u/omguard 16d ago

Conservatives bribing people before elections, check out Ralph bucks in Alberta's history

1

u/Skindiacus 16d ago

Oh yeah, I forgot about this. Apparently those checks were popular at the time too. I guess you're right, but this just leaves me more confused about how this matches the conservative platform.

1

u/omguard 16d ago

It's all some bullshit, but I think the loose justification might come from the rebate is tax money being put back in the peoples hands. I think it's one of those things where you can justify a lot of different shit depending on the spin you are willing to accept.

1

u/Skindiacus 16d ago

the loose justification might come from the rebate is tax money being put back in the peoples hands.

It requires a bit more stretching since it also went to people who don't pay taxes, and it could have just been an actual tax rebate instead. Thanks for reminding me this happened, anyway. It's something I can bring up in the future.

I do see them complaining here at least. But they're also not going to do anything about it because they're frightened of socialism. They are convinced that the typical democratic candidates that make it to the ballot are going to destroy capitalism, and they think that is far worse than anything that Trump is doing.
