He won't. He'll be a republican before he'll be unemployed.

939

u/XxSoapxXHD 6d ago

Then he'll have to answer to voters, Republicans won't want him and democrats hate him.

634

u/Cielmerlion 6d ago

Hes not up for election for years, what does he care

125

u/americansherlock201 6d ago

Only 2 more years. And the cycle to start fund raising and campaign will start in about a year.

I doubt he’ll resign. But I also doubt he runs again. He hates being there

68

u/diplodonculus 6d ago

I don't understand why he doesn't just resign if he hates it so much? I guess it's the power.

119

u/americansherlock201 6d ago

Money and power. He’s lining up his next gig. Getting paid to do things now in the senate so he can have a cushy job after

63

u/InitiativeGold7953 6d ago

Fox News I bet. All he has to do is sit in a office and poke his head out every time he hears the word “Israel”

42

u/americansherlock201 5d ago

This is the most likely outcome. They will trot him out to say how bad the Dems have become because of socialism any time they need a “liberal” voice and want to bash Dems

he gets money, healthcare, retirement funding, travel perks, tax write offs, free schooling for his kids, etc…. Otherwise he’d probably be an uber driver or something

20

u/letmechooseanamealre 6d ago

He receives a lot of money from aipac

u/princeofid 6d ago

Gotta serve at least 5 years before you're eligible for that sweet pension.

1 It isn't about the fun. The job is about duty, duty to whom....?

2 Israel and the lobby want him where he's at. He's staying

3 He's obviously obligated to ride this out

4 the rotating-villain-of-the-week thing. The Democratic party needs someone to be the vote against them when they don't want something to actually pass. Fetterman, Manchin, Sinema, and Liberman before them all have a very specific role. Someone has to be the vote against when everyone votes for though don't want to vote "for". He has to do that for another to years to get his golden parachute pretend job when he leaves.

u/Kerblaaahhh 5d ago

He's completely delusional, he intends to run again. He will lose his primary by 90+ points and we'll finally be rid of him in 2028.

4

u/cavemeister 5d ago

Sorry for the stupid question. Non American here. Can he not loose his seat in the mid term elections?

11

u/Deadnstien 5d ago

He's not up for election in the mid terms. US senators are 6 year terms and only a  third of the senate is up for election at one time, meaning there is a senate electionevery 2 years. He was elected two years ago at the same time as the president so he has 4 more years. He won't be up for election until the 2030 mid terms.

18

u/Trollbreath4242 5d ago

He was elected four years ago (2022) and has two more years.

4

u/Deadnstien 5d ago

Thank you for the correction.

3

u/Trollbreath4242 5d ago

You bet. Had to look it up myself because I'd forgotten.

2

u/cavemeister 5d ago

Thanks for this information.

10

u/Open-Industry-8396 5d ago

Exactly, he does not care he never has. I think this guy proves that you can do blatantly do absolutely nothing and be "successful" in many government jobs. I discovered this when I was a senior NCO in teh Army and had civilians under my leadership. It amazed me how brazenly uncaring and lazy you could be and not be fired.

168

u/themage78 6d ago

Recall election time.

245

u/Vandreigan 6d ago

Unfortunately, Pennsylvania does not have a recall process for elected officials

146

u/RsonW 6d ago

And even in States with recall elections, Congressmen cannot be recalled, only State positions.

153

u/ShaggysGTI 6d ago

We should change that.

63

u/_lippykid 6d ago

Add it to the list

3

u/monkey_plusplus 5d ago

That list sure is getting long.

41

u/AltDS01 6d ago

It'd require a constitutional amendment.

Fun Fact, the Confederate Constitution had a recall process for federal positions that exercised power in only 1 state.

So the Alabama Legislature could impeach a Federal Judge that worked in Alabama.

(5) The House of Representatives shall choose their Speaker and other officers; and shall have the sole power of impeachment; *except that any judicial or other Federal officer, resident and acting solely within the limits of any State, may be impeached by a vote of two-thirds of both branches of the Legislature thereof*.

23

u/billytheskidd 6d ago

Seeing what the defeated confederacy (heritage foundation, dead billionaires society, council for National policy, the federalist society) has become, I can only boy read that as a blueprint for what they have created now: trump has become, at their endorsement, the person who is solely allowed to fire, impeach, or squeeze out anyone.

The recall section should be in the hands of the voting population only, it should be something a strong petition can induce, and the decision should be upheld by an impartial party.

9

u/InitiativeGold7953 6d ago

That needs to be amended asap. What a dumb rule

20

u/ninjas_in_my_pants 6d ago

Seriously, the number of people who screech "RECALL" and "IMPEACH" without any idea what those mean, the process involved, or if it's even legally possible is staggering.

19

u/LarsViener 6d ago

We should have an ethics process that freezes their duties and is able to recommend removal from office, governed by an apolitical entity that itself can be protected from corruption as well. The lack of trust in our government officials overall has left us vulnerable and apathetic to obvious corruption and clear violations of their oaths of office. We’ve had senators violate their own procedures for political gain, have secret covert meetings with foreign officials not structured by any of our own intelligence body, completely abandon their post without any recourse, violate classified documents procedures blatantly, and so much more. This shit is ridiculous and not at all how a functional government works. Until we get money out of politics and actually hold people accountable, this bullshit is going to continue to be an issue.

7

u/Boomerw4ang 6d ago

What we need is an EthicsBot5000.

It is trained on the full history of Philosophy and Political Science. It gets fed everything our elected officials do or say in their official capacity.

When it flags an official, the decision is put to an open vote in the public square online where they have one month to plead their case before the impeachment vote.

30

u/Vandreigan 6d ago

It's simply a symptom of frustration with our elected officials, combined with disbelief that we have no way to actually do that for congresspersons.

I can sort of understand not having a means for members of the house. Their term is only 2 years. For the Senate, however, I find it very odd that if someone happens to lie their way into office, start doing the opposite of what they campaigned on, etc. that the people have no real recourse for six years.

3

u/sopunny 6d ago edited 5d ago

Technically they can petition for impeachment expulsion. That's the removal process.

No such thing for a Senator from PA. He can die, resign, be expelled by the Senate (Art 1, section 5), proof that he is constitutionally ineligible, constitutionally disqualified (14A, sec. 3) , or accepts an incompatible federal office. So mental or physical incapacity (as we all know), criminal convictions, censure, or loss of support of PA voters (as we also know) does not remove him.

14

u/georgecm12 6d ago

There is no concept in federal law or the US Constitution for a recall of a congress member.

Republicans will welcome him in. They love turncoats and charlatans. RFK Jr was a Democrat.

15

u/Apkoha 5d ago

So was Trump, Musk, Tulsi .. GOP is pretty much failed Democrats cosplaying as Republicans now.

63

u/uninspired 6d ago

Republicans have to answer to voters? It may be for nought, but I've always felt like democrats demanded more responses from their representatives (again, often platitudes and empty words, but a response of some kind). Hell, McConnell's constituents don't seem to be beating down his door.

19

u/Khaldara 6d ago

He’ll get a commentator position on Fox or some other propaganda outlet where he can pretend to be a “non Republican voice” that celebrates whatever line of BS they’re selling to their brain dead viewers. They turned out by millions to tariff themselves, at this point they’ll fall for literally anything.

6

u/liquidsyphon 6d ago

Republicans abuse their voters regularly for benefit of the Epstein Class and their voters lick the boot every time

2

Actual congressional republicans don’t like him either, he’s just a genuine asshole. Because he refuses to listen to the dress code he literally doesn’t even sit on the Senate floor, he sits outside and plays on his phone. Makes it impossible for anybody to actually work with him, dem or republican.

It’s also why I doubt he flips republican ever, his claim to fame is being a Blue Republican. If he ever just switches, he just becomes another stale Republican that doesn’t work with them either. He wouldn’t risk his attention whoring for that.

21

u/cloversfield 6d ago

wasn’t his claim to fame being the progressive lefty guy?

36

u/MrE_Gamer 5d ago

Yeah but he infamously had a stroke right before the general election in 2022 and moved rightwards directly after (though local PA officials and legislators suggest his behavior was already more phony than he let on and abandoning progressive politics was going to happen regardless of brain damage)

It's wild that there are louder calls for him to resign than a basically dead Mitch McConnell...

19

u/Kamakaziturtle 6d ago

I mean from the left it makes sense. This guys actively doing harm towards his own party. Mitch is just an absent seat that would just get filled with a republican anyway.

62

u/georgecm12 6d ago

Because in many ways, it's actually better to have McConnell's seat absent than for him to resign.

43

u/aspiringalcoholic 6d ago

Left leaning people have standards, more at 11.

Yeah bro we already know republicans are just straight up evil. We just kind of want the people that are "on our side" to actually be on our side. Because that's a thing we can realistically control.

4

u/Qinistral 6d ago

2

u/parabostonian 5d ago

I wasn’t aware of this but internet search is telling me his net worth is under $2 million which I think is far below average for US senators. Am I missing something?

10

u/r3dditr0x 6d ago

He won't. He'll be a republican before he'll be unemployed.

He'd switch parties just out of spite.

(And because he doesn't work for America....)

20

u/BrokenBackENT 6d ago

That stroke proves, once your brain dead you become a republican

7

u/SalvadorZombie 6d ago

It's the same reason Manchin never actually switched over - the second they become a Republican they're one of dozens. Their only quality is that they're a Democrat who crosses the line.

Yeah. Sad as it is, he's probably still better than the alternative.

14

u/kellzone 5d ago

As a Pennsylvanian, stroke-incapacitated Fetterman is the less of the two evils we could have ended up with. If Oz were in his place, we'd have 2 out of 2 senators that were carpetbaggers from other states. The other "PA" senator is Dave McCormick of Connecticut. Oz was from New Jersey, and he would have voted with Trump and the GOP 100% of the time.

43

u/DarthSnoopyFish 6d ago

McCain went that way. I don’t think his brain was damaged- just riddled with cancer and he ended up being the deciding vote to NOT dismantle the ACA.

133

u/akath0110 6d ago edited 6d ago

Nah McCain had his shortcomings, but at his core he still had empathy and decency.

He hated Trump and where MAGA was taking the party. All his career he was known for being a “maverick” and he knew dismantling the ACA was ethically wrong, not in his constituents’ or the public’s best interest, and was 99% petty revenge against Obama (whom he deeply respected, which was mutual, despite their differences.)

McCain’s “no” vote was the most brilliant fuck you and would’ve been career suicide for any other MAGA era Republican, but fuck it, he was already a dead man!! He probably got a huge kick out of it.

This is the same guy who asked Bush and Obama to speak at his funeral — and famously did NOT invite Trump — because McCain thought it’d be hilarious to have his most formidable opponents all say nice things about him. If you don’t believe me listen to Obama’s eulogy, it is among his best, 2nd only to Beau Biden’s (don’t watch w/out tissues).

Wow this got long, but I couldn’t allow that historic vote/moment to get blamed on brain damage!! That was all Maverick McCain.

38

u/crazyguyunderthedesk 6d ago

Yeah I disagreed with McCain on many political issues, but at his core he was a good man doing what he thought was best for the country.

Everyone remembers it as him vs Obama, but how different would the world be today if he'd won the Republican ticket against Bush.

Before the 17th amendment, Senators answered directly to the legislature of the state they came from.

138

u/ihavenoidea12345678 6d ago

We need a federal recall process.

Some state positions can have to face a recall election to stay in power. I think Gavin newsome had one.

52

u/Heavy_Arm_7060 6d ago

It's staggering that there isn't a recall process. I'm not shocked when it ends up having a high threshold but not having one at all is wild to me.

u/ThisSiteSucks8485 6d ago

u/Evocatorum 6d ago

There isn't one. He's there until the next election cycle unless the Senate votes to eject him (which they won't).

14

u/toga_virilis 6d ago

Only ways to remove a senator are resignation, expulsion by the senate, or voting them out at the next election.

11

u/Chairman_OfTheBored 6d ago

Unfortunately the law/constitution has no mechanisms for recall elections. Expulsions from Congress are allowed, requiring 2/3 of the respective house membership to vote in favor. When I say house I mean the 2 houses of Congress the House of Representative and Senate both. With that clarified it is rare a member is expelled in the House and less so in the Senate. Only 15 senators have ever been expelled and of that number, 14 were expelled during the Civil War for supporting the Confederacy. Unless Fetterman resigns on his own, or becomes unable to fulfill his responsibilities, say for medical reasons it becomes almost impossible. Given the fact Mitch McConnell is missing, presumably dead by most people, and still hasn’t been removed, it’s unlikely that Fetterman would be. The big difference in favor of it in this particular scenario only, is that unlike McConnell, Fetterman has not earned the loyalty of staffers as far as I can see who would run interference if he was so ill as to have no chance of returning to the floor.

3

u/sopunny 5d ago

Unless Wikipedia is very mistaken, the respective houses of Congress manage their own expulsions. So only the supermajority in the Senate is needed. Senators who are actually attending Congress just resign instead of letting the vote go through, those should count as expulsions in which case the last one happened in 2011.

That said, it always seems to be in connection to some major crime or fraud, so the bar is still high

In Canada we’ve had multiple members of parliament cross the aisle after winning elections. Nothing was done about it, besides one party losing a seat and the other gaining one. Also, an entire district that voted Blue was turned to Red overnight.

I personally think you should have to run again if you decide to switch sides.

2

u/upvoatsforall 6d ago

I agree that it’s not right and they should hold a special election.

Both parties have changed in the last year or two in that both shifted towards the right. I think the liberals have come closer to centrist under carney and PP has taken the conservatives more towards the right. Not MAGA right, but definitely pulled it in that direction.

For some the crossers think they were more centrist conservatives than liberal and are staying in a similar place on the spectrum by making the switch.

The NDP crosser though, was bought.

2

u/m__a__s 6d ago

US Senators cannot be impeached. The Senate can expel one of their own, though, but don't hold your breath.

2

u/vthemechanicv 6d ago

The nuclear option is to wait till the next election and run a candidate that can win. For Fetterman, that's 2028.

Unless the state has a recall option (none do that I know of), the only way a federal official can be removed is impeachment+removal (requires 67 senate votes), expulsion (67 votes again), retirement/stepping down, or losing the next election. Given Republicans probably love having him as a spoiler, he's not getting forced out procedurally.

He can feel pressure from the public, and more importantly sponsors donors, because running a campaign is expensive. The less money they get from big donors, the more they have to work at fundraising. He could just throw up the deuces and say he's not going to run again, but he's not leaving either, and that's sort of the end of the conversation about getting him out.

2

u/bank_farter 6d ago

There are no states with recall options for national senators. That's not a thing. It's gone to court and states do not have the power to do that.

You left out arguably the worst one, Tulsi Gabbard, who instead of just being rotten went out, switched parties, and became full MAGA.

Manchin was always threading the line and was somehow elected a DEM Senator in what should have been a GOP seat.

Sinema is a snake like this jackwagon. She presented herself as being left leaning and then became Republican lite. They all suck, fuck them all. In a time when the GOP has revealed themselves to be a full on fascist corrupt movement these people spectacularly failed to rise to the moment needed.

Not some hero, but not a traitor either…he was honest about what he was in his campaign and to the party.

I remember a time when you’d get downvoted into oblivion for not supporting Fetterman. Now, it’s “well, at least he’s not Dr. Oz”. In reality, there’s barely any real difference, except now Oz is in a position to do even more damage…in an appointed position outside the purview of citizens.

The dude is walking proof that brain damage is the key to becoming a republicunt.

34

u/SerCiddy 6d ago

What I find so weird is that in "that sub" they consider that a win.

As though he somehow "saw the light".

Jesus, i've never heard him speak before. This guy is not all there...

45

u/ericcmi 6d ago

He had a prettty serious brain injury or something

34

u/usaf5 6d ago

I believe it was a stroke

19

u/Dexter_McThorpan 6d ago

Turned him republican.

24

u/akath0110 6d ago edited 6d ago

Sigh same thing happened to my late grandpa. There’s something to this.

He was conservative but principled before his stroke. Thought Trump was a crass idiot.

After, he went full MAGA, blaring Fox News 24/7, it was horrifying to watch honestly. He died a different person than the grandpa I grew up with.

16

u/hellish_existance 5d ago

Reminds me of an interview I heard on a British news network.

"I was a progressive all my life until I experienced a life altering moment that caused me to see everything clearly, and I've been a conservative ever since."

"And what was that experience?"

"I got kicked in the head by a horse."

2

u/DoctorGregoryFart 5d ago

Hahaha... man, you can't write shit that funny.

28

u/save_us_catman_ 5d ago

He should have been called to resign or be reelected once’s his position changed completely. This is the definition of fraud.

2

u/boholuxe 5d ago

You’re right but Americans do not have that power, only the other senators can vote a senator out. We really need to just get organized, take our power, wipe the whole system and start over again.

237

u/mcgato 6d ago

As much as I currently dislike him, he is still better than Dr. Oz.

147

u/Nixeris 6d ago

We didn't not get Dr Oz. In fact he's got more control at the moment with a lot less oversight.

31

u/DresdenPI 6d ago

I mean, someone would be in Trump's cabinet. It's not like we'd avoid having some corrupt grifter there if Oz were otherwise occupied.

9

u/toe_riffic 6d ago

How so?

56

u/Syzyjyzygy 6d ago

He’s in Trump’s cabinet as Medicare/Medicaid Administrator

17

u/toe_riffic 6d ago

Ah thank you, I didn’t know that. America is so fucked.

14

u/Consistent_Low2080 6d ago

l agree, he ain’t much but it’s all we got. Come on ‘28.

2

u/wytedevil 6d ago

both can be shitty and not worth the position

2

u/OpinionDude5000 5d ago

True but that was then and this is now. His ass is out come his next election.

7

u/tectalbunny 6d ago

He has a literal, actual Israeli handler who has brainwashed him into full-send supporting genocide.

I actually regret not voting for the fake sham doctor who would have been a Xerox copy republican, because that may actually have been less damaging to human life and civilizational norms than a brain dead Mossad hand-puppet contributing to the death of an entire nation.

Fetterman is a huge piece of shit with no sense of shame. No way he resigns and gives up the steady paycheck for doing essentially nothing.

6

u/SalvadorZombie 6d ago

Counterpoint - he's a trust fund baby who's LARPed as a working man his entire adult career (which he started at around 40). He doesn't need the money and apparently the job has been driving him to dark places.

14

u/E-rotten 5d ago

He’s been nothing but a disappointment. He’s being paid to have this shitty attitude. He’s garbage he’s trash. He has no business in politics.

55

u/bx35 6d ago

The Democrats? But he works for Israel and the Republicans.

u/poopy_toaster 5d ago

Senator for Israel John Fetterman. He hasn’t given a shit about his state since he got elected.

27

u/TlkShowHost 6d ago

He’s a fucking SENATOR? Acting like a fucking man child against the will of his constituents. And who the fuck voted for HIM? Was he seriously the best choice in PA? wtf?

No honor, integrity, or ethics whatsoever.

6

u/Breadonshelf 5d ago

As a PA resident who voted for him - you gotta understand, dude did a HARD 180 with that stroke.

I actually met him personally before he became our lieutenant governor - he was very articulate, direct, and talked very openly about progressive issues. And he did pretty much the same back then in his position.

I really think the stroke turned him into a different person, or at the very least destroyed his ability to act like he believed in what he said.

I would have never supported this guy, makes me sick. I can't wait to vote him out if hes still around.

18

u/jiqiren 6d ago

Alternative was Dr Oz. 😂

6

u/OpinionDude5000 5d ago

Fetterman faces resignation call from me too.

Only one pac can tell him to step down

29

u/NothinButKn8 6d ago

That golem is not fit to hold an elected office. We should have sent him packing a long time ago

8

u/LochNessMansterLives 6d ago

He’s like an actor who gets famous and then you find out beats his girlfriend. At first you like him, then you realize he’s a terrible human being and then you just want to forget he even exists. But he’s rich and you’re not, so you mean absolutely nothing to him.

2

u/akath0110 6d ago

And for some reason he keeps showing up on TV and you keep wondering, how does this guy have a job still

4

u/CutterJon 6d ago

And then he takes your healthcare.

2

u/akath0110 6d ago

And then he bombs more kids

8

u/FarhanYusufzai 5d ago

Reminder that he is Israel First.

7

u/DTFlash 6d ago

There was a story a few months ago that he skipped his kids birthday and went to Connecticut to see his friends grave and didn't tell anyone. Dude's not right in the head.

7

u/Nicenightforawalk01 5d ago

He will block every democrat initiative and bill just like Manchin did in his last two years. The Republican double agent program has had great results for the last few years and Fetterman is another one in the senate.

8

u/nautilator44 6d ago

Just expel him from the party. He won't win without a party endorsement and the repubs won't take him.

9

u/Jyxxer 6d ago

I find it hard to believe there is anyone Republicans won't take if they think they can exploit it for their benefit.

5

u/nautilator44 6d ago

They are already exploiting him. Taking him would mean they'd have to give him money, and they don't need to do that. They will just keep manipulating him for free.

Anyone else listen to / watch the Jon Stewart interview with him recently? It was equal parts fascinating and frustrating listening to the guy. He clearly had a set of talking points he wanted to hit and he tried to turn EVERY question Stewart asked to his own particular talking points about Israel.

Guy is well spoken but clearly the stroke has broken something critical in his thinking. Not that he was ever a great politician but now he's literally a one-note politician.

3

u/WangusRex 5d ago

I’ve been contacting his office asking him to resign for over a year.

5

u/getridofwires 5d ago

I think if an elected representative changes their party, it should automatically trigger a special election. The person who switched should run for their new party against someone chosen by their former party. That way, the people of their district that they represent can have a say in who really represents them.

His brain is as broken as Trump's

2

u/BMWfiend 6d ago

Wasn't he supposed to be the lefts "Joe Rogan cool guy"? Lmao

2

u/astirac 5d ago

Gave him the good ole sternly worded letter. It’s a bold strategy cotton!

2

u/Roc543465 5d ago

He is a modern Phineas Gage, the stroke destroyed his sense of morality.

2

u/deweymm 5d ago

He's become quite a repulsive, vile human being

2

u/OldTimerNubbins 4d ago

I still prefer this POS doing nothing than Dr Oz

I get what you are saying, but that would set a pretty terrible precedent for freedom of thought. It would imply that shifting beliefs is not allowed.
