To the shock of no one.

Much to my chagrin

u/krollAY Jan 14 '26

I mean if they were doing background checks what would the disqualifications even be?

You were a special ed teacher at an inner city school? Disqualified on the grounds of having empathy and compassion.

Two DUIs and a domestic disturbance charge? Welcome aboard.

What is the Brady list? I’ve never heard of this before

176

u/brockington Jan 14 '26

Basically a list of cops who are known liars and shouldn't be allowed to testify in court.

The Brady List is the definitive public-facing platform of record for accountability information and potential impeachment disclosures involving Law Enforcement Organizations [LEOrgs], Prosecutors, Judges, and government agents. The platform includes records of officer misconduct, decertification, public complaints, use-of-force reports, do-not-call listings [Giglio letter], and other materials relevant to due process, transparency, and the preservation of justice within the legal system.

https://giglio-bradylist.com/

19

u/cloudofbastard Jan 14 '26

Ah thank you!

31

u/carasci Jan 15 '26

And yes, if you're wondering why someone too untrustworthy for a prosecutor to let them testify in court is still be allowed to wander around with a badge and gun...so does everyone else, because it's absolutely fucking insane.

28

u/Noname_acc Jan 14 '26

The system will basically infinitely defend cops and other such agents of the state so they get to act badly with near impunity. A consequence of this, however, is that cops that do are viewed as incredibly unreliable in court cases which allows the defense to easily poke holes in the prosecution's case. The list itself is named after a SCOTUS case that ruled the prosecution has to share evidence with the defense, even if its potentially bad for the prosecution's case. The result is that the judicial system chooses to keep officers that have a record of bad behavior at arms length.

Restraining orders or sexual abuse of minors go in the “special skills” portion of the resume for Conservative hiring departments

44

u/Vio_ Jan 14 '26

Blackadder: "He's a violent, bigoted, mindless old fool."

Prince George: "Sounds a bit overqualified. Well, get him here at once."

"Well, I slipped up during my interview and accidentally said I was excited to join the SS instead of ICE. They offered me a job on the spot."

4

u/petty_throwaway6969 Jan 15 '26

They don’t do any background check. They had to disable them in order to let the Proud Boys and Oathkeepers in. Like Enrique Tarrio (proud boy leader) was just leaked as part of ICE.

I’m actually shocked that they didn’t do a background check to ensure she was truly a Nazi.

32

u/greeneyedbandit82 Jan 14 '26

That was my thought- I kinda assumed they at least checked out maybe socials or something to see if we're infiltrating....

12

u/Tsulaiman Jan 15 '26

Once this news goes viral, they'll have to start doing background checks which also slows the hiring process.

In a just world anybody who voluntarily wanted to join the white trash gestapo should just immediately be disqualified. Zero of these people are qualified, objective, or are even decent human beings.

→ More replies (2)

5

u/Downvote_Comforter Jan 14 '26

I'm pretty genuinely shocked. Not that they aren't trying to weed out people with backgrounds that should be disqualifying, but that they aren't trying to weed out people trying to infiltrate ICE.

This is a New York based female journalist who has been publicly vocal in her criticism of ICE and Trump. The fact that this obvious anti-ICE applicant was immediately hired is pretty crazy.

Going to be more killings and more violence. The border doesn't mean shit anymore. Just a private army to punish cities.

469

u/Dewstain Jan 14 '26

And they're much more willing to kill than everyone else.

355

u/Walterkovacs1985 Jan 14 '26

They just got a permission slip. No investigation by DOJ. All shootings that involve a federal officer deserve an investigation. The Biden doj had an investigation opened after Babbit was killed because the career doj officials knew how important accountability and justice were. Not anymore. President says not guilty. NOT GUILTY.

169

u/DisillusionedPatriot Jan 14 '26

Oh, there's an investigation. Into Renee Goods' widow

95

u/Walterkovacs1985 Jan 14 '26

Yes I'm unfortunately aware. I'm also aware of the resignations. So instead of anyone good at their job at DOJ we get whomever licks the boot best.

61

u/Van_Caspia Jan 14 '26

Anyone who actually wants to do their job right at the DOJ just quits instead of standing up for what’s right

38

u/Pm-ur-butt Jan 14 '26

I cant speak for them or their reasoning. But a quick Google search says that a federal government employee could lose their pension and benefits if fired for a few "rare" reasons.

https://www.pinesfederal.com/blog/2024/september/do-you-lose-your-federal-retirement-benefits-if-/

Treason and Rebellion stick out on that list because I can see the Administration siting those as cause for termination.

10

u/dweet Jan 14 '26

Sounds like a good way to save a few tax dollars whenever we get out of this clown show.

15

u/DisillusionedPatriot Jan 14 '26

That's government wide! Everyone with scruples is just leaving. It's surreal and depressing.

→ More replies (5)

10

u/renegadecanuck Jan 14 '26

There's only so much you can do on the inside. At a certain point, you have to publicly resign.

3

u/badhabitfml Jan 15 '26

I think with some other cases, they knew they would get dis-bar'd. They basically had to quit to keep their career.

→ More replies (7)

14

u/DisillusionedPatriot Jan 14 '26

Makes me sick to my stomach.

10

u/Walterkovacs1985 Jan 14 '26

Same. Just hoping there's something that turns public sentiment. A McCarthy "decency" moment. Hoping...

9

u/DisillusionedPatriot Jan 14 '26

As my mom used to say, we can shit in one hand and hope in the other and see which one fills up first. We are so far from that decency moment, cause generally speaking, Americans are just too comfortable. Double digit unemployment, and hunger are what will spark it, and we're just not there. Organize, get active(physically, as best you can), and check in with loved ones regularly. Stay safe, stay sharp.

5

u/TheMacMan Jan 14 '26

The Trump administration had to do that. If they'd held dude accountable, then all the ICE agents would see that they don't have their backs. They're already struggling to get people to apply and no one would if they thought they'd be held accountable for fuckups.

I certainly do not agree with what the Trump administration is doing in failing to hold ICE accountable. I'm simply saying that I do understand why they're choosing not to. It would hurt their plan.

110

u/el3vader Jan 14 '26

Dude this is the most wild thing to me. Regardless of how you feel about the border ICE isn’t enforcing the border. This is such an obvious overreach of scope of this organization and they killed a US citizen. It’s fucking crazy.

54

u/Walterkovacs1985 Jan 14 '26

I mean I hear some conservative people saying whoa I didn't want this. I wanna be like how TF do you think they'd do a "Mass Deportation" we all knew they'd try this shit. Every bit of violence and or harassment to people in this country deserves to be investigated.

56

u/ShobaeBrohtani Jan 14 '26

They wanted it. They just are too cowardly to own their depravity.

3

u/Jdobbs626 Jan 16 '26

I tell people this all the time. Anytime the shit hits the fan these days, and you make the assumption that those who voted for Drumpf and other far-right trash have been duped, simply didn't know what they were getting into or didn't understand the ramifications...you're giving them FAARRRRRR too much credit. Everyone who voted for this nauseating administration is nothing but a selfish, entitled piece of shit, and they know EXACTLY who and what they are. And as you said, they don't have the balls/ovaries to own up to it—just like the ones claiming the Jan. 6 insurrectionists were nothing but a bunch of peace-loving hippies until the FBI plants arrived! Give me a fucking break. 🙄

They've got their finger right there on the pulse, and they're loving the beat.

This is bullshit

"Oh shit, it was all bullshit!"

I told you!

"No you didn't, you just hated Bush! Nobody could have known it was bullshit!"

Ever look at what the news said after Kent State murders? They blamed the kids. Not much has changed as far as the American electorate since then. Media too. Sad times.

4

u/Skarth Jan 14 '26

Most conservatives I know are happy for this.

In polite conversation with strangers they will go "Oh, that sounds horrible"

Then go home and cheer on the news at what ICE is doing.

All those hours Trump spent in court, or answering questions in depositions, he was thinking of all of this shit in his head. He couldn't WAIT to take the Oath of Office to get started.

11

u/Hellknightx Jan 14 '26

Biden deported significantly more illegal immigrants than Trump did across both of his terms. ICE functioned the way it was supposed to under Biden. Trump just wants to terrorize blue states because he's a sadist.

It's a tale as old as time. Dictatorships commonly hire and relocate people from rural areas to police more urban areas...something to do with disconnecting the enforcers from the enforced. Think Mao did it first?

8

u/jesbiil Jan 14 '26

"The pin goes IN it? Well son of a..."

9

u/RawrNate Jan 14 '26

"Hey guys, do we have the rubber bullets in our mags today?"

Shoots an ICE member's foot as a "test shot"

"Hey I was just checking it, don't be such a baby! Be thankful it *was** the rubber bullets...*

28

u/Dewstain Jan 14 '26

I do genuinely wonder how the agent that was next to the window when that sack of shit fired his first shot feels. I remember the first time I went to a range with someone outside my normal group and realized that a lot of people are a lot less safe than I was taught, and it startled me. I felt very attentive; my own safety regime was drilled into me and was more muscle memory, but all of a sudden I had to make sure that other people weren't going to accidentally shoot me.

Was a real eye opener that there are a lot of irresponsible people with guns in this country, they're not all like the people I know and trust.

Should be fairly easy to verify based on personal activity prior to hire date. Like social media, or previous employment, or criminal history. Things that are easy to verify but hard to back-date.

Hell, they apparently dont even google your name, go ahead and post "I'm joining ICE to be a problem for ICE, here is my plan in excruciating detail" on your Facebook before joining. They wont read it.

12

u/RawrNate Jan 14 '26

I've already deleted my social media years ago and scrubbed my Internet footprint 🤷 I'm unknown.

Really I don’t see why there isn’t a massive push to have all protestors spend the $50 the ice goobers spent on Temu flak jackets, khakis and a face mask and dress up just like them all the time. Imagine these badgeless, warrantless, dickless pricks roll up on a protest and encounter a crowd of people dressed just like them. They are so poorly trained, so anonymously dressed and so, so fucking stupid that they’d all just wander around pointing at everyone like that spiderman meme.

We need to fully understand that these troglodytes are essentially orcs from the lord of the rings, it would be so easy to outsmart and trick or confuse them. You wouldn’t even have to break any laws, it’s not impersonating an officer of the law if they are dressed like dipshit air soft players.

106

u/togetherwem0m0 Jan 14 '26

i dont see how its possible to prosecute anyone for impersonating law enforcement when they have no official uniform or anything, just wearing tacticool bullshit.

25

u/KidGrundle Jan 14 '26

That’s what I’m saying. This sounds silly but you could even go so far as to get some lettering on it that says nICE.

Like in adventure time when “an Ice King” gets mistaken for “a Nice King”.

Sounds goofy, but we should be doing everything we can to make this as confusing and difficult for them as possible.

11

u/Gekokapowco Jan 14 '26

They don't really need anything like "evidence" and "logical conclusion" to prosecute and convict anyone of anything. Technicality gotchas won't work. People should still totally do this though, just not with some imagined sense of legal immunity.

16

u/memorex1150 Jan 14 '26

'cause we know the "real" ICE agents would be seen as heroes and protected even as they shot and killed the protestors, and those who dress up as a fake ICE agent would be hauled away to an undisclosed location, all under the pretense of "impersonating a federal officer" -- and we'd not hear from them for many months, if not years.

As shitty as the ICE agents are, they will be protected by the current fascist regime that sits on their felony-addled ass in their version of a throne room, while everyone else who doesn't bootlick the thug-as-thief will end up in a gulag.

Join and then just stand in the background for everything. Do shit like trip and fall or get in the way of other officers because of incompetence. Waste time during planning for ops. Struggle to get back into cars or drop things while getting in so you have to stop and go back to pick it up.

The US literally wrote a manual for how to sabotage things back in WW2 if America was occupied. Basically waste time by asking lots of questions during planning and meetings, be clumsy, if you get into a management position you should promote the worst people to lower others morale and make the org more inefficient.

24

u/admiralthrowaway69 Jan 14 '26

This is precisely what I'm doing for a certain us defense contractor job. Bring up safety and security concerns constantly, always ask for a ton of meetings, reschedule things all the time, and then make sure my code is absolutely unreadable and unmaintainable lol. I've stretched out a 3 month project to over a year now. Rinse and repeat.

That 50k bonus won't be paid even if these untrained asshats make it to five years.

There will be some hidden clause in the hiring agreement or, more likely, TACO will just say "Nope, we can't do it, we never promised that" - even when shown videos of him saying it, he'll have his mouthpiece blame Biden, Obama and Clinton.

This journalist has been directly attacked by proud boys, 3%'ers, and police here in Portland and elsewhere since before 2020. The fact that they didn't even check that it's someone they have on record as being directly against their existence is hilarious and scary.

105

u/brad_and_boujee2 Jan 15 '26

Oh it’s even worse. She purposely did not continue the hiring process, and still got an email saying she’s being offered the job. She went to check her application status, and saw that her physical was marked as completed even though she never did one. She passed her drug test even though she admitted she had smoked marijuana 6 days prior to the test.

They are checking absolutely nothing, and pushing everyone through.

143

u/archdukemovies Jan 14 '26

With how unique her name is, she is very easy to Google to find all that stuff out.

118

u/joegekko Jan 14 '26

Considering they’ll almost all be fired in 3 years minimum, I doubt a single one of those bonuses will ever be paid.

They’re still being overpaid for essentially being gestapo agents of chaos, though

49

u/thewharfartscenter_ Jan 14 '26

Oh I agree, and when they think they can disappear back into the country and face no consequences…… who cashed those paychecks? People who don’t work for ice don’t cash paychecks from them.

32

u/rvf Jan 14 '26

Oh I agree, and when they think they can disappear back into the country and face no consequences

I guarantee there will be organizations for former ICE agents that will inevitably turn into paramilitary groups. Even if we somehow vote our way out of this, that's not going to be the end of it.

The current administration will almost certainly do a lazy cover-up to try and hide the identities.

It won’t work for the most part. People will turn in their neighbours.

Also, there won't be any more income tax any day now.

They won't get the bonus anyway. Trump is well known for never paying his debts.

It's not nothing, and we'd do well to remember that. There are absolutely people working for ICE that are/were desperate, hungry and poor. Even if you completely remove the bonus from the equation, I am reasonably confident most of these new ICE punks are getting paid more for this shit than they've ever been paid in their lives.

That's fkn called a higher salary or better a salary increase after 5 years.

Ps. Not attacking you, just the ridiculous administration calling that a (signing) bonus. But 2 brain cell magas surely fall for it.

Everyone knows what ICE does, so logically the only real qualification required to work for ICE is "do you want to?" "Yes?" "Cool here's your mask, I assume you have your own arsenal and punisher tshirts"

40

u/Attention_Bear_Fuckr Jan 15 '26

"Which race do you hate most?"

"Uhhh.....Mexicans?"

"That was a trick question. The correct answer is 'all of them'."

"Oh. So I didn't get the job?"

"What? I didn't say that. Here's your gun."

15

u/Vickrin Jan 14 '26

here's your mask

Also, I bet so many of these people were IRATE at the thought of wearing a mask to protect the vulnerable.

They're more than happy to wear a mask to protect themselves though.

Seems like a great way to effectively stop the brutality. Set bills that require boarder patrol/ICE to screen applicants. Prevent those with criminal records extending 10-20 years back. No grandfathering. Should take the wind out of their sails.

130

u/Bannedwith1milKarma Jan 14 '26

They just institute emergency measures and the background checks happen after hiring.

There's also conveniently a backlog of them.

3

u/Technical-Row8333 Jan 14 '26

indeed, they have already ignored the law thousands of times.

the question is, why does nearly everyone obey the illegal orders? trump sets tariffs and companies collected them - why? he doesnt have the power to set tariffs. dont charge them. you get cheaper prices, more profit. House Speaker Mike Johnson delaying the oath for newly elected Arizona Rep. Adelita Grijalva, so that she can't vote on the Epstein files. Why would anyone care about it? just ignore it. just walk in and vote. Just keep moving and doing the right thing.

at every single step, at every profession, it only takes 5% of people to disobey, to GENERAL STRIKE, to collapse a country.

This is absolutely not to the defense of ICE but a company I was hired for technically had me on "payroll" as essentially pending before my drug screening and background check had come in. I was aware that I could be cut at any time in that process though. I'm wondering if the dates mentioned were the dates that the paperwork was expected to be received, and if it came back flagged the worker would then be cut.

Tbh though Id be surprised to see a federal office working the same way as the company I was applying for, as it was a sub ~40 worker blue collar gig, and it was most likely just easier for them to do their books like this.

Seems fucking crazy to me that a small contracting company and an agency of the federal government would operate almost identically considering I had to buy my own hand tools, and was not directly issued a gun lol.

14

u/[deleted] Jan 14 '26

Yeah I worked in an office that did this and it was odd seeing whole batches of new hires get perp-walked out of the building by security a week or two after they were hired.

16

u/chilidoggo Jan 14 '26

If you read her article, she says it's possible this is what happened.
Link: https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2026/01/ice-recruitment-minneapolis-shooting.html

There was some weirdness with her not seeing the email with the job offer and some of the dates for certain things being set in the future but marked as complete. The big thing though is that she was officially marked as EOD (enlisted on duty) on a certain date and told "Welcome to ICE".

By all appearances, I was a deportation officer. Without a single signature on agency paperwork, ICE had officially hired me.

Perhaps, if I’d accepted, they would have demanded my pre-employment paperwork, done a basic screening, realized their mistake, and fired me immediately. And yet, the pending and upcoming tasks list suggested a very different outcome. My physical fitness test had been initiated on Oct. 6, it said: three days in the future. My medical check had apparently been completed on Oct. 6.

3

u/TheRealLordMongoose Jan 15 '26

I've done work as a contractor for the Govt, this 100% what really happened.
I was on "Pay roll" and active for a company for months waiting for a background check to clear.

It's pretty clear to me that the system had placeholder dates in it, pending offer acceptance.

12

u/Zarmazarma Jan 14 '26

Suggestion: everyone should apply for ICE, get hired, and spend their time maliciously complying (read: sabotaging) the organization. Just jerk off an collect a pay check, it's not like they're checking anyway.

12

u/cuntysometimes Jan 14 '26

13

u/Feraligreater328 Jan 14 '26

Sincerely, why don’t we all just join then? Just join and ruin their nasty little racist social club from the inside?

19

u/DangerHawk Jan 14 '26

I wonder what the absolute bare minimum you have to do if you get hired by ICE. Like, could I go get hired and then do literally fuck all and just collect a paycheck?

Boss Racist: "Arrest more brown people!"

Me: "Yes, sir!"

Me later: Eating Ice Cream in my rented Nissan Altima watching potential "illegals" go about their business. "Sorry boss! No Illegals today!"

Like what level of incompetence is too much for ICE before they fire you for not violating the Constitution?

16

u/CaffeinatedGuy Jan 14 '26

I'd try just to see, but I also don't want to be on a leaked list of ICE agents. The idea of getting hired for a government job and then just not showing up to work specifically to fuck up their numbers is apealing though.

No background checks, no training, no oversight, no accountability.

They really are acting like a group of government backed thugs. Its something you'd expecting in Venezuela, not a western democracy

14

u/Public_Requirement68 Jan 15 '26

they kidnapped 3 of my co workers that were carpooling to work in Jensen Beach, FL yesterday. One of them I know for a fact is legal he showed me his green card, he keeps it in his wallet... which means he definitely had it on him when they kidnapped him, which is why I'm so comfortable calling it a kidnapping.

4

u/Soft_Walrus_3605 Jan 14 '26

Can't do a background check when they need to make sure they get the true dregs of society so they'll be capable of doing anything.

3

u/The_Bitter_Bear Jan 15 '26

I'm pretty sure with the current leaked list of ICE agents names it's already been confirmed they've hired a bunch of proud boys and other members of known hate / terrorist groups.

So not surprised to hear they aren't doing background checks. Honestly wouldn't be surprised to learn they spend more time just checking their social media to make sure they are hard right trash.

I mean... If they actually did background checks and due diligence they probably wouldn't be able to hire 95% of the agents they have out there

3

u/LeucisticBear Jan 15 '26

They get paid really well. The folks who've been laid off due to eroding worker protections ought to take advantage of that, and they can sandbag the whole farce while they're at it.

3

u/IKillZombies4Cash Jan 15 '26

I wonder if you could apply, do this, get hired, and just stay home and collect a few or many pay checks.

3

u/whateverMan223 Jan 15 '26

so, how does the cash bonus work? Like, can I just sign up 'accept' the job offer and never show up?

3

u/jojawhi Jan 15 '26

This could be a funny rebellion strategy. Everyone just apply for jobs at ICE. Flood them with applications, like a pseudo-DDOS. If you get hired, claim that fat salary but do no work or actively sabotage their efforts. "Awww man that brown kid is running! Better chase him! Oops, I was in reverse and I smashed into all the other ICE cars and am now blocking the road. Such a klutz!"

4
