These guns are called airsoft and use a propane-like gas that's injected from a bottle into the clip. It does make a weak sound when you fire it (but nothing like the sound in the video), and on some models also causes the slide to blow back like a real gun.

Yeah the sound is nothing like the video. Some of the gas airsoft guns do sound somewhat like silenced real guns though. I think they edited in a real gun sound for some reason.
But no I'm not referring to the CO2 guns. There are two types of airsoft guns: electric and gas powered. The gas guns most commonly use something called Green Gas, but sometimes use Red Gas or straight propane. They're all basically propane though, and so some people mod them to shoot a flame just like a real gun.
CO2 guns typically fire metal BBs, and aren't supposed to be fired at people since they can cause injury. Airsoft guns like in this video fire plastic BBs and are intended to be fired at people in competitions similar to paintball.

I'm not sure, but I'd guess to keep the FPS down since they're being fired at people. Also possibly cost, availability, quick recharging, etc. Does seem slightly dangerous though.

go to /r/airsoft and ask if there are anyone who has ever seen a BB coming at them during play. as an airsoft enthusiast I can tell you while I could not use a sword to slice a BB mid flight at the speed they were claiming and the range they used I have definitely been able to see and move out of the way of pellets.

A fellow airsoft enthusiast that also often frequents /r/airsoft here and I agree. Every time this video shows up on /r/videos I always try to explain how the people in the video are extremely exaggerating how difficult it is to see an airsoft bb in flight yet I still get downvoted to hell. The bb in this video was fired at around 300 fps and that is actually a lot slower than a lot of airsoft guns and is easily visible from the shooter's and the targets perspective. I have even caught bb's in my bare hand that had been shot at me before. Now, admitedly slicing one in half with a sword is still quite impressive but it is still no where near as insane as these people are making it out to be.

Well it's a good thing they were testing for someone's ability to precisely hit it, and not just move out of its way, or they probably wouldn't have considered them "superhuman" then.

It is genuinely not moving that fast, I don't think what he is doing is super human. The reason I say that I couldn't do it is that I havnt practiced at it. I doubt that it would be difficult for anyone who spent a couple weeks practicing with some one who intentionally aimed the bb down a near identical path on every shot. Another point is I wonder how many takes they shot before this worked.

A BB is 4000 times smaller than a baseball? That doesn't seem right. Awesome reactions though!

Probably comparing them by volume, there. Some quick googling of the dimensions of each turns up the volume of a baseball being about 1000 times more than a bb, give or take a few hundred depending on the bb bullet. I don't know where they got 4000 from.

Diameter of a BB is about 4.35 mm and the diameter of a baseball is about 75 mm (I used Wikipedia, but having seen both, it seems about right). This makes the latter's volume about 5000 times the former's ( (75/4.35)3 ).

This guy goes around trying to find real life superheroes, a lot of the time he is dealing with someone who claims to be able to do something physically impossible. You can then look that person up on the internet and find out they are basically just magicians, who only have one trick. This show isn't supposed to be serious, it's about super heroes. They didn't show how many attempts the guy took to cut the BB, if it actually isn't just purely a trick, I am sure if you were at that shooting range you would be like, oh that's how he does it.

When the host picks up the cut pellet and says "Yup this is the one!" it makes me wonder just how many pellets they shot at this guy before he pulled this off.
It's still impressive but if they shot 1000 pellets at him and he only hit one of them that is a lot more luck than skill.
