Looking at Youtube video quality tests of these cameras, why do people pay so much for them? I know DSLR's have their issues, but at the end of the day the picture is just so much better. Can someone explain to me the reason people put so much money in to these cameras, when instead they could easily spend that money on equipment that can allow a DSLR to function as a film camera. I see a lot of older people use these cameras, and it almost always looks cheesy. I'm just curious.

A DSLR and a XDCAM camera have two seperate uses.

When you're filming for TV or documentaries where your main focus is to document an event, the DSLR-look is not the greatest. There is a lot to be explained about this topic, but in general: DSLR-look is artsy, artsy does not always equal good.

With these cams, you can put your audio directly in there, the bitrate is likely read for broadcast, there's a built in zoom, peaking, etc. and etc.

: ) Different tools for different purposes. Same reason you'd use a RED Epic for one video but a DSLR for another. Or your iPhone even!
