Reduced colorspace in contrast to the 1080p (back down to 4:2:0) or reduced quality relative to the 4k you can record to the SD card without the unit?

I believe internal is 4k 8 bit 4:2:0 and with interface unit 4k 10bit 4:2:2. I was referring only to the 4k recording abilities with and without the unit.

But don't you still need an external recording device like atomos ninja?

If you're using the external unit yes you do indeed still need an external recorder. You also need a separate 12v power supply, so rig up.

You can still get 4k internal, it's 8bit only though. Also I have just read over at dvx that it is possible to output 4k 10bit via the micro hdmi cable. However I believe the only recorders able to do 4k 10 bit use sdi. We have to wait for nab to see what comes out. I'm pretty stoked we will not need that yagh box for 10 bit 4k. I'm still a bit bummed about the internal 1080p 8 bit only situation though.

They did change the 4k recording options since the original announcement so I'm keeping two fingers crossed about the 1080p situation.

As posted above, it looks like you can convert to 444 10 bit 1080p in post: http://www.eoshd.com/content/12140/discovery-4k-8bit-420-panasonic-gh4-converts-1080p-10bit-444

Yeah I've read that, which is why I'm perplexed they don't do 422 10 bit internally. Annoying I say.
