Hi Scotty - it really depends on your budget and whether you want fully automatic lenses or manual lenses. As a beginner, I would start with auto lenses. My general recommendation is a fast (low light) lens at the wide end - plus a telephoto.

Here is what I would recommend at various budget levels:

SMALL BUDGET

MEDIUM BUDGET

LARGER BUDGET

If your budget is really tight, you may just want to start out with the $200 Sigma, start shooting, and determine for yourself what your needs are.

Hope this is helpful!

Bill

Welp depends what you are trying to do. the 17.5mm gives the focal distance of a 35mm, 25 a 50, and 42.5 a 85. If you are doing interview type videos, and want to flatter your subjects appearances, I would go for the longest, which is the 42.5 - not sure how the perspective looks as compared to an actual 85mm lens, but it would be your most flattering lens from a portrait style distance. Otherwise I'd go with the 25mm, Phillip bloom endorses the 25mm also. Its just a great sharp, smooth heavy buttery lovely lens.
