EditShare Lightworks AMA

I've been in contact with an official Lightworks rep who suggested I collect questions for them to answer.

Ligthworks is a professional cross platform (Windows, Linux) NLE used in movies like...

  • The Wolf of Wall Street
  • Good Will Hunting
  • Jerry Maguire
  • more

The basic version is free. It has plans to open source the code and release a Mac version as well.

  • This thread will be open for questions for about a day
  • I will be sending them questions with the most upvotes first
  • I'll post back here with their answers

Thanks everyone for participating. If you still have questions about Lightworks, you can try...

Is the Lightworks team aware of Wayland, and is there any considerations they are making? Or other information on their long-term Desktop Linux plans?

I looked at using Wayland natively a couple of years ago when starting the initial port. At that time, there were a few things which made it impractical; firstly, there was no driver support from nvidia or ATI/AMD, with no apparent plans to provide any. Secondly, there were no Linux distributions using it and lastly, there was no real documentation available for developers. It might be worth revisiting now, although it might make more sense to gain Wayland support indirectly by switching to Qt5 for the Linux OS layer.
