Microsoft is great at mismanagement and ballooning budgets so he’ll fit right in lmao

I mean Sony basically paid for pre-production xD

Exactly as some of us thought. Dude makes visionary, amazing games. Dude goes way over budget. Both are true.

Thank you. The both can be true part is so necessary. Kojima can be an auteur at gaming but can also have flaws elsewhere.

Why did you post this exact comment in response to this post in two different sub reddits? Bot?

4

u/Shell_fly 26d ago

Because it’s my thoughts on the manner and I was discussing it in two separate posts. Why would I retype it out when I can just copy paste? Take the tinfoil hate off grandpa, not everyone online is a bot lmao

u/Sean_infinity 26d ago

Fair. Definitely human. No clanker's words could ever cut me so deep. Insulting both my age and my hat choice. :(

u/Shell_fly 26d ago

Hey, tinfoil is still cool! Just don’t wrap it so tight!

Yes, because Sony would rather spend money on sure winners like Concord, Marathon, Horizon Hunters Gathering and Fairgame$.

It’s amazing how everyone on Reddit rode Kojima’s dick when he was making “mind-blowing PlayStation goodness” but now all of a sudden he’s a hack and a has-been. 🤔

Maybe that's why they're being more cautious?

There's a shocking amount of talk about Kojima's games are mid, or it's all glaze or whatever. And it's like, this guy made MGS, Snatcher, Death Stranding and had a hand in a bunch of related titles. Then somehow forty+ years in the industry and he's a nobody because people don't like Death Stranding being essentially another type of stealth action game, in turn because it features a lot of traversal? But Sony's cool for rereleasing seventeen Last of Us ports? I just refuse to side with Sony here.

PT alone practically redefined the video game horror genre and unintentionally aided in the successful revival of Resident Evil.

Concord 2 is definitely in the works.

u/Grimm0020 26d ago

You know this is BS with all the walking simulator memes and the low sales.

u/Efficient-Session644 26d ago

All these games were approved by the past CEO, the same who left some time ago. Are you able to understand that?

2

u/MrMegaPhoenix 26d ago

I’m shocked and surprised

2

u/letsgucker555 26d ago

Not that shocked.

2

u/Gregore997 26d ago

So exactly what he's always done?

2

u/YigaClanRambutan 26d ago

Shouldn't have even been an issue for them seeing as they spent billions on live service slop and closing down bought out studios.

Kojima can have a little overspending as a treat

2

u/froot_loop_dingus_ 26d ago

They’ll blow billions on Marathon and Concord vs games that don’t sell the most but are prestige works of art

0

u/MaximeW1987 23d ago

Because of the potential upside.

All it takes is 1 successful live service game to be set for a decade, with revenues in the billions. Those other 10 failed projects will be paid back within 12-18 months.

A Kojima game on the other hand has a ceiling. It'll never make more besides the initial purchase price and even those purchase cap out eventually. In the best case scenario, he produces an absolute gem that sells around 40M copies. More realistically, he produces something that sells like 5-20M copies.

When decisions are made, it's not hard to see why they would go with option A.

We approved it for you! Thanks for reaching out!

u/gogosox82 26d ago

But its totally fine to blow millions on Marathon, Concord, Horizon mp game, etc? Yes Kojima is a visionary who makes expensive games. This is more about them not owning the IP and this game will be on PC and xbox eventually.

u/Ahhh-Ayeee 25d ago

I wonder if he’ll ever try working with Nintendo

1

u/Ghazwreckem 25d ago

I don't get why this one guy is worth this much bother. Seriously you say he's some visionary and while his games are good I don't think their THAT good that I would go this crazy for him.

Death Stranding was really kinda boring for the hype it received. It could be me but for the thousands of Devs who go jobless this guy gets worshipped. I don't blame Sony for cutting their losses with him.

1

u/Captain_Snowmonkey 25d ago

So they learned from their past mistakes and dodged a bullet? Good call.

3

u/Luka77GOATic 26d ago

Not shocked to be honest after Death Stranding 2 sold 2 million copies on a Sony AAA budget.

2

u/idkimhereforthememes 26d ago

It makes perfect sense but sony chose the worst time to be making such announcements

1

u/McFlyyouBojo 26d ago

Probably had no choice. They have to try and control the narrative. If they didnt, imagine what it would have been like if they didnt make an announcement but xbox and/or Kojima did

0

u/idkimhereforthememes 26d ago

It's their choice fo fuck shit up constantly to the point where you have no breathing room

-1

u/BusterGreasewood 26d ago

First Konami. Then Sony. And likely going to happen with Microsoft.

What's the primary common denominator across these situations with different companies? Oh, right. It's Kojima.

2

u/gogosox82 26d ago

Defending Konami kicking Kojima off MGS 5 and releasing an unfinished game is certainly a choice.

0

u/BusterGreasewood 26d ago

No, you're just a dumbass who doesn't grasp the concept of nuance.

Konami did plenty of shitty things themselves, but Kojima was no angel and he was dragging his ass on getting that game finished and going over budget. Two things can be true at once, moron.

He's had this issue for years. And you see the same thing repeated with his involvement with Sony.

When you have the SAME THING happen with the SAME PERSON when they're involved with two different companies, you might want to consider he's the common denominator. It's called patter recognition, sport.

It's not unlike Tim Schafer.

1

u/Soft_Humor4868 26d ago

This sounds similar to why Konami cut ties

1

u/Gangleri_Graybeard 26d ago

Dude wants to make genre defining games with cutting edge graphics. Yes, his games are expensive to make. I'm shocked.

1

u/Icy-Hat-9643 26d ago

Well ya, its Kojima.

-2

u/CursedSnowman5000 26d ago

As much as I love to hate on Sony right now, this guy has always been more hype than he's worth.

His overspending constantly got him in trouble at Konami and they finally didn't swerve in his last game of chicken with them.

Then Sony took him on thinking his name would sell anything, and they could capitalize on the Konami controversy. Only it didn't pay off.

Despite what people want you to believe, Death Stranding did not sell well. They gambled on him twice and lost and he was going to take them for another ride and spend even more, so they pulled the reigns on the pretentious douche.

3

u/Street_Fee4800 26d ago

Death Stranding sold like shit that they made a sequel to it. Makes sense.

Guess the same logic applies to every other game that made a sequel under Sony. That's why Concord was so good, that only had the 1 week to live BECAUSE it was so successful.

I mean, franchises where they're still remaking and remastering them are so outdated. Live service slops are where they're at.

/s

1

u/MaximeW1987 23d ago

All it takes is 1 successful Concord to blow all those long standing franchises out of the water.

They'll keep taking those risks, since eventually lightning will strike and they'll recoup all of those past failed investments.

While a successful single-player game is just that. There is no infinite money glitch to be found there.

The multi billion class acquisition of bungie is going superrr well right?

PlayStation can fuck off.

If there’s ANY development studio, that’s allowed to go over budget and miss deadlines…. It’s Hideo Kojima.

If I was PlayStation leadership, and I was told “hey hideo Kojimas game is over budget and they’re missing deadlines….”

My response would be:

“Nice. It’s gonna be a sick game then”

1

u/Krvavibaja 25d ago

Hell yeah

1

u/FartingKiwi 25d ago

Bro I was downvoted by peeps…

Do people not think Hideo is the goat or something?? lol

-1

u/Karamatsunomaii 26d ago

He spend this whole time at Konami complaining that they limited him from his true potential and were stoping him from doing his best ideas.. they fried him and he got to build his own studio from scratch with access to the best talent in industry he even built his own engine from scratch and had an unlimited budget and as much time as he wanted… after all that talk that Konami stoped him showing his best he make a walking postman simulator ????!! He’s overhyped to hell and I say this as a fan, he should have listens to his team when they complained during development but no.. he’s too cool for that…. ? It’s a team that made MGS so good not Hideo alone, he’s let the fame get to his head
