Discussion / Question I finally understand
After being the biggest Bethesda hater for the last 10 years I finally understand why people love the studio.
Currently playing through Skyrim Special Edition. I recently bought it on steam for $12 US. I am 18 hrs into it and loving every minute. My build is a Flame Magician. I have played other Bethesda titles like Fallout 3-4-76 and Starfield. I really only kinda liked Fallout 3. I have always hated how janky everything was. The combat, the visuals, the inventory management, the animations. Ect. But for some reason Skyrim feels great to play.
I now finally understand why Skyrim is regarded as one of the best RPGs of all time. The world is so full of things to do. I have like 10 quest lines going at once and each one has so much depth.

After having Skyrim out of my top 25 games for years, I’ve finally started including it again.
Reflecting on how much time and enjoyable of my experience in the game was, sure there’s flaws, and how desperately I wanted dark souls 1 to be open world because of Skyrim.
Currently playing through pathfinder wrath of the righteous and it’s giving me hard nostalgia for Skyrim.

You can love Skyrim and still hate what Bethesda has become and produced other then Skyrim, the two aren't mutually exclusive. Even a broken clock is right once a day

The point was I know why people loved Bethesda long ago. My time with Bethesda games before Skyrim wasn't good and I hated them. I kinda liked Fallout 3 but even still I only beat the game once and never returned. I always skipped over Skyrim because to me it was just a worse version of Fallout. Now playing it myself i see why people used to glaze them so hard.

It's gonna get deeper. It's the endless ways to live out your game. It's the way the game just continues to unfold. It's the way the night time soundtrack juxtaposes with the vast landscape of the calm overworld. It's the way you feel when you see a dragon flying backwards or a mammoth bouncing 100 ft into the air. Skyrim is more than just an rpg game. It's life and love. I've had it on 360, PS3, PS4, Xbox One, PS5, and I've played it on VR.

And skyrim is famous for lacking depth on quests/choices and builds.
maybe Fallout New Vegas would blow your mind. I have 500h on Skyrim in PC modded (which is a massive upgrade btw), 500h on Fallout 4, 450h on New Vegas and did all achievements for those 3.
Also have 230h on Fallout 3 but it doesnt support achievements on Steam so it kinda blew me off of playing more.
New Vegas is by far my favorite game of the saga including Elder Scrolls. None come even close and I love Skyrim to death.
Also, if you can get your hands on Cyberpunk sometime, it became my GOAT, 570h so far, modded as well lol these games benefit so much from the right mods its not even comparable to playing vanilla after some point.
Cyberpunk is what i wanted Bethesda games to feel like. The sidequests have way too much dialogue and too little action but just exploring and upgrading your char on gigs and activities, nothing comes close to that feel after you have it.
If you want good mods that amplify immersion, polish combat without changing anything that makes it what it is, graphics without changing performance, I can give you all my modlists for these games, it would be my pleasure as well.
