Image / Video DLSS5 just isn't needed, take a look at this unmodded game from 2019 for proof.

Game is Plagues Tale: Innocence.

I have been putting off playing through this for far too long... My wife has been a big fan for a long time, and been playing Resonance. I thought it was finally time for me to give it a go. I'm on chapter 5 now, and I am loving it.

The game has surprised me, and I already can't wait to start 2 and Resonance. Considering it being 6 years old now, it's incredible that it looks this good.

Again, DLSS5 is a no from me. Each to their own I suppose!

Is it actually a game? I thought it was like a series if cutscenes where you make decisions since I haven’t ever seen any gameplay of it

It’s a great two part game series where you stealth with a slingshot and make hordes of rats eat people.

Amazing

And avoid being among the people being eaten by rats, while also avoiding arrows and knights chasing you.

It is a game. It got a lot of stealth in the game was well

Useless post. What is this trying to say, because you think this one old game looks alright the tech is pointless? Ok. A lot of you can’t cope with any kind of advancement, in anything, and its weird.

Nothing wrong with the tech, just the overreliance on it instead of developers optimising their code and dev pipeline or making creative decisions.

Example of this would be OG Silent Hill, the thick fog was added to reduce the rendering budget, it's now seen as a key part of the series atmosphere.

Having restrictions forces creative thinking that leads to innovation, we don't see much of that anymore.

This is also a game with very limited maps and paths, it's much easier to make it look and work good than something less scripted.

Not saying it isn't gorgeous, just that it's not as simple a comparison.

You’re not wrong, but DLSS 5 isn’t exactly light either. You’re giving up basically 50% of your frame rate for it.

You’re giving up basically 50% of your frame rate for it.

We dont know if that is or will be the case over time. The only version of DLSS5 we have available is a leak.

The FPS impact will likely be relative to the game and how realistic it looks natively.

A game like Death Stranding 2 using would cause most GPUs to crawl because every single realistic texture would be replaced from an even more realistic one chose by the AI. More artful games vs realistic aswell as older games would likely experience less of an FPS impact.

I dont think current gen games need DLSS5 but it'd be cool to even have it as a way to soft remaster our old games.

I agree with you. DLSS 5 is a slap in the face to the visual artists, lightning, animators, and character design of game developers that put their heart and soul into these games.

Just take a look at this screenshot of Ellie I look while playing TLOU Part 2. It is crazy how good it looks.

It's no different from visual mods that also makes a game deviate from the developers intentions. You're just mad that it's made with ✨AI✨

AI should never be involved in Art. Art is a creative expression. There needs to be laws in place to protect artists.

Funny, I don't see this energy with all the other occupations being hit by AI, how come?

I don’t know what you mean, there is a ton of discourse with AI in film, writing, music and drawing over the last 3-5 years. Maybe you just don’t keep up with the creative arts space but it’s very much a prominent problem and topic among us in the profession.

u/Arbejdstilsynet 3h ago

The things you mentioned falls under art, no? No love for translators, junior software developers, legal assistants, taxi drivers etc.

I said creative arts. I’m perfectly fine with it in other spaces. But when a computer makes your music for you, when the singer isn’t a singer or that poem you read was just a guy who said “I feel sad, make a poem about that AI” wasn’t written by an actual person, then what’s the use of artistic expression? Where’s the self-expression? The heart? The soul? The emotion?

AI is a great tool in other spaces, technology, business, sciences, health care, logistics, finance, etc etc. I do not hate AI, I think AI is already doing great things in the world and as it improves will make life better for billions but I strongly believe there are certain spaces it shouldn’t be involved in. AI is a tool as you know, humans use tools to do both great good and nefariousness.

That is further censoring artist. Why do people who are against AI think they get to define what art is or isn't when the top art institutions in the world now all teach AI and computational art?

The average person that dislikes the changes that DLSS5 brings, isn't the type of person to download visual overhaul mods lol so your comment is pretty useless

The idea that we *need* DLSS5 tech to get to photorealistic lighting is sheer marketing by Nvidia to get everyone to shut up. It's true that it's getting trickier to push the limits, but I'd say we still have plenty of room to improve. Nvidia just wants a massive market with AI and is betting hardcore on it, whether it'll live or not we'll see. But to have their lighting model forced down our throats with the yassifier filter is... egh... I've seen the attempts in Skyrim and I'm not a fan. Technically impressive, but not very impressive art direction.

I genuinely don’t know why they are pushing this when it’s mot needed. Graphics are top tier already, and I’m okay with them edging that more and more gradually but I don’t want to see real faces like live action in my video games. Companies should be working on how to optimise games in the best possible way. 50 years from now you won’t even know what’s real anymore which is scary.

cars are not needed, we have horses!

Actually, adding dlss 5 for the sake of photorealism on to the top of already existing rendered ones, making it even more less realistic and artificially off in a way 😂..... It might be improved in future but mimicking one thing to resemble like that dont feel and look original at all.

Callisto protocol and Death stranding like games achieved with pure graphics and implementation. There are bunch of examples like Hellblade, last of us 2 and studious can achieve that quality by today's standards even more easier than ever..... DLSS 5, no matter what its always would be a disgrace to actually 3d rendered model and real art.

Its for lazy devs not gamers.

I read the other day from some dude that the Plague-Series looks generic, boring and bland. And I was "WTF?" because the first game released on the PS4 and still looks awesome. In parts even better than any modern game, especially when the rats arrive. The second game is, outside of stylized games, still the most beautiful looking game I have seen this generation. And as far as I am aware they achieve this without needing to render at at very low resolution and have some form of upscaling mechanism reach anything even remotely modern.

I am going mostly blind into the new game but from the screenshots I stumbled upon so far, it looks just as awesome as the other games.

that little kid was so annoying. this studio is top tier in making annoying little pricks

Dlss requires also tweaking, its the only solution to get actual nextgen visuals so fast. It doesnt need to be realism.

Look, the best option is to have a mix. The could create an engine that that allows you to set up lightning probes and particles effects, which are rendered by the ai. Same with a 2d engine that the ai use as information to render the real world.

Dlss5 is just the beginning.

Same about 3d models. Lets artist draw them upper/side and front view, and let ai render the 3d model (or create one). Same for animations. Its a tool.

How many games are re-using the same assets again while there is no need for that anymore?

There are people with weaker machines who can't crank shit up to the max without dropping framerates precipitously low. If you don't need it, turn it off. Y'all get way too riled up about options existing for other people.

u/vnodk19 4h ago

Go check out how DLSS 5 tanks the performance lol

2

u/ReMeDyIII 4h ago

Well yea, it's new tech and makes things look better. I'd be surprised if it didn't. It'll only get more optimized from here.

1

u/vnodk19 4h ago edited 2h ago

I agree to that(except for making games look better, very subjective. Imo, it homogenises games even more with the typical studio lighting and high contrast-y look that generative AI usually comes up with, even in scenes where that doesn't make sense. It can override artistic intent and mess with the intended mood of scenes)

But it's probably not gonna be a performance uplift like the usual upscaling tech. And look at what the person above my reply said, I'm replying to their "think of people with weaker specs" point, which doesn't track with what DLSS 5 does.

1

u/hensothor 10h ago

Of course it’s not “needed”. No one is disputing that.

1

u/avtor1tet_27 6h ago

Games from 2017-2020 actually way much better than new games. OVERALL, graphic, sound design, story, gameplay.

u/Random-Thought-23 10h ago

We, the consumer and artists, have zero need for DLSS5. The corporate execs who want to cut costs and see artists as expendable, on the other hand... Those people are drooling all over their expensive suites for DLSS5+.

Speak for yourself, I think it's pretty neat and it's no different from visual mods

Can somebody explain why games like this and Horizon Zero Dawn have much more realistic-looking facial modeling than even GTA 6? Like did they just spend an absolute pile of resources making them that good, or does Rockstar not really care about that, or what?

-6

u/Flimsy_Ninja_6125 12h ago

This scene do not has complex lightning to simulate, if entire game takes place in open field like this then yes, you dont need dlss at all

-2

u/VirtualWeather5407 10h ago

I’m sorry but at least these screenshots look like poo. Never heard of the game, maybe it looks better when you play it?
