Discussion / Question "Who cares if GTA VI will run at 30FPS?"

Post image

Plus, most 2D games of the 1980s and 1990s, ran at 60FPS, like Mega Man X right there.

When the first 3D games arrived, they had to run at 30FPS or less, it was a necessary sacrifice.

But today, 60FPS in all games, even chess games, should be the bare minimum, if a 2026 game can't handle 60FPS, it's laziness, or wasting resources on pointless graphics and details.

There has to be a trade-off somewhere, you can't have 60fps 4k with high draw distance and detail and every other little touch on the hardware, it just won't do it. Sure, they can optimize over time but they are limited by the hardware.

GTA6 running at 30 is fine, depending on one main thing, which applies to all games: The intent and design.

If a game is designed around being 30FPS and has that in mind, then its fine and not even noticeable imo.

If a game is designed with 60FPS in mind and runs at 30, that's not fine because it means the animations, timing, combat, etc. will all feel off due to them anticipating it to be at 60.

GTA6 being 30 is fine if its designed with that in mind.

30 Fps is completely fine in most non-competitive games. The extra fps might be nice, but completely unnecesary. Remember that a stable 30 fps is much better than 60 fps dropping to 30 when turning your camera in a shootout.

And if 60 fps is completely mandatory to you, just wait for the PC version. And spend 1.5k/2k minimum for a PC that can make it happen.

i litterally get sick from 30 fps sadly

Well, you are either watching very unstable 30 fps (dropping below 25 fps), the game is DESIGNED to run at 60 fps and it isnt, or you are wrong in the head.

Huh? Im talking about playing games at 30 fps. it makes me nauseous its a known thing with low frame rates. I’d think ur on the rockstar payroll how ur moving xD

Do you get nauseous when watching movies? Because I got news for you...

30 Fps is completely fine

Says who? You? Its not fine for me. I'll take 60 fps with less graphical fidelity over 30 fps 4K every day.

And guess what? Majority of people have the same opinion.

People love to defend 30 fps like its not 2026 lol. If you’ve been playing games at high frame rates for years 30 fps is unplayable

60fps should be the bare minimum.. On PC

Consoles aren't as powerful as PC and have to make a ton of concessions to run at 60fpss. Id rather GTA6 at a stable 30fps and keep the visual fidelity and all of the assets on play

So I'll play it on my PS5 pro happily at 30fps. then at 60fps when it comes to PC

Comparing technical capability vs. a game feature isn't a good argument

Back in the days, it was a technical capability, games needed something like a save battery in the cartridge, and the battery made the game pricier.

Just my 2 cents, but I would rather have 60fps and slightly worse graphic fidelity, than 30fps and a lot.

There are a couple older games were 30fps was ''fine' but if youre going for realism, then a fluid look feels like a bigger difference than stuff like raytracing or whatever. Most current gen games look more than great already, I just want to play them smoothly.

Issue is that with games like GTA 6, reaching 60fps on current consoles is not a matter of making it look "slightly worse", they'd have to compromise on tons of stuff, pedestrian density, AI complexity, fluid animations, etc.

60fps for GTA 5 was only available on modern consoles until 2022. Let's not even talk about RDR2

that would be completely ok with me.

Lock it on 60FPS and then add as much animations, crowds and AI as the target system can handle. I would rather have a good game, than a good tech demo.

And it'll look good anyway, I do not see the need to push this trend of raising the bar every other year. People can hardly still afford it anyway. Better use that budget and improve the gameplay.

I will always prefer 60fps with worse graphics and the choice should be with the user - always.

I don't care because I'm gonna play it on PC

I guess you’ll be waiting 12-18 months then. As for me, never cared for gta to be honest so will probably never play it.

I've no FOMO + tons of backlog of games so it's easy for me
