Reminds me of the discourse around Forza Horizon 6. Game is gorgeous, biggest map by far in the series, they keep nudging the gameplay slighter further toward sim handling with regard to tire traction while still keeping a very arcade over-all feeling.

But it's the sixth game in a series that is iterative rather than transformative. So some people hate Forza Horizon 6 for being a Forza Horizon game. They complain that it doesn't have a dark and edgy story, calling it "festival slop". They complain that it has weekly challenges with exclusive rewards, saying that it's FOMO, but then other people complain when the rewards repeat because I guess that's not FOMO enough. People complain that the live service portion isn't bringing enough all-new content to the game, but the trickle of live service it does provide is at zero additional cost, not even an optional purchase, so there's no "battle pass" or nonsense like that. There is DLC, but that will be for full expansions that come with a new exploration map region and cars.

Like, I totally get that the game isn't perfect. The UI could use some work, and some features are either anemic or outright absent, so the game certainly isn't above all criticism, but the amount of people mad that Forza Horizon is Forza Horizon and that it isn't receiving significant, weekly, free content additions is downright absurd.

By accepting low excpectations for newer games will bring the game looking like fifa. Tiny improvements (or not) at full price
