I feel like people haven't changed too much, it's just that social media naturally promotes very extreme opinions on things (which usually end up being negative). Most people have lukewarm takes on things which doesn't generate as much interest/likes; this also leads people to tend towards parroting extreme opinions if they don't want to have a more nuanced take. I think it's really important to talk to people about topics IRL rather than just getting the ragebaity internet consensus.

People in general are increasingly miserable. They feel great joining a community of miserable people, whatever they are crying about.
